aiti celebrated both the New Year, 2016, and it’s proclamation of Independence on January 1st 2016. This marks the 212th Year of Independence for Haiti. President Michel Martelly delivered his speech in Gonaives before a packed crowd. This will mark his last speech as President of the Republic. Haiti is scheduled to go to the polls in 2016 to democratically elect it’s new President. President Martelly delivered his presidential message to all Haitians across the world. He extended best wishes for a Happy New Year, but especially invited them to immerse themselves in the memory of January 1, 1804. He noted, “this important date of our illustrious past when our Fathers devoted their final victory over slavery and created to give us as an inheritance, a sovereign State”. He continued “I’m pleased to commemorate this January 1 of 212 years ago because that day, the union among the hearts and minds were wearing our Nation to the baptismal font”. We Congratulate Haiti on it’s 212th celebration of Independence.
