THE BOY FROM HEAVEN

The Christmas Gospel told through the eyes of a child in Bethlehem

Ismael lives in Bethlehem, where his family runs an inn. Sometimes, his Dad has to turn guests away because every room is full. But one evening, when the city is filled to the brim with people and not a single bed is free, it is Ismael who opens the door when someone knocks. On the steps stands a man. Next to him is a donkey, and on the donkey sits a woman. Her belly is big and her face is red, she is about to give birth and it could happen at any moment. They are allowed to seek shelter in the family’s stable. And later that evening, while the Bethlehem star shines in the sky, a little boy is born in the stable. A boy from heaven. And Ismael is there to witness it all.

This picture book brings the Christmas Gospel to life with warmth, sincerity and wonder. A perfect read for families, schools, and anyone looking for a fresh retelling of the world's most known birth.

RUFFEN AND THE THREE MONSTERS

The beloved sea serpent returns for one final story.

For more than fifty years, Ruffen has been one of Norway’s most treasured children’s book characters, loved by generations for his gentle wisdom, bravery and heart. This final tale, completed by author Tor Åge Bringsværd only weeks before his passing, captures the essence of everything that has made Ruffen a classic.

Every night, Ruffen tells his children a bedtime story. Tonight, he shares how he learned to whistle – and it turns out to be a far more thrilling story than anyone expects. On his journey to help an injured finch reach her winter home, Ruffen discovers an island in turmoil. Three enormous brothers are frightening the birds and animals, leaving no safe place to live.

While others want to hide or fight, Ruffen chooses another way. He listens. He learns what the brothers are really afraid of and helps them find peace. By the end, harmony is restored, the brothers become protectors of the island, and even they learn to whistle.

A tender and timeless story about courage, empathy and the power of understanding, brought to life with Thore Hansen’s enchanting illustrations.

Or doesn’t have the energy to walk up the steep hill? Or maybe it’s because the smallest goat is a little scared of Santa? No, probably not that.

But if they write their wish list and send it to Santa, THEN maybe he will come! As soon as they think it, they do it. What they want most of all is a sled with a steering wheel.

On Christmas Eve they eat dinner, they do the dishes – and they wait. And wait. Finally, the largest goat goes outside to get some firewood. Then FINALLY someone knocks on their door…

THE KING OF BRAGGING

Funny and naive text about a king who wants to be bigger than himself!

In the evening, when the King is all alone in his large, empty castle, he usually writes letters to the Neighboring King. He brags about all the wonderful things he owns and all the fun things he does. The King has limousines, peacocks, and golden statues out in his grand garden. He eats cake every day and has a bed that ensures good dreams.

One day, the King receives a letter saying that the Neighboring King wants to visit. The King gets stressed. Has he perhaps exaggerated a little? Has he perhaps bragged too much about a few things? Has he been a kind of King of Bragging? What will the Neighboring King say when he arrives?

Gro Dahle / Kaia Dahle Nyhus (ill.) GO AWAY!

"Go away!" Borre says when Mini arrives at kindergarten. "There's no room for you. You're too small. You can't join us. Go away!" Borre’s voice is loud and strong. His words are like a tall fence, a closed door, a locked gate. The words bruise and break, crush and cut and clip.

But luckily, Mini has Grandpa. And Grandpa isn’t just Grandpa – he’s also a wizard. Because Grandpa can do magic with words and speak the language of wizards. "It’s important to find words that shine in the dark," says Grandpa. Because everyone needs words that open doors, and words that dare to ask for help. Words like hello, come in, join us, sorry. These are the bravest words we have.

Gro Dahle is one of Norway’s most renowned and beloved picture book authors, with a unique gift for expressing painful and difficult themes in an intimate, poetic way. Her collaboration with illustrator Kaia Dahle Nyhus spans over a decade, and has received awards and critical acclaim.

Go Away! is a powerful story about exclusion and bullying among the very youngest children and about the tools we can use to create inclusion, empathy, and understanding.

AN ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE

for children

An Enemy of the People is about Dr Stockmann, who discovers that the bathing water in the city’s spa is contaminated with dangerous bacteria. He expects people to value his discovery and thinks it will help improve the city. Instead, his political enemies try to destroy him, attempting to silence him with threats. Dr Stockmann stands his ground and in the last act, he delivers one of Ibsen’s most famous lines: “The strongest man in the world is he who stands most alone.”

