Banking & Finance
Combining academic rigour, specialist knowledge and practical financial skills.
You will study the key concepts of banking and finance in a practical and theoretical context and the course will provide you with an understanding of the wider impact and importance of the banking sector on the world economy.
The course will equip you with the tools and analytical capabilities to identify and resolve complex problems in a dynamic and strategic way. In addition, it will provide you with highly transferable skills, as well as a deep knowledge of a range of financial software.
The teaching will involve lecturers, workshops and seminars, which will have both academic knowledge and practical experience. The practical experience will include the use of financial software, such as Refinitiv, which will enable you to execute critical investing, trading and risk decisions with confidence in readiness for the workplace after graduation.
In addition, real world experience is obtained as part of your study by compulsory work experience, as well as an optional sandwich year placement and industrial internships.

In the first year you will gain an insight into how financial institutions fit into the world economy, along with key quantitative methods techniques needed for a career in this industry. The second year will involve expanding your knowledge by studying the impact of different types of risk on both companies and countries. In your final year you will enhance your understanding of remaining informed on contemporary issues in the wider business context by undertaking independent research. Typical modules might include:
