There are certain issues that demand to be packed in your cabin bag, not just bookmarked on your phone. And this, I’d argue, is one of them.
Our cover story takes us to Toronto, Canada’s powerhouse of commerce and culture, where glass towers meet indie galleries and Michelinstarred menus rub shoulders with street-food legends. In her destination deep dive, Andrea Thompson unpacks why the city’s luxury hotels—from the Ritz-Carlton to the Fairmont Royal York—are as well-tuned for boardroom deals as they are for post-meeting martinis .
From the buzz of Bay Street to the baroque serenity of the French Riviera, we then drift south to Saint-Tropez, where villa living is an art form and privacy is the ultimate luxury. With curated stays from St Tropez House, including the jaw-dropping Villa Ama and Domaine Louise, we explore the new rules of Mediterranean indulgence and why UHNW travellers are making this their seasonal HQ .
Elsewhere, I spoke to Richard Crawford, whose global hit show Leave No Trace is rewriting the script on eco-conscious luxury travel. His take? You can enjoy five-star experiences without leaving a footprint—because responsible travel doesn’t have to mean roughing it .
In Muskoka, we explore Canada’s bestkept luxury secret—where wellness meets wilderness and the definition of ‘cottage’ is redefined as multi-million-dollar retreats accessible only by seaplane. Partnering with The Ritz-Carlton, Jayne’s Luxury Rentals paints a picture of barefoot exclusivity for those seeking true digital detox .
Bon voyage,
Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi flexes its muscles as the UAE’s rising MICE capital. From Yas Island’s FacePass innovation to hosting the world at the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the emirate is turning business travel into something not just efficient, but experiential. And that’s the direction our sector is heading: smart, sustainable, and undeniably stylish .
We also look at the future of flying—paperless boarding, economy sleep pods, stand-up seating, AI travel assistants, and the slow but steady march of sustainable aviation fuel. If you’ve ever cursed a check-in queue or dreamed of a lie-flat upgrade in coach, this feature is for you.
And in case you were wondering, yes— business class has gone to the dogs (literally).
In our Travel Info section, we unpack the rise of pet-friendly premium cabins and the airlines rolling out the red carpet for four-legged flyers.
Whether it’s luxury in Venice at the Hilton Molino Stucky, frontier elegance in Montana at The Ranch at Rock Creek, or the sheer wonder of cruising through Alaska’s fjords, this issue celebrates the full spectrum of modern business travel—from high-octane to high-altitude, and everything in between.
So wherever you’re heading next—Toronto, Tuscany, or perhaps just Terminal 5—let this be your companion, your inspiration, and your reminder that business travel isn’t just back. It’s better than ever.

New legislation promises free cabin bags on all EU-bound flights, targeting Ryanair, easyJet, Wizz Air.
Business travellers flying between the UK and EU could soon benefit from the end of carry-on baggage fees, under new legislation backed by the European Parliament’s transport committee this week.
The amendment to EU air passenger rights calls for airlines to provide one free cabin bag up to 7kg and 100cm in combined dimensions, plus a small personal item, on all flights to and from the EU. The proposal passed with overwhelming support—38 in favour, two against, and two abstentions— and is now headed to negotiations with EU member states.
If adopted, the rules will apply to UK-based travellers on EU routes, including frequent flyers using low-cost carriers like Ryanair, easyJet, and Wizz Air, which currently restrict standard fares to an under-seat bag. Full-service carriers such as British Airways and Jet2 already comply, offering more generous cabin allowances as standard.
The amendment also targets seat selection charges, proposing airlines no longer charge extra for allowing passengers to choose their seat—another pain point for time-sensitive corporate flyers.
AEU TO BAN CARRY-ON BAGGAGE FEES ON FLIGHTS, AFFECTING UK BUSINESS TRAVELLERS
Spain has already backed the move, but aviation lobby groups including Airlines for Europe (A4E) argue the change could be operationally unfeasible and lead to fare hikes. “The European Parliament should let travellers decide what services they want, what services they pay for and, importantly, what services they don’t,” said A4E Managing Director Ourania Georgoutsakou.
Despite industry resistance, the reform marks a potential watershed moment in European air travel. If passed, it would standardise carry-on policies across the bloc and improve transparency—offering a boost to business travellers frustrated by inconsistent baggage rules and hidden fees.

ITALY’S LARGEST HOTEL GROUP EXPANDS INTO CALABRIA AS UK TRAVELLERS SEEK RURAL RETREATS, WELLNESS ESCAPES AND AUTHENTIC ITALIAN EXPERIENCES
UNA Italian Hospitality, Italy’s largest hotel group, has made its debut in the rugged southern region of Calabria with the launch of UNA Hotels Tenuta Contessa Farm & SPA Cosenza—a serene countryside retreat aimed at a growing wave of British travellers in search of off-grid luxury, wellbeing, and slow travel.
Nestled in the Valle del Crati between the Pollino Massif and the Sila Highlands, the hotel marks the brand’s first property in the Calabrian hills, a lesser-known corner of Italy
now gaining traction among international visitors keen to experience a more authentic, sustainable side of the country.
Occupying a carefully restored 19thcentury farmhouse, the property blends rustic charm with modern comforts across 23 spacious suites, many offering sweeping views and large workspaces— ideal for remote workers looking to balance productivity with peace. Whether it’s a romantic escape, a wellness-led getaway or a working holiday with breathing space, the retreat is designed to provide the perfect setting for mindful travel.
At the heart of the property lies the Escape Bio & Wine Spa, a 260-squaremetre sanctuary featuring treatment rooms, a fitness suite and rituals inspired by organic botanicals. Outside, an elegant pool framed by olive trees and traditional stone walls invites guests to relax in nature without sacrificing design appeal.
Dining at Lucia Madre Restaurant offers a taste of Calabria’s culinary soul, with menus rooted in Mediterranean traditions and produce sourced directly from the estate’s organic gardens or small regional farmers. Guests can immerse themselves in the region’s culture through cooking classes, wine tours and olive
oil tastings—all curated to connect travellers with the land and its people.
The hotel is also positioning itself as a goto venue for destination weddings, events and retreats. With flexible indoor-outdoor spaces—such as the “Infinito” event area and panoramic terraces—it can accommodate up to 400 guests with bespoke service and stunning views at every turn.
The launch comes as British demand for undiscovered Italian destinations continues to grow, with travellers increasingly opting for rural stays over crowded cities or touristheavy coastal resorts. Wellness, sustainability, and value for money are shaping holiday decisions more than ever, and UNA’s newest addition aligns perfectly with that shift.
“UNA Hotels Tenuta Contessa Farm & SPA Cosenza offers a side of Italy many UK visitors haven’t yet explored,” says a spokesperson for the brand. “It’s ideal for those looking to disconnect, reconnect with nature, or simply experience a more soulful side of the country.”
Bookings are now open for 2025 and beyond, with UK interest expected to accelerate as more travellers seek meaningful, restorative experiences in Italy’s lesser-known regions.

