NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2016
Our 3 week Introduction to Commercial Fishing course was a resounding achievement. The successful candidates received shorebased training (covering safety, gear and catch handling, net mending, rope work and navigation) and one week of mandatory safety courses (Sea Survival, Fire Fighting, First Aid, Health & Safety) as well as the Seafish Basic Fishing Vessel Stability course. The course was free to encourage new entrants to the fishing industry using financial support from the Maritime & Coastguard Agency and the EU (EMFF) via Seafish.
Complete your basic safety training in four days! Seafood Cornwall Training is offering all four mandatory training courses from 14 to 17 November. Experienced fishermen can take these as refreshers free of charge.

The University of Exeter is conducting a survey on fishermen’s health How easy is it to get a doctor’s appointment when you want one? Fishing is a physically and mentally demanding job – your biggest asset is your health! This study aims to collect data to help improve healthcare services, and ultimately benefit your health. Your responses are important to help us understand how fishermen engage with healthcare. Your responses will be analysed anonymously – you do not have to give your name. We are asking you to share your experiences in a short survey: http://fishermenshealth.org/
