In this issue of Club Connection, we set out to help you plan your next idyllic summer vacation. There may be a few “are we there yet” questions along the drive, or some resistance to putting down the electronics, but that’s just because we’re not sure it even counts as a family vacation otherwise. To get you started, our team has compiled a list of the best Club vacations for the family in the U.S., and I promise these destinations have something unique for everyone.

If you’re looking for non-stop entertainment but not keen on amusement parks, we suggest towns like Branson, MO; Gatlinburg, TN; and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. These popular destinations offer a wide variety of activities as they welcome families year after year. If you’re ambitious, you can pack in a ton as you enjoy the local lake or ocean, seek out animal encounters, and take in an evening show. Reconnect with nature by visiting a preserve, booking an outdoor adventure, or visiting one of the national parks like the Great Smoky Mountains.

For those who prefer a quieter time spent touring historical landmarks, antique shops, deep sea charters or feasting on freshly caught seafood, Cape Cod fits the bill. We’ve recently added several resorts in the greater Cape Cod area to our Club. In this issue, we share Cape Cod resort destinations as well as some of our favorite family-friendly summer activities in the area. Looking beyond the crowded summer months? Everyone who visits Cape Cod is captivated by its incredible beauty and comes back for the laid-back lifestyle and lobster rolls.

Cape Cod, Massachusetts, has long been a popular summertime destination in the New England region.

With a beautiful coastline, stunning beaches, quaint villages, and delicious food, there is much to enjoy in Cape Cod. To help Club Members visit the area for the first time, we put together a list of our ‘Top 10’ activities for you to explore.

Plan a Day at the Beach

Cape Cod is known for its soft sand and beautiful beaches with over 130 to choose from along the peninsula. Whether looking to swim, surf, or simply relax in the sun, there’s truly a beach for every preference. You can even find some family-friendly tidal flats for those who like just to dip their toes in the water. Some of our favorite beaches include Coast Guard Beach in Eastham, Nauset Beach in Orleans, and Race Point Beach in Provincetown. Many of these beach towns provide lifeguards and beach rentals, making your day at the beach that much easier.

Visit the National Seashore

Cape Cod National Seashore spans over 40 miles and offers stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. The perfect excursion for an outdoor adventurer, the seashore features several hiking trails, beaches, and historic sites to explore, including the iconic Cape Cod lighthouse.

Go on a Whale Watching Tour

Cape Cod is home to a variety of whale species, including humpback, fin, and minke whales. Whale watching tours are a popular tourist activity. There are several companies that offer excursions from various locations around the Cape and our resort staff is happy to guide you in the right direction. Two of the well-rated providers include Dolphin Fleet Whale Watch in Provincetown and Hyannis Whale Watcher Cruises.

Stroll through Heritage Museums and Gardens

Heritage Museums and Gardens appeal to our arts & culture-seeking Club Members. There’s an Antique Automobile Collection, American folk art, and meticulously landscaped gardens. Boasting more than 100 acres featuring vibrant flora and fauna. There’s also a special children’s garden called Hidden Hollow with sensory gardens, water experiments and storybook trails.

Visit Idyllic Chatham

Located on the southeastern tip of Cape Cod, Chatham is a charming coastal town. The town is known for its picturesque Main Street, lined with historic buildings, shops, and restaurants. Guests can immerse themselves in art galleries, antique stores, and museums. While in the area, don’t miss a visit to the Chatham Lighthouse. One of only 16 remaining lighthouses on Cape Cod, it is an American icon that open a few hours a week in the summer for visitors (check the schedule before visiting).

Bike the Cape Cod Rail Trail

The Cape Cod Rail Trail is a 22-mile bike path that runs from South Dennis to Wellfleet. The path passes through several charming towns and offers beautiful views of the Cape’s natural beauty. Bikes can be rented at several locations along the trail.

Explore Provincetown

Provincetown, located at the tip of Cape Cod and often referred to as P-town, is known for its vibrant arts scene and free culture. The town’s Commercial Street is lined with galleries, shops, and restaurants. Provincetown boasts several beaches and hiking trails to explore.

Visit the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History

Located in Brewster, the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History offers exhibits on the Cape’s unique natural history, including its geology, flora, and fauna. The museum also offers guided nature walks and educational programs for all ages.

Spend the day at JFK Hyannis Museum

Time in Hyannis was cherished time for the Kennedys. Hyannis was heart and home to the entire family. Visit the JFK Hyannis Museum to learn more about President John F. Kennedy’s legacy. Step back in time to the beloved Summer White House days of the early 1960s. You won’t be disappointed!