HÔTEL ROYAL IN ÉVIAN
CHOSEN AS
OFFICIAL VENUE
FOR 2026 G7 SUMMIT
From June 14–16, 2026, the eyes of the world will turn to the shores of Lake Geneva as Hôtel Royal in Évian-les-Bains hosts the G7 Summit under the French presidency of Emmanuel Macron.
This will be the second time the legendary property — perched between lake and mountains in Haute-Savoie — welcomes the leaders of the world’s most powerful democracies. An icon of French hospitality and a discreet witness to global diplomacy, Hôtel Royal has long played a quiet but pivotal role in shaping international affairs.
A legacy steeped in diplomacy
Évian’s diplomatic legacy stretches back nearly a century. In 1938, the town hosted a humanitarian summit convened by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt to address
the plight of Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi persecution. In 1962, the Evian Accords were signed nearby, ending the Algerian War and granting independence to Algeria.
Then, in 2003, the Hôtel Royal welcomed the G8 under the leadership of President Jacques Chirac — a moment that cemented the hotel’s role as a venue for high-level negotiations. The hotel has since become the annual stage for Franco-German summits, bringing together key political and economic figures from both nations. Most recently, President Emmanuel Macron met former German Chancellor Olaf Scholz there in September 2024, reaffirming the hotel’s importance as a symbol of cooperation and quiet diplomacy.
A palace of elegance, history, and discretion
Reaffirming its prestige, Atout France recently renewed Hôtel Royal’s “Palace” distinction, the highest accolade in the French hospitality sector. The property — part of The Leading Hotels of the World — is set within a 19-hectare private park, offering panoramic views of Lake Geneva and the surrounding Alps.
“The common thread between these sixteen extraordinary hotels is the fact that they all elevate expertise and local heritage. But more than that, they are all the fruit of extremely advanced design work, a reflection of clear, across-the-board collaboration between their creators and their regions. The artistic approach serves hospitality here by shining a light on its multiple influences and adding a touch of warmth, clarity and meaning, in order to construct what are undoubtedly some of the most beautiful destinations in the world,” noted Jérôme Gouadain, Secretary General of the Prix Versailles.
Namia River Retreat's inclusion is both an honour and affirmation of the resort's mission: to offer mindful luxury and tell The Namia Story to the world - a journey of life by the river, crafted with nature, and guided by the timeless ritual of light.
Originally opened in 1909, the hotel has hosted royalty, heads of state, and artists from around the world. A meticulous renovation in recent years has preserved its Belle Époque grandeur while introducing contemporary touches that cater to the needs of modern dignitaries and discerning travellers alike.
One of its newest highlights, the evian SPA, the first of its kind in Europe, has already garnered acclaim, being named Best Spa in France by Hotel & Restaurant Meetings. The hotel is also in contention for Best Hotel in the World at the upcoming 2025 Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards — a reflection of its rising profile on the global luxury travel stage.
Setting the stage for the world’s most powerful leaders
As it prepares to host the G7 Summit once more, Hôtel Royal will draw on its centuryold heritage of hospitality, diplomacy and discretion. Leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States will convene at the lakeside estate to discuss the world’s most pressing issues — from global security to climate change.
In welcoming the G7, Hôtel Royal once again places itself at the heart of international dialogue, where elegance meets influence and where French art de vivre supports the quiet work of diplomacy.

THE HOXTON DEBUTS IN EDINBURGH’S WEST END WITH GRAND GEORGIAN FLAIR AND MODERN VERVE
The Hoxton has officially opened its doors in Edinburgh, marking the brand’s Scottish debut with a confident, characterful transformation of 11 Georgian-inspired terraced townhouses in the city’s elegant West End.
The moment you enter, you’re met with an eye-catching mural by artist Verity Woolley and the amber glow of a vintage Murano glass chandelier — a fitting prelude to a space where tradition and contemporary creativity collide. Lounge areas, cleverly arranged around original columns, feature scalloped detailing, mid-century armchairs and bold geometric textiles, giving an effortless balance to the building’s historic bones. The showpiece lobby bar, styled as a classic tap room, offers all-day flexibility: a place for remote working by day and whisky-fuelled conviviality by night.
Tucked just off the main space is a plush, five-seater velvet screening room, curated in partnership with local cinephiles Cinetopia. It’s the kind of charming surprise The Hoxton has become known for.
Spread across both sides of the street, the hotel comprises 214 rooms across nine categories. Highlights include the brand’s new ‘House’ room type: three-bedroom, three-bath homes perfect for group travel or extended stays. Throughout the property, AIME Studios has meticulously preserved the building’s Georgian proportions and architectural integrity, celebrating the history of Edinburgh while adding fresh, playful touches.
Expect sweeping sash windows, doubleheight ceilings, intricate cornicing — and design details that nod to the city’s layered aesthetic, from subtle tartan motifs to vintage brassware.
Downstairs, Patatino channels Italian trattoria soul with a spirited Edinburgh twist. Think striped awnings, exuberant floral arrangements and a Mediterraneanleaning menu that leans into seasonal Scottish produce. Open from breakfast to late, Patatino delivers long Sorrentine-style lunches, candlelit suppers, and heartfelt hospitality that invites lingering.
In a city famed for performance, The Hoxton doesn’t disappoint. The hotel’s 300 sqm ballroom-style venue, The Get Together, features its own bar, stage and partitionable spaces, making it ideal for weddings, live gigs or even Edinburgh Fringe performances. Flooded with light from a central skylight and lit by globe pendants, it blends grandeur with contemporary cool.
The Apartment, The Hoxton’s signature events concept, also arrives in Edinburgh. Its four flexible rooms — the Library, Drawing Room, Living Room and Dining Room — surround an open pantry and kitchen that transforms into an evening bar. It’s tailor-made for everything from
private dinners and creative workshops to board meetings and brand activations.
True to brand ethos, The Hoxton Edinburgh works closely with local creatives and causes. The launch of Hox Galleryspotlights fine art photographer Soo Burnell, whose serene, architectural portraits of public swimming pools will be the opening exhibition. In a partnership with Scotland’s leading youth homelessness charity Rock Trust, £1 will be added to every food and drink bill to directly support those in need.
Guests also enjoy complimentary Brompton bike hire and mates’ rates at Hot Yoga and PedalHouse, offering smart ways to explore the city while staying active.
On the retail front, the in-house concept store Best Of celebrates Edinburgh’s vibrant maker scene. Expect limited-edition silk scarves from Simo The Label x Patatino, sustainable wool pieces by TBCo, graphic prints from Max Machen, witty Pieute t-shirts and more.
Set within the leafy West End, just steps from Haymarket Station and directly on the city’s newly expanded tram line, The Hoxton Edinburgh places guests in one of the city’s most liveable and architecturally rich neighbourhoods. With easy access to the New Town, Murrayfield, Castle Rock and Arthur’s Seat, it’s an ideal base for city explorers, festival-goers and business travellers alike.
