PROUD VENUE PARTNER
Welcome,
On behalf of the Board and staff of the Capitol Center for the Arts, we want to welcome you to our 2023-2024 Season. Whether you are here for your first show, or you’re a longtime member returning again and again, we’re thrilled you are joining us.
The Capitol Center for the Arts is driven by our mission to bring highquality, diverse, and accessible performing arts to the heart of New Hampshire. We place a high importance on making sure that there is a seat for everyone and that our venues offer all your favorites and introduce you to some new talent as well. From concerts to comedy to family programming and more audience interaction than ever before, we hope there’s a show for you at the Chubb Theatre and the Bank of NH Stage.
Over the past year, our work to engage our entire community has seen the launch of new ventures, such as the Culinary Artist in Residence Program, the continuation of our Education Series, and the expansion of our work with organizations like Overcomers, Project S.T.O.R.Y, Concord PRIDE and more. We are proud to serve as a community resource that brings people together through the transformative power of the performing arts.
We hope your time at the Chubb Theatre and the Bank of New Hampshire Stage this season is full of music, laughter, and poignant moments shared with those around you. We thank you for choosing to spend your time here with us, and we hope you’ll be back very soon.
Enjoy the show!

Back in summer 2021, Grace Potter took off on a solo cross-country road trip that would soon bring a life-saving reconnection with her most unbridled self. Heading out on Route 66 from her home in Topanga Canyon, the Vermont-born artist spent the coming weeks crashing in roadside motels and taking time each night to deliriously transcribe the song ideas she’d dreamed up behind the wheel, often scrawling those notes onto the backs of postcards and motel notepads. After completing two more trips across the U.S. on her own and partly navigating her way with the help of hand-drawn maps from self-styled historians of Route 66 Potter flew to Nashville for a series of recording sessions that quickly gave way to her most magnificently unfettered collection of songs to date.

IThe Lords of 52nd Street are known as being Billy Joel's backing band for many of his most successful albums, including "Turnstiles", "The Stranger" and Grammy award winning albums 52nd Street, Glass Houses, and The Nylon Curtain. The band recorded and toured with Joel for over a decade, and it wasn’t until their induction into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame where they decided to reunite after a 30year separation. After their 2014 hall of fame induction, The Lords of 52nd Street picked up their instruments yet again, and began performing in front of live audiences together.

At 9, Matthew began teaching himself how to play the Hammond B3 organ. Four years later, he became the youngest artist to be endorsed by Hammond in its 80+ year history. He was also named a Yamaha Artist at 15, becoming the youngest musician to join the stellar group of jazz pianists. In 2022, he joined the ranks of the Nord Keyboard Artists. In 2010, Matthew was a winning participant in the “Child Stars of Tomorrow” competition, as part of Amateur Night at the Apollo. A year later, at just 10 years old, he was invited to perform at Stevie Wonder’s induction into the Apollo Theater’s Hall of Fame. Matthew has been on national and international radio and television, which includes the Today Show documentary series "Boys Changing the World," Harry Connick Jr Show an appearance on the syndicated TV talk show Ellen and a segment on the most-watched news magazine on television 60 Minutes.
The William H. Gile Trust was created by Helen B. Gile in 1952. She left a legacy of more than $700,000 to finance a free concert series in Concord, New Hampshire in memory of her father, William H. Gile. Helen Gile stipulated that the trust funds were to be managed by what is now Citizens Bank, and that the selection of shows "of the highest type in all respects" was to be made by a committee of three local citizens. After much planning, the first William H. Gile Concert Series was held during the 1960-61 show season, and, over 60 years later, we are happy to now call the Capitol Center for the Arts our home.

“American Pie” still goes to heart as soon as originator Don McLean plays this classic at his concerts. Still, it's worth remembering that the 76year-old composer has written and sung numerous other melodic and harmonic successes in his decades-long career with "Vincent (Starry Starry Night)," "Castles in the Air," "And I Love You So," and "Cryin’,''. Accordingly, the complete discography of the legendary and still active singer/songwriter is significant. Among other things, Don McLean has a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and was inducted into the National Academy of Popular Music Songwriters’ Hall Of Fame in 2004.

Tom Rush is a gifted musician and performer, whose shows offer a musical celebration a journey into the tradition and spectrum of what music has been, can be, and will become. His distinctive guitar style, wry humor and warm, expressive voice have made him both a legend and a lure to audiences around the world. His shows are filled with the rib-aching laughter of terrific story-telling, the sweet melancholy of ballads and the passion of gritty blues. Rush's impact on the American music scene has been profound He helped shape the folk revival in the '60s and the renaissance of the '80s and '90s, his music having left its stamp on generations of artists, such as James Taylor & Garth Brooks, who've both credited him as a main influence, Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin.
Matt Nakoa is an internationally touring singer/songwriter, who appears regularly with folk icon Tom Rush. Across the board, his songcraft has garnered awards, including a win at Kerrville Folk Festival’s prestigious New Folk Competition and as “Most Requested” at The Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Though not easily pinned down, “In sum,” as a recent review put it, “Matt Nakoa is musically adept, one of those well-kept secrets you just can’t help but celebrate: intimate and genuine, soulful and bittersweet.

Scotty Austin, formally of Saving Abel for over a decade, has used his natural talent and ear for distinct sounds to produce expressive song lyrics and music throughout his career. His hard work and dedication has continued to be met with astounding results, even landing him on a #1 hit video game soundtrack with the band Supernova Syndicate for the smash hit game Dead Rising. In addition, he was the band leader for Jonathan Singleton, one of Nashville’s biggest singer-songwriters, and also played lead guitar in the group Full Devil Jacket on their second record. New England rock band, Feverslip, is Scotty's backing band.
Arcantica is a regional heavy rock band hailing from New Hampshire. Setting the stage with hardhitting debut EP Withered, they opened up the doors to many more possibilities than they could've imagined, with catchy electronic leads, heavy guitars, and pounding drums. From aggressive, soaring choruses found in Ruin, to soft, building ballads like Save You, Arcantica isn't afraid to branch off in all different sounds.
