Skid Row is a neighborhood in Los Angeles that lacks in community, art and cultural spaces. Research has shown that art can be used as therapy as it provides a creative outlet for self-expression, self-discovery, and self-empowerment. At the same time, mental health issues are common among residents of Skid Row and depression and anxiety are more prevalent than ever. Providing a public, social space for people to create art and express themselves could alleviate some of the issues that the residents of Skid row are facing.