The area’s fusion of Georgian elegance, cultural vibrancy and creative energy makes it a natural fit for The Hoxton — and a standout addition to Edinburgh’s hotel scene.
BRITISH AIRWAYS SETS NEW SPENDING THRESHOLDS FOR LOYALTY TIERS, TRIGGERING MIXED REACTION
British Airways has reignited debate over its Executive Club after finally confirming how much cardholders must spend on its BA American Express Premium Plus card to earn tier points toward Bronze, Silver and Gold status.
From now on members will collect 750 tier points after spending £15,000, a further 750 points after another £5,000, and an extra 1,000 points after a final £5,000, taking the annual card-earn cap to 2,500 tier points for £25,000 of spend. The figures had been trailed in December, when BA announced it would switch from distance-based to revenue-based tier qualification, but the precise thresholds were not disclosed until this week.
The new structure means a Premium Plus holder can cover a third of the 7,500 points required for Silver status without taking a single flight, while reaching Bronze (3,500 points) now demands little more than maxing out the card and booking one long-haul trip in premium economy. Attaining Gold remains a far steeper climb: even a full £25,000 of card spend leaves members about 17,500 points short of the 20,000-point target, implying roughly £15,000–£17,500 of flight spend once bonuses are factored in.
Reaction has been split. Some frequent flyers branded the £25,000 target “unreasonable”, noting it equals Britain’s average annual salary and still buys only a fraction of Gold status. Others, including loyalty-programme analyst Gilbert Ott of the website God Save the Points, praised the change for rewarding big spenders and restoring some exclusivity to a club whose lounges have become crowded in recent years. “For many BA passengers, Silver is the new Gold,” Ott said, adding that allowing members to cover a third of the way to Silver on card spend alone is “very reasonable”.
BA is attempting to cushion the transition: because details arrived nearly five months into the new membership year, every Executive Club member will receive a one-off credit of 500 tier points. Even so, some cardholders who have been running up big balances since April feel short-changed. The airline has not explained why the spending window for
this year will close at the end of January rather than in March, though industry observers suspect BA wants a two-month buffer to tweak the system before next year’s cycle begins.
Beyond tier points, card economics remain unchanged. Premium Plus customers continue to earn 1.5 Avios per £1 of general spend and 3 Avios per £1 with BA or BA Holidays, plus a Companion Voucher when annual spend hits £15,000. That voucher lets holders take a companion on an Avios booking for the taxes and fees alone.
The overhaul follows years of criticism that BA’s mileage-based system was too easy to exploit via sale fares and promotional bonuses, allowing some travellers to pick up Gold for as little as £3,000. The move to revenue qualifications mirrors the model long used by US carriers and is intended to tilt rewards towards those who bring in the most cash.
Still, critics argue BA should offer higher tiers of card-based earning, as American airlines do. Ott believes a second spending band—perhaps £75,000—to double or triple the current tier-point haul “would be a game-changer” by anchoring top-tier loyalty firmly to the biggest spenders.

LEAVE HOW RICHARD CRAWFORD IS REDEFINING LUXURY TRAVEL FOR A SUSTAINABLE WORLD NO TRACE
INTERVIEW
When Richard Crawford swapped whisky for wanderlust, he probably didn't expect to land in Antarctica. Yet the executive producer and host of the internationally acclaimed TV series Leave No Trace now spends his days travelling to some of the most extraordinary—and often remote—corners of the planet, telling stories that redefine what luxury travel means in an age of sustainability and conscious living.
Crawford's journey began, somewhat fittingly, with Scotch. Representing The Glenlivet in the US, he quickly became the face of the brand, telling the story of Scotland through its most iconic export. But soon, the storyteller in him wanted more.
"Whisky was one product in a luxury lifestyle space," he recalls. "I realised I could be telling a broader story—one about luxury living as a whole, from watches to travel, food, and beyond."
That broader vision eventually led to him founding his own media business, initially
producing branded content for highend clients. As the digital age took hold, he shifted from print to video, producing travel features for brands and hotels. A serendipitous safari shoot with a production partner was the catalyst for something greater. "We looked at each other and said, 'Let’s make a television show.'"
The original concept was simple: showcase extraordinary travel experiences. But as they explored luxury destinations around the world, Crawford noticed something profound. "So many of these places had sustainability at their core. Ecotourism. Social responsibility. That became the real story we wanted to tell."
ANTARCTICA AND AUTHENTICITY
OAsked about the destination that left the biggest mark, Crawford doesn’t hesitate: "Antarctica. It’s like stepping onto another planet. The vast openness, the silence... it stays with you. We landed on an ice runway. I’ll never forget that moment."
And yet, for all its remoteness, Antarctica also prompted a deeper question about the role of luxury travellers. "People say, why allow tourism there at all? But the very limited tourism—120 people a year to that camp—creates powerful advocates. These are community leaders, influencers. They come back transformed."
This blend of opulence and authenticity lies at the heart of Crawford’s storytelling. Leave No Trace is not about barefoot backpacking in the name of the planet. Nor is it about unchecked indulgence. It’s about proving they can coexist.
"You don’t need to be in a thatched mud hut eating berries to be a sustainable traveller. Luxury destinations can lead the way in doing the right thing."
BUSINESS MEETS LEISURE
Crawford has also witnessed the rise of "bleisure" travel—where business trips blend into leisure escapes. "More destinations are catering to this crossover. Whether it’s incentive trips or postconference downtime, places like the Maldives or Costa Rica are perfect."
Top picks for business travellers seeking something more transformational? "Norway blew me away. Stunning infrastructure, beautiful scenery, and a real sense of wellbeing. Costa Rica is also a leader in ecotourism. And if you can make the trip, the Maldives offers that rare combination of serenity and sustainability."
BEHIND THE SCENES: CRAFTING A GLOBAL HIT
So what goes into making a show that resonates globally?
"Pre-production is my favourite part," Crawford says. "I’ll sit down with a map and type 'top 10 eco destinations in Sri Lanka' into Google. Then we reach out, agree to a collaboration, and show up."
With a lean crew and a nimble setup, the show thrives on spontaneity. "We don’t

arrive with a script. We plan five segments: accommodation, food, social impact, experience, and overall journey. Then we just get stuck in. A lot of my reactions are genuinely unscripted. I want to see it for the first time as the audience would."
And audiences are responding. Leave No Trace airs on National Geographic, Amazon Prime, Sky TV, EarthX, and Fox Life. A new season lands this July.
NORWAY
INTERVIEW
CAN LUXURY AND SUSTAINABILITY COEXIST?
Crawford believes they must. "I’ve seen organisations make decisions that hurt their bottom line because sustainability matters to them. That’s authentic. And it works."
He notes innovations like free-night stays in exchange for volunteering, and the rise of renewable energy in resorts. Technology is also playing a key role, from carbon tracking apps to AI-driven travel planning tools.