Watching the sunset from the ocean is a magical experience, and there are several companies that offer sunset sails from various locations around the Cape. Some popular options include Schooner Hindu in Provincetown and Cape Cod Waterways in Harwich Port. If those are booked, be sure to ask the concierge for their recommendation as they often know the best local guides.

The best time of year to visit Cape Cod for warm-weather activities is June through September. The weather is idyllic to enjoy the sights and explore Cape Cod with average high temps in the 70s (Fahrenheit).

Florida’s Gold Coast is Bountiful in Vacation Opportunities

Club Members seeking to explore new destinations this summer without leaving the US need look no further than South Florida, the stretch of the golden coast that runs from Fort Lauderdale to northern Miami.

Members can explore the greater Fort Lauderdale region from one of our centrally located Club resorts. By Air : Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) serves the region and is located a short 3-miles from downtown Fort Lauderdale. A focus city for discount carriers including Allegiant Air, Spirit Airlines, and JetBlue, the airport is a convenient destination for those traveling from Atlanta, Charlotte, Toronto, Baltimore, New York, and more.

By Car : Interstate 95 (I-95) runs along the Eastern United States and serves as the main interstate highway along Florida’s Atlantic Coast, passing through Fort Lauderdale.

Families seeking amusement parks and thrills have several parks in the greater Fort Lauderdale area. The Xtreme Action Park is a huge indoor entertainment complex with go-karts, an arcade, bowling alley, and more. Another option is Boomers!, which features mini-golf, bumper boats, and a ropes course.

Museums

Fort Lauderdale has several museums that are perfect for families. The Museum of Discovery and Science is a hands-on museum where the young and young-at-heart can learn about science, technology, and the environment. OZARK MOUNTAINS - Branson, Missouri

Branson may have become famous for its live entertainment but there’s so much more to do than see a show. Located in the heart of the Ozark Mountains, Branson is the ideal location for everyone in the family and offers a plethora of “only in the Ozark” activities. Capital Vacations’ employees recommend Club Members visit these hidden gems in Branson.

Spend the day (or two) on the lake. Branson has three lakes (Bull Shoals Lake, Table Rock Lake, and Lake Taneycomo) spanning more than 800+ miles. Club Members can rent kayaks, charter a boat or bask in the sun on a beach. Fishing enthusiasts will find bass, crappie, catfish, and bluegill (Note: a fishing license is required.). Scuba diving lessons are available at Table Rock State Park. Or spend the afternoon zooming around Lake Taneycomo on a jet ski from Branson Jet Boats.

Hop aboard the Branson Scenic Railway to explore Branson from a different point of view. The vintage passenger train departs from the 1905 depot and takes guests through the foothills of the Ozarks. The Promised Land Zoo promises a unique experience for families. Hailed as one of America’s Top 25 zoos, Promised Land Zoo allows visitors to get “up close and personal” with the 500 furry residents who roam across the 75-acre zoo. There are three levels of admission: basic, VIP and Ultimate. Depending on admission level, visitors can feed the kangaroos or enjoy a half-day safari like excursion. GRAND STRAND- Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Stretching along 60-miles of the South Carolina coastline, the Grand Strand is the perfect answer to families seeking the ideal combination of relaxing beach time and entertainment with live shows, amusement rides, and more. Myrtle Beach is an excellent vacation destination with its sunny skies, wide beaches, and family-friendly options.

Beyond the beach, Myrtle Beach has tons to offer with centrally located tourist attractions, “off the beaten” path adventures and more than 50 miniature golf courses. What is your role at Capital Vacations? How long have you worked in this position?

I was proudly promoted to Owner Services Manager in Branson, Missouri in August 2022. I started with Stormy Point Village in February 2015, and transitioned to Capital when they purchased Stormy Point Village in 2019

Name something people would never guess you do in your role.

I do not think people would expect me to work so closely with the sales department. I am in frequent contact with the sales leaders so that we can make sure that we service our owners to the best of our abilities. As our saying goes “It takes teamwork to make the dream work”, and we want to make sure our owners are taking the vacations of their dreams.

What do you like most about working with our Owners or at Capital Vacations?

I most enjoy assisting our owners book vacations that bring their family together. As a mother of three and grandmother of 5, I know how precious time spent with those you love can be.

What makes you good at your job?

I believe that always being able to find the positive in every situation makes me successful. If you are always looking for a positive, you will be positive, and it will benefit the owner and your fellow employees.

We are passionate about vacations. What is your passion?

My passion is trying to bring a smile to everyone I meet. You never know which smile you help make is going to be the catalyst to help make a thousand more.

