SHAPING THE FUTURE IN MANUFACTURING

FROM THE ARTS TO CUTTINGEDGE RESEARCH

Jake Pirkkanen, an A R T and Video Tech alumnus, credits PAHCC for giving him the confidence and academic foundation to succeed in the "real" world.

Fabrication completer, has already secured a bright future in manufacturing

After wrapping up a summer internship with Husky Technologies in Milton, they offered James a full-time position working with 1816 roughing machines. He describes his role, saying, "I set up large steel plates onto tombstones (a vertical work holding device) and operate the mill to make a part They are called 1816s because the max working area is 1800 mm by 1600 mm "

With his extensive manufacturing experience gained from PAHCC, James is ready to tackle a full range of responsibilities, including setting up machines, changing tools, and ensuring the machines operate smoothly

Jake reflected on his time at the career center: "Taking Video Tech and A.R.T. largely contributed to my graduating from high school with the academic and self-confidence I needed. The faculty showed me what it meant to be believed in as a student and, in turn, believe in myself. I wouldn't have pursued the academic and professional path I have without my time at PAHCC "

After high school, Jake pivoted from the arts to pursue his Ph D in Biomolecular Sciences He spent several years conducting cutting-edge research in a deep underground research laboratory in Northern Ontario, Canada

Now, Jake is back in Middlebury, serving as the Associate Director for Research Compliance at Middlebury College His journey showcases the impact of the foundation he built at PAHCC and how it has propelled him through a diverse and successful career.

CRAFTING SUCCESS IN THE CULINARY SCENE

Skylee Devoid, a 2024 completer from PAHCC's Culinary Arts program, is quickly making a name for herself in the local food scene

She secured a position at Shiretown Marketplace in Middlebury after having a work-based learning co-op there last year. She has enthusiastically embraced her new position, where her culinary skills shine through as she crafts delectable dishes for the community Shiretown is known for using fresh, locally sourced ingredients to prepare their popular breakfast and lunch offerings, as well as Vermont's beloved Creemees

Skylee's seamless transition from student to professional is a testament to her talents. It highlights her hands-on training at PAHCC, which gave her the confidence and skills to succeed in the kitchen right after graduation If you're in Middlebury, make sure to stop by Shiretown!

BUILDING A STRONG FOUNDATION FOR THE FUTURE

Declan Anderson, a recent Construction Technology completer, has made impressive strides in the construction field. While at PAHCC, he and three classmates built a tiny house from the ground up. In an article in Seven Days, Declan describes the experience: "The project really simulates what it's like to be on an actual jobsite We did all the framing, the insulation, everything "

Declan goes on to attribute feeling well-prepared for college thanks to the hands-on experience he gained at PAHCC, noting, "We learned every single aspect of construction, so I have a wide bank of knowledge for all kinds of projects It was beyond valuable "

Since graduating high school, Declan has been attending Vermont State University for construction management while working part-time with Silver Maple Construction in New Haven.