"Luxury today is about experience, not excess," he adds. "Farm-to-table cuisine. Cultural preservation. Community involvement. Travellers want immersive, meaningful experiences. And they’re willing to pay for them."
BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE BRAND
Beyond the destinations and production values, it’s Crawford’s personal philosophy that anchors Leave No Trace.
"I'm not a climate scientist. I’m not a hardcore activist. I’m just someone trying to do a little better with each journey."
His advice for others looking to build a brand in this space? "Be tenacious. You’ll get 100 nos for every yes. But if you believe in your story, keep pushing."
THE ULTIMATE TAKEAWAY
What does Crawford want viewers to take away from Leave No Trace?
"That you can be indulgent and responsible. You can enjoy the finest things in life and still do your bit. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing."
With his blend of storytelling, adventure, and conscious luxury, Richard Crawford is proving that the future of travel isn’t just about where you go. It’s about how you go—and what you leave behind.
SRI LANKA
TAKEAWAYS FROM ‘LEAVE NO TRACE’
You can have luxury and sustainability: True eco-conscious travel doesn’t mean compromising on comfort—many high-end resorts now lead the way in responsible tourism.
Travel shows should be immersive, not scripted: The best stories come from real reactions. Crawford and his team arrive with minimal planning to allow authentic experiences to drive the narrative.
Off-the-beaten-path is the new luxury: Destinations like the Republic of Congo, Norway, and Sri Lanka feature prominently—not for five-star frills, but for meaningful, localised encounters.
‘Bleisure’ travel is booming: More executives are adding transformational personal experiences to business trips. Think Maldives for board meetings or gorilla trekking in the Congo after conferences.
Local matters more than lavish: Farmto-table dining, reduced food miles, and locally sourced menus are increasingly considered hallmarks of luxury.
Eco efforts aren’t always costeffective—but they are essential: Some of the most sustainable properties operate at a loss to maintain their principles. That’s how change happens. Storytelling creates impact: It’s not about being perfect. It’s about sharing authentic journeys that inspire small changes in others.

CROWN JEWEL OF THE FRENCH RIVIERA
A GLITTERING MEDITERRANEAN RETREAT
ST TROPEZ
DESTINATION REVIEW
Saint-Tropez, the crown jewel of the French Riviera, has been captivating UHNWIs since the 1950s. This glittering Mediterranean retreat has evolved from a sleepy fishing village into an international symbol of elegance, exclusivity, and pure indulgence. For decades, Saint-Tropez has been the ultimate escape for those who value luxury, privacy, and unforgettable experiences.
THE 1950S
The transformation of Saint-Tropez into a global symbol of glamour and exclusivity began in the 1950s, when its irresistible charm captivated artists, intellectuals, and film stars. The turning point came in 1956, when Brigitte Bardot’s sultry performance in “And God Created Woman” lit up the silver screen, casting this picturesque harbour town into the international spotlight. Overnight, SaintTropez became synonymous with freedom, sensuality, and effortless sophistication. At that time, the village’s cobbled streets were lined with pastel-coloured cottages, and the harbour was a charming mix of humble fishing boats and then the first glimpses of luxury yachts. The air was thick with exclusivity and discovery, as though the world’s elite had stumbled upon the perfect, untouched escape. The Mediterranean’s quiet rhythms were interrupted only by the clinking of champagne glasses, the whispers of creatives plotting their next masterpiece, and the laughter of sun-kissed jetsetters.
Of course, Saint-Tropez didn’t stay a hidden treasure for long. Word spread, and so did the opulence. The quaint fishing village eventually gave way to the sleek yachts and the A-list crowds of royalty, Hollywood icons, and business magnates, all eager to revel in its bohemian spirit and unspoiled beauty. Yet, despite the glittering transformation, Saint-Tropez has remained true to its essence, retaining that magnetic charm that first captured the world’s imagination.
TODAY
Fast forward to 2025, and Saint-Tropez remains the epitome of glamour and allure. The harbour, now dotted with megayachts gleaming under the Riviera sun, sets the stage for an experience like no other. High-end boutiques and Michelin-starred restaurants mingle with sun-drenched cafes and luxurious beach clubs such as Club 55, Nikki Beach and Byblos Beach along the length of Pampelonne Beach. Yet, SaintTropez has retained its essence - a delicate balance between lavish opulence and the charming authenticity of its Provençal roots. Saint-Tropez functions like an exclusive members-only club, attracting royalty, business magnates, and A-list celebrities. Its intimate size and carefully curated luxurious experiences create a sense of belonging that few other destinations can replicate.

DOMAINE
THE LUXURY RETREAT WHERE WINE AND HISTORY MEET LA ROUILLÈRE
Irecently had the pleasure of visiting Domaine La Rouillère, and let me tell you - it’s not just a vineyard, it’s a love letter to Saint-Tropez’s rich winemaking heritage, wrapped in elegance and a sprinkle of innovation.
For those seeking a luxurious escape in the heart of the Saint-Tropez peninsula, Domaine La Rouillère is more than just a vineyard—it’s an exclusive sanctuary, designed for sophisticated stays, private celebrations, and indulgent relaxation.
A STORY ROOTED IN HISTORY & PASSION
This gem was born in 1900, a year bursting with milestones - the first Zeppelin took flight, the Paris Metro opened, and legendary poet Jacques Prévert was born. Among these great beginnings, Domaine La Rouillère quietly made its debut, nestled between the rolling landscapes of Gassin and Ramatuelle. Its name, “Rouillère,” is a nod to the river that meanders through the estate, nourishing its vines with the finest terroir.
Fast forward to 1998, and the estate got its much-deserved revival when its new
owners decided to “wake up the sleeping beauty.” In came a state-of-the-art 1,700m² wine cellar, gleaming with 54 stainless steel vats and a sprawling barrel room - the kind of place that makes a wine lover’s heart skip a beat.
THE VINEYARD: EXCELLENCE BOTTLED UP
Spanning 47 hectares, Domaine La Rouillère nurtures seven red and rosé grape varieties (think Grenache, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah) alongside three white varietals (Vermentino, Sémillon, and Ugni Blanc). The result? A line up of light, vibrant, and expertly crafted Côtes de Provence wines that demand a sunset toast.
The estate produces exceptional honey, rich in flavours, thanks to environmentally friendly beekeeping practices. The initiative is part of an eco-responsible approach, protecting endangered bees.
ACCOMMODATION: A LUXURIOUS STAY AMIDST THE VINES
Domaine La Rouillère offers three distinct residences for guests seeking an immersive experience in the heart of the vineyard:
La Bastide: A 600m² Provencal mansion featuring six bedrooms, each with kingsize beds, en-suite bathrooms, TVs, and safes. The interiors blend rustic charm with modern elegance, boasting two living rooms with fireplaces, a wine cellar, and a billiards room.
Guest House 1: A 130m² retreat with two bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and a spacious living area.