What is your role at Capital Vacations? How long have you worked in this position? Club Help Specialist. I’ve been in this position since June 2022.

Name something people would never guess you do in your role.

I’m not sure because I think everyone thinks I can do anything, and I try.

What do you like most about working with our Owners or at Capital Vacations?

I enjoy learning about them the most. You can often find similarities in many people who come from different cultures or backgrounds. Also, I like hearing stories of their favorite vacation memories or locations. I have a long bucket list of places I never wanted to visit before speaking with our owners. I just need to find the time to go.

What makes you good at your job?

I think critical thinking and problem solving. I enjoy getting information that may seem problematic and turning it into a simple resolution. I enjoy making others laugh and smile. I believe it carries over in my work career.

We are passionate about vacations. What is your passion?

My passion is family. Often, we take the time we have with family for granted. We never want to imagine life without them. It’s about the memories we make while they are here or able. Holding on to those times and making them last forever.

Following the aftermath of Hurricane Nicole, we are pleased to announce that the pool and North side pool deck are now open for use. We understand that this has been a lengthy process, and we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during this time. As we move forward, we will continue to work towards completing the necessary repairs and will keep everyone informed of our progress. We have posted pictures of the current pool deck situation and ongoing renovations for your reference. We hope that you can enjoy the newly opened areas and look forward to completing the remaining repairs soon. Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Greetings and a warm welcome to Spring 2023! The days are filled with excitement at our mountain resort as we have successfully paid off our Capital Improvement Loan, and acquired a $1.2 million loan with the help of the Board and Capital Vacations to renovate the 201 building. We plan to use this loan to upgrade our resort infrastructure, including paving all areas, striping parking spaces, installing new parking blocks, and replacing sleep sofas and mattresses where necessary. Additionally, we have updated our cable and internet services and plan to add Smart TVs to our offerings. Our workout room has undergone a renovation, with new equipment and an inviting ambiance. Finally, we are remodeling the Round House, with a new deck and interior design. We appreciate your promptness in paying maintenance fees and encourage you to mark your calendar for our Annual Meeting on August 5, 2023. Owner participation is valued, and we thank Cory Humble and his team at Capital Vacations for their support in making our resort a great timeshare destination.

Jade Tree Cove has been diligently working on getting ready for the upcoming season here in Myrtle Beach. All exterior doors are being sanded and repainted, new Luxury Vinyl Tile flooring installed in all downstairs public spaces along with the final 17 units. All 30 units have been painted and deep cleaned during Q1. After Hurricane Ian left us without landscaping our Board of Directors agreed to install Bermuda Sod with a local contractor here in Myrtle Beach. 2022 ended in a bang and we are very proud of all the hard work that has been completed by our team. We were awarded the 2022 Best in Class Tier 3 Resort of the year.

Seawatch and Ocean View have recently finished the 1st phase of their Concrete and Repairs. For Seawatch the 1st phase started in November 2022 and was completed at the end of February 2023. This phase consisted of repairing all the spalling concrete and reinforcing all balconies, walkways, slabs, repairing cracks in the stucco and sealing around all windows and doors. The next phase will start in November 2023 and will consist of cleaning and prep of all exterior stucco surfaces, replace all sealant joints, and apply an elastomeric coating which will create a waterproof seal that is resistant to mold and mildew to the entire exterior of the building.

At Ocean view the 1st phase was started in January which consisted of replacing the first floors decks using Trex Composite Decking, and the removal of the pressure treated wood at the slab edges and replace with concrete and stucco on the West side of the building. The 2nd phase will start in November where we will tackle the East side of the building.

From November to April, extensive renovations took place in a community. LVP flooring was installed throughout the living area and kitchen of each unit, replacing old carpet and red brick. The clubhouse and front office also received the same upgrade in January. In February, over 286 cypress bushes and shrubs were removed, and more than 75 Crepe Myrtles were planted to give the grounds a cleaner look. The media cabinets and side tables were replaced in March, with over 100 silk plants, assorted decorations, 110 media cabinets, end and side tables donated to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church of NMB and Goodwill. In April, the final touches were made with the installation of new drapes, valances, swivel chairs, and custom area rugs in each unit. The team, particularly Renee Raucci, Operations Manager, and Chris Green, Maintenance Supervisor, played an integral role in the project’s success. The team’s logistical skill and positive attitude made this ambitious project possible. They walked units, motivated their team and made it possible to donate over 100 coffee tables and 200 swivel chairs throughout the community.