An Enemy of the People is a play that outraged people in its day, but that has gained fresh relevance in our own era. This is the first book in a new series for children about the works of Henrik Ibsen.

With the aid of illustrations and simplified text suitable for younger readers, the series aims to introduce Ibsen’s plays to new generations all over the world. Ibsen is the world’s second-most performed playwright after Shakespeare. This series will give children an understanding of Ibsen’s texts and what they can teach us today.

Kåre Conradi (b. 1972) is one of Norway's most famous actors. He's educated at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts and London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. In Never Become a Secret Agent, Einar stumbles through the challenges of going undercover at his old school while trying to keep his identity hidden, deal with new (and far too attractive) magic users, and figure out what everyone else seems to be hiding from him.

This is the second book in Mats Eldøen’s hilarious fantasy series about how awkward it can be to be twelve and how getting everything you’ve ever wished for isn’t always what it seems. Even with magic, you still have to navigate crushes, jealousy and privileged jerks.

Mats Eldøen is an actor, improviser and artistic director of Det andre teateret (The Second Theatre). His TV work includes educational children’s series Tellekorpset and Lesekorpset for Norway’s national broadcaster, and he has also worked on numerous films for adults and children..

MY LIFE AS A CAT

Freaky Friday with cats

On her 11th birthday, Katja gets more than she bargained for when she wishes she were a cat. The next morning, she wakes up with four paws, whiskers, and a tail – she has switched bodies with her beloved cat, Kitty!

But life as a cat in Lion Hill is far more dangerous than Katja imagined. All summer, cats have been disappearing from the neighbourhood. Is there a catcatcher on the loose? Or something even worse – a cat killer?

Together with her best friend Carl-Otto and Kitty (now stuck in Katja’s body), Katja must solve the mystery before she becomes the next victim. But how do you investigate a feline crime spree when your mum is a busy mayor, your dad a distracted brain surgeon, and your older sister only cares about social media?

My Life as a Cat is a magical yet downto-earth story, filled with humour, heart and suspense. With striking illustrations by Oda Valle, the book takes readers on an adventure that combines the warmth of Astrid Lindgren with the whimsical imagination of Roald Dahl.

A funny and gripping tale about identity, family, and friendship for everyone who loves cats and great stories!

Mitt liv som katt 130 x 205 mm / 240 pages

I wake up lying on something big and lumpy that’s making waves. For a second, I wonder if I’m out at sea because everything underneath me is black and blue. But I can’t smell any saltwater here. What I can smell is vanilla with a hint of liquorice. That’s when I realize I’m lying on an ginormous duvet. And beneath the duvet a giant girl lies snoring. She must be at least ten metres tall and probably weighs a ton. Her hand is enormous.

when I put my hand on hers the sight of it makes me jump. I don’t have a hand any more – I have a paw! A white paw.

I look down at my body.

It’s covered in fur.

Thick black fur.

Apart from my belly and chest and paws. They’re covered in white fur.

I spin around and land on the floor with a crash. Hang on, no – I land on all fours without even thinking about it. This body I’ve ended up in seems to have a will of its own.

I look round.

There’s no one else here apart from me and the giant girl. The room feels familiar even though it’s enormous. It reminds me of my room, only a hundred times bigger.

I creep carefully over to the pile of furniture that’s blocking the door. I slip behind the desk and over to the mirror. When I see my reflection, I start to scream, but the only noise that comes out of my muzzle is ‘Meeeeoooww!’

I’ve turned into Kitty.

There’s no doubt about it.

But how the heck did it happen?

CARLA, MY CARLA

Inghill is crazy about horses. She wants a horse more than anything else in the world. She thinks about horses, she talks about horses and she has her own horse – at least on a fake Facebook profile. But she is constantly exposed as a liar.

THE PERFECT SERIES FOR HORSE GIRLS

Luckily she goes riding at the riding school, but she is too young to join the stable gang, and it is not enough to be on horseback twice a week. Then, one day, Mum and Dad lose their senses and give Inghill a horse for Christmas. But her pony Carla is also a bit crazy and Inghill cannot quite manage to control her. One day it all goes terribly wrong!