Guest House 2: A 100m² residence with two additional bedrooms, ensuring comfort and privacy.
Guests can enjoy a fenced swimming pool, a pool house with a lounge area, a sauna, and a heliport for seamless arrivals.
MICE
& WEDDINGS: A VENUE FOR GRAND CELEBRATIONS
Beyond wine (though, really, what more does one need?), this estate is an ideal spot for MICE, and Weddings. With spacious event areas, luxurious accommodations, and even a heliport to avoid the 2-hour drive from Nice airport, Domaine La Rouillère knows how to impress. Whether it’s a corporate retreat, gala dinner, or a dream wedding, the setting is as sophisticated as it is picturesque.
MORE THAN JUST A VINEYARD
Aside from sipping the finest rosé in town, guests can wander through the estate’s wooded park, enjoy guided vineyard tours, and even hop on a bike for a scenic countryside ride. With Saint-Tropez just a short drive away, fine dining, cultural gems, and pristine beaches are always within reach.
FINAL SIP
Domaine La Rouillère isn’t just about wine - it’s about heritage, hospitality, and a touch of magic. Whether you’re here for business, pleasure, or an excuse to drink fantastic wine while calling it “networking,” you’ll leave feeling like royalty, with a bottle or two in hand.

CABIN CLASS
OF TOMORROW HOW THE FUTURE OF FLYING IS TAKING OFF
For most of us, air travel has long been an uneasy dance between convenience and compromise: a miracle of modern technology undermined by cramped seats, lengthy queues, and endless paper trails. But change is afoot - quietly, swiftly, and increasingly intelligently. As Richard Alvin looks at how from AI-powered booking engines to radically reimagined cabins, the aviation industry is on the cusp of a transformative decade. The question is: will flying ever truly become seamless - or even sustainable?
BOARDING PASSES GO PAPERLESS
It’s a small but significant step: earlier this year, Ryanair became the world’s first airline to go entirely paperless. No more printed boarding passes, bag tags, or seat slips - the budget carrier now requires all passengers to check in, store tickets, and navigate boarding solely via its mobile app.
At first glance, it’s a move grounded in cost-cutting and efficiency. But it signals a broader industry shift toward digitisation, and with it, a subtle recalibration of control. “Paperless travel gives airlines more data, greater agility, and fewer bottlenecks at airports,” says aviation analyst Helen Parker.
Meet Ava, Skyscanner’s AI-powered travel concierge, capable of planning multi-city trips, cross-referencing visa requirements, and suggesting hotel upgrades based on your previous preferences. Or Hopper’s ChatGPT integration, which now handles everything from flight alerts to rebooking disrupted itineraries, all via conversational prompts.
In the near future, AI assistants will likely remember your favourite row on a Boeing 787, know when you’re willing to pay for lounge access, and suggest switching departure airports to dodge strikes or delays. More futuristically, they may even factor in your carbon footprint targets when choosing flights.
“But it also means the passenger journey is increasingly dictated by your phone.”
For frequent flyers, the upside is obvious: no more scrabbling for lost boarding passes in the duty-free queue. But for others, technophobes, the elderly, and those with battery-anxiety, the race to digitise may feel like a sprint they didn’t sign up for. Either way, paper’s days are numbered.
ENTER YOUR PERSONAL AI TRAVEL ASSISTANT
Where once we’d rely on a travel agent or a tired online comparison site, the new frontier in booking is virtual - and increasingly, artificial.
“We’re heading toward a world where booking a trip is as simple as saying, ‘I want to go to Barcelona in July for under £300 with extra legroom,’” says James Allen, Chief Product Officer at a leading OTA. “And your AI agent just makes it happen.”
The result? A hyper-personalised, frictionless travel planning experience— though not without concerns about data privacy, algorithmic bias, and the potential loss of spontaneity.
THE RISE AND RISKS OF STAND-UP SEATING
If one innovation captures the polarising state of future air travel, it’s stand-up seating.
Initially floated by Ryanair (who else?) over a decade ago, the concept has resurfaced with serious intent. Earlier this year, Aviointeriors unveiled an updated version of its ‘SkyRider’ semi-standing seat at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg. Designed to pack 20% more passengers into an aircraft’s economy section, it resembles a hybrid between a saddle and a bike seat - with just enough space to perch, not sit.
Reactions have been predictably mixed. Advocates argue it’s ideal for shorthaul flights and could make air travel more affordable and accessible. Critics, meanwhile, question the ergonomics and ethics of asking passengers to remain upright for hours at 35,000 feet.
“At what point does ultra-low cost flying become inhumane?” asks Dr Sarah Kim, an aviation ergonomics expert. “There’s a limit to how much comfort travellers will trade for price.”
Still, in an era of stripped-back luxury and relentless price competition, airlines are under pressure to do more with less. And with regulators in Europe and Asia quietly reviewing feasibility, stand-up seating may soon be more than a punchline.
SELF-SERVICE TAKES OFF AT THE
TERMINAL
The airport of the future looks less like Heathrow Terminal 5 and more like Amazon Go.
From biometric check-ins to autonomous bag drops, the goal is to turn airport terminals into seamless, self-service hubs where staff are optional, and queues are extinct. In Singapore, for instance, Changi Airport’s Terminal 4 now offers facial recognition from curb to gate. Meanwhile, Amsterdam Schiphol and London Gatwick are rolling out AI-powered baggage kiosks where passengers weigh, tag, and deposit their own luggage with minimal fuss.
The benefits are obvious: faster processing, fewer staffing shortages, and a smoother customer journey. But the human touch is vanishing in parallel. “We’re seeing a shift from service-based airports to systems-based ones,” says airport strategist David Liu. “The upside is efficiency. The downside? Airports become sterile, less human.”
As airlines double down on contactless experiences, many are betting passengers will rather skip the small talk if it gets them to the lounge quicker.
ECONOMY GETS
A WELCOME UPGRADE
Amid all the automation, one surprising development is the renewed focus on economy-class comfort - particularly from legacy carriers like Qantas.
As part of its ambitious Project Sunrise, which aims to launch non-stop flights from Sydney to London and New York by 2026, Qantas has unveiled redesigned economy cabins that include more legroom, enhanced recline, and dedicated ‘Wellbeing Zones’ - communal areas offering hydration stations, stretching equipment, and guided meditations.
It’s a far cry from the cattle-class cabins of the early 2000s and suggests a growing realisation: if passengers are going to spend 20 hours in the sky, even budget travellers deserve some dignity.
“There’s been a paradigm shift,” says Qantas Head of Customer Experience, Vanessa Hudson. “It’s no longer just about price it’s about how you feel when you arrive.”
Other airlines are taking note. Virgin Atlantic recently trialled economy ‘retreat’ pods, while Lufthansa is experimenting with economy ‘sleep rows’ complete with lie-flat cushions and privacy screens. Whether these innovations scale across the fleet remains to be seen but the race to reinvent economy is finally on.