Exciting news here at Tropic Sun Towers! The rebuilding of the seawall and pool area has begun. They will start taking out the old seawall. The new seawall will go back the way it was, but with a two-foot higher block wall on top of it and then the glass railing on top of that. The pool & spa will be replumbed, fixed and cleaned. Once that is complete the new pavers will go around it. The Board has also authorized the installation of a new 10’ X 10’ spa to be worked on once the old pool and spa are back up and running. Tropic Sun Towers is working as hard and as fast as it can to get the pool area up for summer. One area of concern is the turtles as we approach turtle season. So far, the county will let us continue working since we have already started. There will be a turtle watch every morning to make sure no nests happen overnight with procedures in place if one is found. Please thank your Board for the work they all have done to make sure the job is underway before turtle season. The new beach access will be ready in time for summer guests. We are all looking forward to getting the resort fully operational.

Capital Vacations Recognizes General Managers and Resorts with Awards of Excellence

Capital Vacations held its 2023 GM Summit and Expo in Myrtle Beach, SC earlier this year. General Managers from 200-plus resorts across the US, Caribbean and Mexico attended the conference.

Participating General Managers were inspired with new enthusiasm for Capital Vacations’ company purpose and core values; engaged in meaningful conversations on navigating change through company integrations; heard from legal on managing risk and HR on how to recruit top talent. Key highlights included valuable time with our leaders Jason Shroff, Travis Bary, Alex S. Chamblin, Jr., and Richard Muller along with a moving guest speaker Joe Moglia.

Coming together as one T.E.A.M., new friendships were made at multiple networking events including the Awards of Excellence Gala where individual General Managers and Resorts were celebrated for their dedication to excellence, the owners, guests, and the communities they serve.

The Brand Advocate Award was presented to Yva Saint Louis of Hollywood Beach Tower, Hollywood, Florida. Yva embraces the identity of the brand and brings the Capital Vacations brand to life at Hollywood Beach Tower.

The Developer of People Award was awarded to Robin Bundy of Villas at South Gate, St. George, Utah. Robin was described as a General Manager who leads by example, working closely with employees to identify strengths and future leaders. She works in the trenches with her team at any task needed.

A Community Service Award was presented to Nicole Maurer of The Links in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Nicole, along with Caren Kapinos, coordinated a fundraiser to help women, who were without financial resources or government assistance, to receive free mammograms. She also participated in an ALS walk to raise funding the ALS research.

Martin Ebel of Sedona Spring Resort Villas in Sedona Springs, AZ received the Community Advocate Award. Martin’s grounds team helps maintain the grounds of the Sedona Community Cemetery and Cook’s Cedar Glade Cemetery out of respect and appreciation for the founding Schnebly family who were the pioneers of Sedona. Currently, the City of Sedona does not maintain the grounds, so Martin leads his team to step in and help preserve the history of the Sedona community. Plus, Martin’s team is active in supporting local organizations and volunteering at the local foodbank.

A Community Service Award was presented to Grand Crowne, The Townhouses and Carriage Place Resorts in Branson, Missouri. The staff of Grand Crowne sponsored a silent auction at the annual meetings and owners’ week. The team supported the Gift of Hope, an organization that provides meals to approximately 2,500 school children each week, so they have food over the weekend. Owners bid on the 40-plus items and learned about the charity. Through the silent auction, the resort raised more than $2,000 for the Gift of Hope.

Julie Phillips of Peppertree by the Sea in Myrtle Beach, SC won the Partnerships Award. As General Manager of Peppertree by the Sea, Julie ensures partnerships work for the benefit of the Association. She provides support, assistance and delivers on the service promise, thus improving the overall experience.

Boardwalk One in Ocean City, MD achieved a 5.9 percent improvement in overall operations. General Manager Dee Wooden received the award on behalf of Boardwalk One.

Waterside Resort in Roper, NC experienced a 4.5 percent improvement in resort operations. General Manager Vickie Scott received the award on behalf of the resort.

Hollywood Beach Tower in Hollywood, FL experienced a 1.7 percent improvement in resort operations. General Manager Yva Saint Louis received the award on behalf of the resort.

Waterside Resort in Roper, NC received the award due to its 92.7 percent ranking. General Manager Vickie Scott received the award on behalf of the resort.

Oceanique Resort in Indian Harbour Beach, FL was recognized for its 92.2 percent ranking. General Manager Courtney Davis accepted the award on behalf of Oceanique.

Saint Tropez Resort in Ocean City, MD was recognized for its 88.2 percent ranking. Area General Manager Tanya Hudson accepted the award on behalf of Saint Tropez.

Bluebeards Resort in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, USVI received the award for its overall ranking of 86.3 percent. General Manager Mikhal Shamkin accepted the award on behalf of the resort.