Ingeborg Arvola OVER EVERY

HURDLE

Carla, the world's best pony, is safe in her stable at the riding school, and Inghill couldn't be happier. The very best thing imaginable is to practice jumps with Carla, and Inghill's dream is to beat everyone at showjumping, but if that's ever to happen she has to learn to control Carla. She also has to learn to control herself. Luckily she has a natural talent. Unfortunately she doesn't have a horsebox – and it's something she'd really like...

INGHILL + CARLA = TRUE LOVE

Inghill loves Carla, her pony. She loves riding, jumping and flying through the air on the back of the world’s most beautiful pony. But now Carla is injured and limping on her hind leg, so Inghill cannot ride her. She can’t even walk her. And it doesn’t look like it’ll get better.

It helps somewhat to ride other ponies, but none of them are as good as Carla. None of them ARE Carla. Inghill’s love of horses is on its way to being replaced by horse sorrow thanks to the loss of Carla.

This is Ingeborg Arvola’s third book about Inghill and Carla. A horse trilogy for all horse lovers, but also for all book lovers. Heroines like Inghill are few and far between. A tough girl with a big heart which beats loud and clear for those being bullied, those experiencing injustice and, of course, for horses!

Excerpt from chapter 3, in translation by

That’s when they heard the first bang. It sounded like a balloon popping, but sharper, with a more metallic clang. Suddenly Dad was sitting bolt upright, a grave expression on his face.

‘What was that?’ Erle whispered. She didn’t know why she was whispering, but it felt like the right thing to do. The restaurant had gone weirdly silent.

‘A shot,’ Dad said, his voice low. ‘Get under the table. Now!’

‘Dad,’ Erle objected, but something about his expression caused her to sink to the floor all the same. The seething anger she’d felt only moments ago was gone, evaporated in an instant.

Dad had stood up. Some of the other guests were standing by the window, and two waiters opened the door and looked outside. The streets were bustling with people. They were on their way out to grab a bite to eat or to see a show at the theatre, chatting and laughing, and only a few of them had stopped to glance around them warily.

There was another bang. Two, three, four, five in succession. Erle had never actually heard the sound of a gunshot in her life, but still she knew that her dad had made no mistake.

‘Stay here. Don’t go outside. Stay under the table, make sure you’re hidden. No matter what,’ Dad said, striding towards the exit.

‘Dad!’ Erle shouted, slipping out from under the table and running through the restaurant after him. She caught up with him by the door.

‘Dad, where are you going? Don’t go out there!’

He turned around and stroked her hair and her cheek with his large hand.

‘Somebody out there might need help,’ he said gravely. ‘Stay here, my love. Hide. I’ll be back. Just wait here.’

‘But why do you have to be the one to go? Let someone else do it!’ Erle protested. Didn’t he get it? This was none of their business. They were just Rehman and Erle, they were holidaymakers. This didn’t have anything to do with them.

‘Don’t be scared, I’ve got experience in situations like this, I’ve been in war zones, you know that. I need to help if I can,’ said Dad.

What happens when the society suddenly breaks down, something scary and unknown is threatening life, and everyone is scared of everyone? What’s it like to be 13 years old and on the run in this scenario?

Abdi (13) and his little sister Alva have to escape through the forest after the civilization around them suddenly collapses and their mother – and many others – is murdered by some scary and until now unknown beasts. They don’t know what the beasts are or where they come from, all they know is that their society has been turned upside down, a lot of people have been murdered, and everyone fears everyone. Can Abdi and Alva survive long enough to reach the coast, where safety hopefully awaits them?

Beasts is Cormac McCarthy’s The Road for children: Shudderingly creepy and incredible – and easy to read.

Abid and Alva’s small rubber boat battles its way through the waves, heading for Shetland in search of sanctuary and their father. Fortunately, they are rescued by a small ship and manage to cross the sea. Finally safe on the island they are placed in a refugee camp along with several hundred others. Here they are safe from the beasts – for now. But two children alone in a world filled with lurking dangers, are never truly safe.

Then, one evening it turns out that Shetland isn’t as far from mainland Europe as one might think. The beasts attack the camp and Abid and Alva are on the run – again. Alone and terrified, they flee towards Lerwick, to warn about the coming danger, to find their father and, finally, safety.