GREEN SKIES AHEAD?
Perhaps the biggest battleground for the future of aviation lies not in the cabin, but in the fuel tanks.
With aviation accounting for over 2% of global CO₂ emissions and growing airlines are under mounting pressure to clean up their act. Enter Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF): a low-carbon alternative made from waste oils, biomass, and even CO₂ pulled from the atmosphere.
SAF can slash lifecycle emissions by up to 80%, and industry giants are taking notice. British Airways, KLM, and United are all investing heavily in SAF production and usage, with Heathrow aiming for 10% SAF availability by 2030. Meanwhile, Virgin Atlantic made headlines last year by completing the first 100% SAF-powered transatlantic flight.
Yet, SAF remains painfully scarce and expensive, currently around three times the cost of traditional jet fuel. “It’s a supply issue, not a tech one,” explains Dr Rachel Wainwright, an aviation sustainability consultant. “Governments need to subsidise production and mandate blending targets to build momentum.”
Still, for now, SAF remains the most viable bridge between today’s emissions-heavy industry and a cleaner tomorrow short of reinventing the airplane entirely.
CORPORATE CONSCIENCE TAKES FLIGHT
One lesser-known ripple effect of the pandemic? Companies have radically
rethought their travel policies. Zoom might not have killed business travel, but it certainly made CFOs and sustainability officers rethink its necessity.
A new wave of corporate travel guidelines now emphasises ‘purposeful travel’ only flying when the value outweighs the environmental cost. Some firms have implemented carbon budgets per department; others require justification for short-haul flights that could be replaced by rail.
In the UK, law firm Clifford Chance has pledged to reduce business travel emissions by 40% by 2030. Google uses internal algorithms to calculate and
SO WHAT DOES FLYING LOOK LIKE IN 2030?
If the trends hold, here’s a glimpse of your not-so-distant flying future.
You’ll ask your AI concierge to book a work trip to Berlin. It’ll select a flight on an SAF-blended aircraft with extra legroom and an aisle seat. At the airport, you’ll drop your bag at a biometric kiosk, breeze through facial recognition security, and board via mobile scan, no paper, no queues, no fuss.
Onboard, you’ll sip from refillable bottles in a redesigned economy cabin with adjustable headrests, ambient lighting,
compare the carbon cost of trip options. And in Scandinavia, several major corporations now publicly report their air travel emissions in annual sustainability reports.
“Companies are realising that flying less isn’t just good for the planet it’s good for people,” says Mia Johansson, a corporate travel analyst at SAP Concur. “Reducing travel burnout, empowering remote teams, and hitting net zero targets all go hand in hand.”
That said, the allure of face-to-face meetings and the closing power of a handshake, means business travel isn’t disappearing. It’s just evolving.
and maybe even a vertical seat for the 45-minute hop back home. Your emissions will be tracked and offset automatically, and your company will log your trip in its ESG report.
Of course, flying will never be perfect. Delays will persist. Turbulence won’t disappear. And no amount of AI can replace the thrill or terror of a late dash to Gate 37B.
But as we glide toward a more connected, efficient, and environmentally conscious era of air travel, one thing is clear: the sky’s no longer the limit. It’s the launchpad.

These retreats aren’t just about switching off your notifications; they’re about switching “on” your sense of presence, clarity, and the ability to make eye contact without the impulse to check TikTok every five minutes.
WHAT ARE DIGITAL DETOX RETREATS?
PICTURE THIS: You arrive at a stunning location, hand over your phone (gasp!), and suddenly, your fingers aren’t twitching for the screen. Instead, they’re tracing the pages of an actual book, holding a hot cup of herbal tea, or making something that doesn’t involve a keyboard. Digital detox retreats are designed to remove the digital clutter from your brain, swapping out screen time for sunsets, meditation, and the forgotten joy of uninterrupted human conversation.
Studies show that excessive screen time fuels anxiety, poor sleep, and declining productivity, meaning these retreats aren’t just trendy; they’re survival strategies for the overworked and digitally drained.
WHERE TO FIND DIGITAL DETOX RETREATS?
From forest escapes to beachfront bliss, these retreats offer a global remedy for tech addiction:
EREMITO, ITALY: A silent retreat deep in the Umbrian countryside. No Wi-Fi, no notifications just blissful silence and the kind of serenity that makes you rethink your life choices.
THE TREEHOTEL, SWEDEN: Sleep in a futuristic treehouse in the Swedish
wilderness and finally replace screen glow with actual stars.
BLACKBERRY MOUNTAIN, TENNESSEE, USA: Where corporate burnout meets mountain air combining wellness with outdoor adventure for the ultimate recharge.
KOMUNE RESORT, BALI: A yoga and surf retreat that teaches you to trade Wi-Fi signals for ocean waves.
AWASI PATAGONIA, CHILE: Remote luxury in one of the world’s most breathtaking landscapes—an escape so stunning, your camera roll might feel neglected.
WHAT HAPPENS AT A DIGITAL DETOX RETREAT?
Upon arrival, your phone is gracefully confiscated (cue dramatic tug of war farewell), and the real journey begins. Expect days filled with activities designed to remind you there’s life beyond your inbox: GUIDED MEDITATION AND YOGA: Because your posture needs more than a “tech neck” reset.
NATURE WALKS AND OUTDOOR ADVENTURES: A rare opportunity to look at trees without photographing them.
CREATIVE WORKSHOPS: Whether it’s journaling, painting, or attempting pottery (with varying success), these activities help spark non-digital joy.
WELLNESS THERAPIES: Massages, sound healing, and breathwork sessions that remind you relaxation still exists outside spa emojis. Without constant pings and the pressure to document every meal, guests often find themselves in deep conversations, sleeping better, and most shockingly “bored” in the best possible way.
HOW SHOULD YOU FEEL WHEN YOU LEAVE?
Expect to walk away feeling refreshed, clear-headed, and slightly superior to those still glued to their screens. The plus side to this is being able to sleep better, your thinking sharper, and experiencing fewer existential crises over unread emails.
For business travellers, these retreats can be a revelation offering not just a chance to unplug but a renewed approach to worklife balance. A digital detox retreat is the perfect reminder that sometimes, the best Wi-Fi connection is none at all!
HIGHGATE
CEMETERY
WHERE HISTORY, MYSTERY, AND MUSIC LEGENDS REST IN PEACE
Highgate Cemetery isn’t just a resting place -it’s a Victorian gothic dream, a literary pilgrimage, and, depending on who you ask, a paranormal hotspot.
Opened in1839, it was designed to be one of London’s most prestigious burial grounds, attracting philosophers, poets, rockstars, and revolutionaries alike. Today, it’s ivycloaked tombs, dramatic mausoleums, and eerie silence make it one of the city’s most fascinating places to explore.
WHO’S BURIED HERE?
Home to some of the most influential figures in history, including:
• KARL MARX: The father of communism, whose imposing tomb is a must-see.
