Inclusion and Diversity
The mission statement of CAPTRUST’s Inclusion & Diversity Council is to foster an environment that promotes inclusion, a diverse workforce, and a strong sense of belonging.
The vision of these initiatives is to create a diverse, connected, and fully empowered workforce that celebrates and leverages our differences to drive value for clients, communities, and one another.
Each year, CAPTRUST expands these efforts through rich discussions, events, and even new employee resource groups to ensure everyone is included in the conversation.
ONE BRICK AT A TIME 14
CAPTRUST has several diversity efforts targeted at all employees, including four Employee Resource Groups (ERGs):
• BP Network: For racially/ethnically diverse employees and their allies
• Women Inspire, Support, Encourage (WISE) Network: For women and their allies
• PRIDE: For lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (or questioning), intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA) employees and their allies
• Living in Faith Together (LIFT): For those of any faith and those of no faith looking to come together and learn more
These groups have been important culture carriers for the firm, especially during times when most of the firm was working remotely. Events, networking opportunities, and fun activities brought together colleagues from across the country, many of whom never had the chance to meet in person.
New ERG: Honor
We also announced a new ERG for veterans, employees serving in the National Guard or National Reserves, military family members, and their allies. Honor is chaired by CAPTRUST Principal and Financial Advisor Daryl Deke. CAPTRUST Senior Director of Marketing Greg Middleton serves as the group’s executive sponsor.

Women’s Initiative
While having a diverse and inclusive workforce has always been a priority for the firm, CAPTRUST’s diversity efforts formally took shape in 2017 when our CEO, Fielding Miller, recognized the importance of lifting up women in the industry and increasing the number of women advisors at CAPTRUST. He charged the women of CAPTRUST and the entire company to focus on adding more diversity to our advisory force by increasing the number of women advisors. This initiative also included working to ensure every woman’s success at CAPTRUST.
Today, women advisors make up 27 percent of our total advisor workforce. This percentage is well above the industry standard.

COMMUNITY FOUNDATION
Since the CAPTRUST Community Foundation (CCF) launched in 2007, we have been dedicated to helping our community. We support nonprofits across the country that benefit the lives of children. We have donated millions of dollars to support nonprofits. CCF is a 501(c)(3) charity, and the majority of the money raised is donated by CAPTRUST employees, then matched by the company.
Did you know that every representative of CAPTRUST Community Foundation is a volunteer? We are grateful for the many colleagues who run CCF as a volunteer role, making sure that children’s lives are enriched across the country thanks to CAPTRUST.

VESTED
A CAPTRUST magazine
Launched in 2015 and produced exclusively for clients and friends twice annually, VESTED is CAPTRUST’s signature magazine. VESTED provides timely, relevant, and actionable ideas and recommendations to inform what’s next for our clients. From deep dives into the markets to a retiree’s newly discovered passion, VESTED offers something for every reader to connect with.
CAPTRUST has the experience and expertise to give our readers tips to help them achieve a more successful retirement. VESTED strives to break down stereotypes and present retirement as a period of fulfillment, new experiences, engagement, giving back, and something to aspire to.
About the Second Act
Our signature cover story, Second Act, portrays a person’s thinking, preparation, and successful transition, to reduce the fear factor about what’s behind the curtain of retirement.
ONE BRICK AT A TIME 46
Take a sneak peek at the VESTED team at work:
John Curry and Jamal Joseph Winter 2019 | New York City, NY
Greg Middleton and Travis Mills Winter 2018 | Hallowell, ME
Azul Photography and Angie Salinas Fall 2022 | San Antonio, TX
Stroke of Luck | Winter 2022
Sean Entin is this issue’s Second Act. Entin used his passion and entrepreneurial energy to build several businesses, but, at age 39, that came to a crashing halt. He suffered a massive stroke and, since then, has been fighting to rebuild his body and help other stroke survivors.
Other stories inside the issue:
• The surprising problem of spending too little in retirement;
• Current thinking on preventing and treating Alzheimer’s disease;
• Inflation and its insidious effects on our thinking and long-term financial plans; and
• Understanding your family’s heritage through food.
A Lawyer’s Big Leap | Summer 2022
This issue’s Second Act hero is Joe Dworetzky. After a 35-year career as an attorney in Philadelphia, a job he found both stimulating and challenging, he started over as a journalist and political cartoonist in a new city. His story of never letting go of his original passions—even decades later—should be a lesson for all of us.
More stories to explore:
• Life lessons learned by cancer survivors;
• What to do if you experience a late-life crisis;
• How past geopolitical events have impacted the financial markets;
• One family’s story of fighting to keep gospel music alive in Harlem; and
• Rock climbing as a surprisingly safe way to stay fit and socially connected.
Leading New Troops | Fall 2022
Major General Angie Salinas, U.S. Marine Corps (Retired), shares her Second Act story in this month’s issue. After nearly 40 years of service, General Salinas had her pick of Fortune 500 leadership opportunities. She chose to impact the next generation of leaders instead, taking a role as chief executive officer of the 21,000-strong Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas.
The issue also features topics including:
• Sharing your family’s narrative with future generations;
• Tapping into your retirement accounts when you retire;
• Finding the right level of risk for your investment strategy; and
• Baby boomers taking their shows on the road.
