CAPTRUST HAPPENINGS

GIVING BACK This spring, the CAPTRUST Community Foundation (CCF) announced its annual Charity of Choice and National and Small Grant recipients and broke a fundraising record with the help of the Dallas Magnolias.

Charity of Choice and National Grants Each year, the CCF selects a Charity of Choice and five organizations to receive gifts from its National Grant program. The chosen 501(c)(3) organizations’ core missions must align with the CCF’s mission to enrich the lives of children in communities we serve. The CCF collects applications from charitable organizations throughout the country, and each qualified applicant goes through a strenuous vetting process. This year, the CCF selected Note in the Pocket, a nonprofit organization empowering impoverished and homeless schoolchildren in Wake County, North Carolina, as its 2021 Charity of Choice. By clothing children with dignity and love, Note in the Pocket is an ally for young people who would otherwise be limited in their educational and social developments because they do not have appropriate clothes for school. Additionally, the CCF is pleased to announce this year’s National Grant recipients: Sleep in Heavenly Peace, an organization building and delivering beds to children who don't have beds to sleep in, as well as AMIkids Tampa and Durham Children's Initiative for the valuable services each provides for at-risk youth. Also among those honored with a National Grant were two nonprofits geared toward helping families, youth, and children experiencing homelessness—Families Together and Rainbow Village.

Earlier this year, CAPTRUST Clarkston teamed up with the United Way and Lighthouse of Oakland County to put together 45 early education learning kits for kids in need.

Small Grants

From January to May, the CCF distributed $282,500 in Small Grants. These included 10 Crisis Grants for organizations in Texas needing relief after February’s winter storm plunged large swaths of the state into freezing temperatures, overwhelming the state’s electricity infrastructure and causing power outages.

Battling Childhood Cancer

This spring, CAPTRUST’s John Pickett worked with the Dallas Magnolias to purchase and distribute more than 1,500 sub sandwiches in support of the 12th annual Jersey Mike’s Day of Giving campaign. The Help Wipe Out Kids’ Cancer (WOKC) campaign raised a record-breaking $745,250 in donations.