• GEORGE ELIOT: The celebrated novelist behind “Middlemarch”.
• DOUGLAS ADAMS: The genius behind “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”.
• LUCIAN FREUD: The renowned painter.
• CHRISTINA ROSSETTI: The poet behind “Goblin Market”.
• ALEXANDER LITVINENKO: The exRussian spy whose mysterious death made global headlines.
But Highgate isn’t just for philosophers and poets - it’s also the final resting place of music royalty:
• GEORGE MICHAEL: The legendary singer-songwriter behind “Careless Whisper” and “Faith”, buried in a private plot near his mother.
• MALCOLM MCLAREN: The punk provocateur and manager of the Sex Pistols, whose grave is inscribed with the words “Better a spectacular failure than a benign success”.
TOURS & WHY TAKE THEM
Highgate Cemetery offers guided tours, which are the best way to explore its ‘hidden corners and fascinating stories. The West Cemetery is only accessible via tour, allowing visitors to see exclusive areas like the Terrace Catacombs and Egyptian Avenue. The East Cemetery, where Karl Marx is buried, can be visited independently, but tours provide historical insights that bring the site to life.
Being one of the most expensive cemeteries in the UK, with burial plots starting at £32,580 on the East side and £56,325 on the West side.
So, unless you’re planning something very imminent, securing a spot in Highgate Cemetery is not exactly easy - but it does come with some serious historical prestige.

WHERE BUSINESS MEETS BRILLIANCE UAE'S MOST COMPELLING MICE DESTINATION
ABU DHABI
For years, when international planners thought of the UAE, the conversation defaulted to Dubai—flashy, fast-paced, and filled with towering ambition. But quietly, confidently, and with a vision rooted in culture, sustainability, and strategic growth, Abu Dhabi has emerged as the UAE’s most compelling destination for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions). In a global landscape where business travel is being redefined by purpose, performance, and experience, the UAE capital is no longer a supporting act—it’s the headline.
At the heart of this transformation is the Abu Dhabi Convention & Exhibition Bureau, established under the Department of Culture and Tourism. Since 2013, it has been steadily implementing a long-term plan to reposition the city as a global business events hub. The results are starting to turn heads. A record number of events hosted in 2024, ambitious goals to double MICE output by 2030, and a growing reputation for quality, efficiency, and elegance all point to one thing: Abu Dhabi is open for business—and means it.
Much of the city’s success rests on its ability to marry infrastructure with experience. The Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) stands as a monument to that ambition. As the largest venue of its kind in the Middle East, it features more than 150,000 square metres of indoor and outdoor space, 13 vast halls, and a 6,000seat International Convention Centre. Yet its size never compromises on style. Here, conferences of scale and significance are hosted with the same grace and efficiency as high-level boardroom briefings.
But business in Abu Dhabi extends far beyond convention centres. In a world where the lines between business and leisure are increasingly blurred, the concept of “bleisure” has become a core element of Abu Dhabi’s MICE appeal. Nowhere is this more evident than on Yas Island, a masterstroke of integrated planning that blends theme parks, five-star hotels, beaches, world-class dining, and futuristic innovation.
ON THE NEXT PAGE
The island is home to what may well be the world’s most seamless business event infrastructure. Through a strategic partnership between destination developer Miral and ADCEB, Yas has become a beacon of what MICE in the future looks like. One innovation FacePass, a biometric-enabled facial recognition system—has reinvented event check-ins and hotel access, eliminating queues and friction. Just as impressive is the metaverse-inspired virtual Yas Island, which allows planners to explore venues and visualise events from anywhere in the world before setting foot in the UAE. This focus on cutting-edge technology is matched by a meaningful commitment to sustainability. Yas is now home to the Middle East’s largest rooftop solar array, perched atop Warner Bros. World™ Abu Dhabi, and the newly opened SeaWorld Yas Island is as much a marine research centre and conservation hub as it is an attraction. Abu Dhabi isn’t just talking about net zero— it’s laying the groundwork, with a firm eye on the UAE’s national climate targets.
Of course, no MICE destination can thrive on infrastructure alone. It’s the immersive, only-in-Abu Dhabi experiences that elevate this emirate above its global competitors. Corporate events at Qasr Al Watan, the breathtaking Presidential Palace, are nothing short of majestic, while gala dinners beneath the starlit domes of the Louvre Abu Dhabi offer a level of sophistication and cultural texture that few destinations can rival. Whether it’s a sunrise yoga session among the dunes or an adrenalinefuelled networking evening at Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi delivers moments that matter.
High-level networking continues into the night on Saadiyat Island, where the Cultural District is blossoming into a landmark of global artistic significance. Already home to the Louvre, it will soon be joined by the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and the Zayed National Museum. These aren’t simply spaces to admire; they’re venues that challenge, inspire, and host.
On the practical front, Abu Dhabi understands what matters to planners and PAs: value, simplicity, and return on investment. The emirate has created one of the world’s most attractive MICE support packages. Under the “Advantage Abu Dhabi” initiative, organisers can access tailored financial backing, site inspection support, and group airfare discounts through Etihad Airways. Meanwhile, the Yas Island 7.5% rebate on group spend— plus an additional AED 100 per delegate— makes a persuasive case to finance teams weighing up global options.
Then there’s the ease of access. With daily direct flights from Heathrow, Manchester, and Edinburgh, and a travel time of just over seven hours from London, Abu Dhabi feels significantly closer than many Asian and American competitors. Upon arrival, streamlined immigration, business-class
service levels, and the “Go Safe” health certification provide peace of mind, particularly for larger groups with varying delegate needs.
The city’s hospitality offering completes the picture. The St. Regis on Saadiyat Island offers discreet luxury with sweeping beach views; the Rosewood and Four Seasons on Al Maryah Island cater to executives seeking premium service in the heart of the financial district. And at Emirates Palace, opulence is redefined—where marble-clad ballrooms host Fortune 500 CEOs and national delegations alike.
If there is a secret to Abu Dhabi’s success, it may lie in its ability to think long-term while delivering in the now. It isn’t racing to be louder than its neighbours, but it is determined to be smarter. Every initiative from digitised venue inspections to sustainable energy deployment—is part of a bigger story about positioning the city as a leader in future-proofed business travel.
A SAMPLE THREE-DAY EVENT ITINERARY
A sample three-day event itinerary here might begin with high-level plenaries at ADNEC in the morning and breakout sessions on Yas Bay in the afternoon, followed by a welcome dinner under the chandeliers of Qasr Al Watan
Day two might involve executive site tours at Ferrari World and workshops at the Louvre Abu Dhabi, wrapped up with a black-tie awards gala on the beach.
For UK-based organisers weighing where to stage their next AGM, product launch, incentive programme or leadership retreat, Abu Dhabi offers a persuasive proposition. It’s not just about prestige—it’s about delivering substance with style.