THE LAST VALKYRIE

How far would you go to save the one you love most?

Set in modern-day Oslo, The Last Valkyrie is a pulse-pounding mix of enemies-to-lovers romance, Norse mythology and a deadly competition for wealth, fame, life and death.

Every girl in Oslo who turns 18 this year is invited to compete in the mysterious competition The Valkyrie. The prize is 3 million kroner, a sum that for Ava would change everything.

But joining the contest means declaring war on her powerful stepfamily — the ambitious twins Kamilla and Lukas. Their mother, Helene ThreshowSpilberg, is amongst Norway's wealthiest, and the twins are known to be ruthless in order to get what they want. The twins also team up with a stranger, someone whose connection to The Valkyrie runs deeper than he will admit. And he will stop at nothing to keep Ava out of the competition.

As the competition unfolds, Ava realises The Valkyrie is more than a contest. It’s a divine trial that could awaken forces older than time itself. To survive, she must solve the riddles of the Norse gods, uncover who her true allies are, and face the terrifying possibility that not all myths are fiction.

With the emotional depth of Twilight, the fierce survival energy of The Hunger Games and the secretive intrigue of The Da Vinci Code, The Last Valkyrie launches a new YA trilogy where epic love collides with Norse legend — blazing with mystery, passion, and power.

Hanne Eik (b. 1980) has a master's degree in biology from The University of Bergen. She made her fiction debut in 2020 with the novel The Golden Tiger. The Last Valkyrie is her first YA book, and the first book in the action-packed fantasy trilogy A Divine Game. She grew up in Stavanger, and has lived in Singapore for several years. She now lives in Molde with her husband and five children.

A whiff of something sensational hangs in the air as I reach the foyer. A small group of students are huddled together just outside the front doors. They are talking excitedly. Instinctively, I am about to turn around, take the emergency exit, but something shimmering in the air catches my attention. What is it? As if bewitched, I walk closer. It takes a moment before I realise that it's a key floating above the cluster of students, perhaps four meters in the air. But, can it be a key? A key cannot float in empty air. But that is precisely what it does? The key appears to be made of glinting gold metal, with delicate ornaments and tiny flowers. It slowly rotates on its own axis. As the key turns all the way around, I see that there are runes carved into the shaft.

. I learned runes before I learned the alphabet. It spells The Valkyrie.

«Oh my God, what the hell is that?» I hear a girl shout, without really paying attention. The key is barely bigger than a regular house key, but even from a distance it is perhaps the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.

«How is that possible? Is it actually magical?» the same girl asks. She sounds scared. I don’t know if I am scared. All I feel is a very powerful emotion. Like I am completely mesmerised.

DICK PICS AND OTHER DISASTERS

Would you rather send a dickpic to your mum (on accident!) or spend the whole day offline?

Jonas is head-over-heels for Manuela, the new girl at school. But he has zero experience with girls – and even less of a clue about how to get their attention. Then he overhears some classmates talking about how effective sending dick pics can be. Desperate and wildly misguided, Jonas decides to give it a try. But taking a decent pic turns out to be harder than expected – bad lighting, awkward angles, hiding behind a curtain so no one sees him... and then, disaster: he sends it to the wrong person. Not just anyone – he sends it to his mum.

It's already the worst thing that’s ever happened to Jonas. But then it gets worse: his phone is confiscated for the rest of the day. No scrolling, no games, no chats. Just a full Saturday – offline. With Brutus. His weirdest friend.

What do people even do without a screen? Go outside? Play hide-and-seek? Ding dong ditch? Steal apples? One disaster leads to another… until, a miracle happens.

This outrageous, laugh-out-loud novel takes place over the course of a single day. A day full of poor choices, absurd moments, and one unforgettable miracle.

Noh sells cigarettes in the school playground. He gets into fights. He skips class and mouths off.

The older boys want nothing to do with him, no matter how hard he tries to impress them. Deep down, he’s just a teenage boy trying to find his place— between two cultures, in a town that doesn’t understand him, and in a school system that’s already labelled him a problem.

After one incident too many, Noh is forced into ART—Anger Regression Therapy—a program meant to “fix” his behaviour. His therapist, Lars, thinks a few group sessions will teach Noh to control his temper. But Noh’s not angry for no reason. He’s angry at the racism, the double standards, the impossible expectations at home. And he’s angry that no one seems to be listening.

