Audubon library facilities and services continue to grow
BY MELINDA RAWLS HOWELL Contributing writer
There’s lots happening — new and ongoing — in the Audubon Regional Library system as it continues to serve East Feliciana and St. Helena parishes.
Clinton branch construction
Construction at the Clinton branch is moving along said Trevor Collings, director for the Audubon Regional Library
The evidence can be seen outside as it is evolving. Foundation pads, some sidewalks, a driveway and some of the parking lot are done with new work completed almost daily. Workers said they are being careful to leave paths of access into the library as they complete each step in the construction project.
The foundation pads are for the covered areas and will include seating, Collings said. When completed, the additions/improvements in Clinton will include playground equipment, benches, sidewalks, an area suitable for group activities and a grassy play area along with the new and improved parking lot.
Outreach coordinator hired

Collings also announced the system has now hired Terry Taylor as outreach coordinator Taylor will be planning more events beginning this fall and working with other public and private organizations and institutions including the Head Start programs and the Councils on Aging in the parishes to better serve residents, Collings said.
Hotspots available
Another new service/feature being provided by the library, Collings said, is that

all the branches will now offer hotspots which are used to access Wi-Fi. Patrons may check out the devices and there will be six available at both the Jackson and Clinton branches in East Feliciana Parish and ten at the Greensburg branch for St. Helena Parish They were acquired through a company that works with non profits and the library will pay only for the service contract, he said. Seed library
Another new feature, a seed library, can be found at two of the branches, Clinton and Greensburg. Seeds can be taken or donated and may include heritage seeds, organic and hybrid. More information about seed exchange is available at the two branches and in East Feliciana Parish from Jessie Hoover, horticulture agent, at the LSU AgCenter in Clinton Books for Boots
All Audubon branches are participating in the collection of items for the Books for Boots program. Patrons may have noticed boxes with the logo at each branch. The nonprofit organization’s mission statement says it provides “new and gently used books, movies, music CDs, puzzles and craft items to all members of our military from injured recruits at basic training to veterans.”
Useful guidelines are available at the library They specify things like the physical condition desired and also restrictions on donations like movie ratings and content
Listed as popular book items are: fiction novels; nonfiction; true crime novels; military history; Civil War books; WWI and WWII books; Holocaust books; learning language books (German, Spanish Russian, Icelandic, Greek); art books; and history books (American, ancient).

Middle School Saints, Tigers battle to 6-6 tie

Community news report
On Aug. 27, a few members of the East Feliciana High School football team participated in a news conference ahead of their Thursday matchup against Belaire in the Battle on the Bluff Jamboree at A.W Mumford Stadium on Southern University’s campus. While there, they were able to talk strategy and leadership with East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Sid Edwards.
It was a Feliciana battle on the field earlier this month as the West Feliciana Middle School Saints took on the East Feliciana Middle Tigers. The game ended in a 6-6 tie.
