Samuel Paley Hall was built in 1966 at 12th & Berks Streets and served as Temple University’s library for 53 years. When the Charles Library opened in 2019, Paley Hall was used for classrooms and office spaces. During the 2021-2022 academic year, students could receive COVID-19 tests in the building.

Park Mall

In the heart of campus, what is now referred to as Liacouras Walk was once the Park Mall. Located between Norris Street and Montgomery Avenue, 18001830 North Park Mall once contained a line of row homes. Temple University purchased the homes and converted them into space for organizations, offices, and dormitories, beginning in 1925.

The College of Liberal Arts

Temple University opened their College of Liberal Arts in Anderson and Gladfelter Halls in 1973. Gladfelter Hall was home to the Social Sciences and Anderson Hall acted as the Humanities building.

In the fall of 2021, Temple approved the renaming of Anderson Hall to Mazur Hall after receiving a five million dollar donation from Temple alumnus Leonard Mazur and his wife, Helena Mazur.

Broad and Cecil

From Columbia Avenue Station to the Cecil B. Moore/Temple University Station of SEPTA’s Broad Street Line.

The Cecil B. Moore station of SEPTA’s Broad Street Line lives where Broad Street meets Cecil B. Moore Avenue. The station opened on September 1, 1928.

In 1983, Temple University built the Columbia Avenue Station Plaza in collaboration with the city of Philadelphia.

In 1987, the city of Philadelphia named Columbia Avenue after Cecil B. Moore in honor of the late civil rights activist and Philadelphia native. The SEPTA station is now known as Cecil B. Moore/Temple University station, and is the main stop to get to and from Temple’s campus.