Between joint-smoking sessions with his best friend Behzad, awkward crushes, run-ins with older boys, and constant power struggles with adults, Noh is stuck navigating a life where he never quite belongs. He’s smart. He’s funny. And he sees through the bullshit—all of it.

Angry Youth is a raw, darkly funny, and brutally honest coming-of-age novel about growing up between cultures, being seen as a threat before being understood, and trying to hold onto yourself in a world that keeps pushing you out.

BORN FREE

Religious control and women's fight for freedom – an important book for young readers

Born Free is a fascinating and thoughtprovoking graphic novel about the impact religion has had, and continues to have, on women's freedom. It explores how religious practices have restricted women’s rights and shaped their lives across different cultures and societies.

In the wake of the women-led uprising in Iran and the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan, religious control over women’s lives has become more visible than it has been in decades. Acclaimed feminist and author Marta Breen places these current events in a broader historical and global context, showing how religious fundamentalism continues to threaten women’s rights even in Western societies.

Based on thorough research, Born Free tackles topics such as forced marriage, education bans, dress codes, and female genital mutilation in a respectful yet direct manner. The book’s core message is clear: everyone has the right to decide over their own life, while also respecting freedom of religion, as long as it does not violate basic human rights.

This is a vital book that encourages reflection and conversation about the role of religion in society and the position of women within the world’s faiths.

Marta Breen (b. 1976) is a writer, journalist and one of Norway's most profiled feminists. She made her debut in 2006 with the book Girls, Wine and Song, about Norwegian women through times in Music. BLOODAXE

The Saga of Queen Gunnhild

She was feared as a witch, hated as a queen and forgotten by history.

Now, for the first time, Gunnhild, Queen of Norway, finally gets her own saga.

Bloodaxe – The Saga of Queen Gunnhild is a gripping, visually stunning graphic novel that reimagines the life of one of the Viking Age’s most fascinating and misunderstood women. Married to King Erik Bloodaxe, who murdered his brothers to seize the throne, Gunnhild was mother to eight warrior sons and a strategist in her own right.

For centuries, she’s been portrayed as manipulative and cruel. But in this version, she’s revealed as a complex, intelligent woman fighting to protect her family in a violent, male-dominated world. Blending drama, history and myth, this is Viking storytelling at its most powerful.

Aleksander Kirkwood Brown (b. 1984) is half Norwegian, half Scottish and has studied film in Australia. In addition to writing books and comics, he also writes for film and TV.

Andreas Iversen (b. 1983) is a cartoonist and illustrator. His illustrations have been printed in several Magazines and newspapers. In 2013 he won Dagbladet's Comic strip competition with the strip Generasjon Lost.

FOR THE TEAM

One for the Team is about fourteen-yearold Omar. He is a substitute on the Brage team, usually an unused substitute. If the audience is the twelfth man, Omar is the thirteenth. A spectator who is also a player, or a player who is really just a spectator. Today is the final match of the season, against the bullies from Cement—a team to fear, a match to dread.

Omar has kept his status as a mostly unused substitute a secret from his parents. They believe that Omar is a regular on the team and always involved in the game. But that secret is about to unravel on the last day of the season. And father and son will come to see each other in a new light.

One for the Team is a small but meaningful story about youth football and the philosophy of the substitute. It’s touching, funny, and occasionally tender, especially for those of us who have, at some point, warmed the bench. And for those still warming it today.

Lars Saabye Christensen (b. 1953) has published a number of novels, poetry and short story collections since his literary debut in 1976 with The Story of Gly. His breakthrough came with Beatles (1984), one of the greatest literary sales successes in Norway that, over the years, new generations continue to hold close to their hearts. He received the Nordic Council Literature Prize for The Half Brother in 2001. He has also received the Riverton Prize, the Critics' Prize, the Brage Prize, the Norwegian Booksellers' Prize, the Dobloug Prize and the Norwegian Reader's Prize. He has been published in 36 countries.

Stian Hole (b. 1969) is a reputed illustrator and an author. He has created several prize-winning picture books and a number of book covers. For his works, he has received prizes like the Brage Prize, Bologna Ragazzi Award and Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis.
