This degree is a practically based course focusing on current and future developments in the sector.
The degree in Sport, PE and Health values and challenges you within a supportive learning environment and provides opportunities to access, understand and apply research in the enhancement of innovative practice and to understand the future role of physical educators. You will have access to a research-informed contemporary curriculum that recognises the contribution sport plays within physical education in the development of lifelong health and wellbeing through activity.
Delivered and managed by academics with a wealth of research, innovation and applied experience. It has been designed in an inspiring and progressive way, in which the curriculum becomes more focused and specialised across the three years of study.

Dance Pathway
The specialist Dance pathway within the BSc (Hons) Sport, Physical Education and Health degree focuses on the applied place of Dance as a creative art and physical activity. The focus is on creative practice, teaching and performance in the areas of education, health and wellbeing and community dance.
The design of the pathway will allow you to develop your knowledge, understanding and skilful practices in Dance alongside in depth academic and practical knowledge of physical education and youth sport. Our excellent dance links within Industry provide opportunities for you to engage in work-based learning and placement experiences over the three years that will support the development of future creative and innovative practitioners.
Typical modules
Many of our modules are lined to Open Campus initiative where you will apply your knowledge and put your understanding of contemporary issues in into practice. You will undertake placements in years two and three within an educational setting to build on your pedagogical skills and further develop your employability skills. Modules include:
• Physical Education, Sports Coaching and Pedagogy
• Sociology of Sport and Physical Cultures
• Multidisciplinary Approaches to Sport and Health
• Ethical Issues in Sport
Your future
• Recent graduates are now working as PE teachers (secondary), primary school teachers, and teaching assistants. Past graduates have also followed careers in further and higher education, sport clubs, sport science, leisure industry, and local authority/community sport development.
• Other students have continued onto further study at Master’s and doctoral level or to undertake a Postgraduate Certificate in Education.