In a post-pandemic, purpose-driven business world, Abu Dhabi isn’t just responding to trends—it’s setting them. With powerful partnerships, cultural magnetism, and operational excellence, it offers more than a venue. It offers a vision. And for businesses ready to think bigger, that’s exactly where the future lies.
By day three, it’s leadership summits over Arabic coffee in Emirates Palace, followed by kayak excursions in the mangroves or golf at Yas Links

LA DOLCE VITA ORIENT EXPRESS
INDULGENCE, ELEGANCE, AND ITALIAN GRANDEUR
The La Dolce Vita Orient Express is more than just a train - it’s a rolling tribute to Italy’s golden age of travel. With its sumptuous interiors, worldclass service, and a gastronomic experience curated by Michelin-starred chefs, it transports you back into a world where time slows, indulgence reigns, and beauty is savoured at every turn.
Departing from Rome Ostiense Station, we chose the two-day, one-night journey that promises to immerse passengers in the essence of Italian sophistication, offering an opulent taste of Tuscany's famous vineyards.
Before embarking, we were welcomed into an exclusive lounge at Rome Ostiense Station. Here, sipping on fine Italian prosecco and relaxing in sumptuous armchairs, ready to meet our fellow travellers. The space, adorned with art deco finishes and intricate brass detailing, sets the tone for what’s to come.
The train’s interiors, designed by Dimore Studio, are a love letter to Italian midcentury design. The firm celebrated for its cinematic approach to aesthetics, took inspiration from the 1960s and 70s, blending polished brass, walnut panelling, lacquered surfaces, and plush velvet to create an atmosphere of retro elegance. The colour palette is a warm interplay of deep ambers, rich crimsons, and shimmering golds, reminiscent of the era’s glamorous lounges. The 12 Deluxe cabins including “La Dolce Vita Suite” are a marvel of both form and function. By day, they offer a sophisticated lounge space, with a convertible velvet sofa, mirrored back wall, and wood-slatted ceilings. As night falls, the cabin seamlessly transforms into a cozy sleeping area with an elegant bed draped in fine Italian linens.
Every meal aboard is a celebration of Italian cuisine, overseen by three-Michelin-starred Chef Heinz Beck. The dining car, with its striking chrome accents, striped floors, and orange leather seating, perfectly embodies Italy’s bold yet refined style. Indulging in a seasonal menu, featuring classic flavours elevated through contemporary artistry – from homemade truffle pasta, creamy burrata with heirloom tomatoes, and slow-cooked osso buco. Each dish is carefully paired with exceptional Italian wines, including the coveted Brunello di Montalcino, sourced from the very vineyards we are soon to explore.
The bar car is where La Dolce Vita comes to life. With harlequinprint walls, curved velvet seating, and a dimly-lit ambiance, it becomes a playground for lively conversation and indulgence.
Handcrafted Negronis and live jazz performances, curated to capture the soul of Italy’s nightlife. As laughter and music fill the air, the journey feels like a dream woven from vintage Italian cinema.
Hospitality is paramount, with an exceptional staff-to-guest ratio ensuring personalised service. Every detail, from handwritten welcome notes to impeccably tailored uniforms, reflects the commitment to creating an unforgettable experience.
As the train glides through rolling Tuscan hills, we soaked in the views of cypresslined roads, golden vineyards, and medieval towns. The highlight of the “Taste of Tuscany” itinerary is Montalcino. A picturesque hilltop town renowned for its centuries-old winemaking traditions. Having departed Rome Ostiense in the morning, and after a gourmet lunch onboard, we arrive in Montalcino to spend the afternoon.
On disembarking we are treated to a private vineyard tour, followed by an intimate wine tasting that showcases the depth and complexity of Brunello di Montalcino. With free time to meander through Montalcino’s charming streets and visit artisan shops and historic landmarks before returning to the train for an indulgent evening of gourmet dining, fine wine, and sunset views over the countryside. As night falls, the train becomes a venue for live music and entertainment, immersed in the spirit of Italian joie de vivre.
The rhythm of the train cradles us into a restful sleep, and as the sun rises on the second day, we are gently woken ready
to indulge in an Italian breakfast. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee lingers as we manage to savour our final moments of luxury and elegance onboard. By midmorning, the train pulls back into Rome Ostiense station, marking the end of an unforgettable journey.
To encapsulate this experience, I am reminded by the words of Federico Fellini, the legendary filmmaker who immortalized Italian glamour:
"La Dolce Vita is not just a phrase - it is an invitation to savour every moment, indulge in beauty, and live as though art were life itself."
And that is precisely what the La Dolce Vita Orient Express offers, a chance to immerse oneself in the poetry of travel, enveloped in the finest Italy has to offer.

HOW UBER FOR BUSINESS
INTEGRATES WITH OTHER
TRAVEL TOOLS TO MAKE
JOURNEYS EASIER
BY ANDREW LAUGHLAN, HEAD OF ENTERPRISE,
Travelling for business is not always easy. Moving from location to location when working comes with additional stresses that are tiring. So, at Uber for Business, we’re taking steps to reduce the strain of travel.
Our aim is to make business journeys more pleasurable. We are doing this by making the process of ordering transport and food much easier. To achieve this, we have designed several travel tools and services that simplify your experiences.
To access these, all you have to do is open the same Uber app that most people already have on their phones. You just need to swipe over to your business profile and, if you have linked this profile to your employer’s account, you’ll immediately be able to see several advantageous features.
You’ll be able to book a variety of comfortable vehicle options, enjoy the privilege of priority bookings and have the ability to reserve trips – so you’ll always have drivers waiting when you need them. The availability of enhanced customer support will also help to reduce any worries. This can be especially helpful if you ever leave personal items behind in a vehicle when going from place to place.
INTEGRATING WITH OTHER TRAVEL AND EXPENSE TOOLS
The benefits don’t end there, however. Uber for Business also allows you to connect with other popular travel support tools, such as travel and expense platforms SAP Concur, Expensify, Coupa and the ISOS Travel Tracker. These integrations are great news as they remove the administrative burdens placed upon travellers.
For example, travellers no longer need to worry about keeping hold of receipts – as expenses can be automated. This saves the average business traveller around 40 minutes per month – time that was previously spent filing travel expense claims.
These technical integrations also allow your employer to monitor your safety – and fulfil their duty of care obligations – as you travel through different regions. In addition to these safety benefits, your organisation can also track your emissions in order to monitor progress towards Net Zero goals.
UBER FOR BUSINESS
Uber for Business is committed to providing more sustainable travel options and is also capturing data that makes carbon accounting easier. This is helping organisations measure their environmental impact and produce ESG reports.
SUSTENANCE ON THE GO
Another important integration that helps to make travel easier is Uber Eats. It’s not easy to eat well when you are in an unfamiliar location. So, if you are staying in a new city or hot desking at a company branch office, it makes sense if you can order online and have a good meal brought to you.
It can also be reassuring to know if you’re ever arriving at your accommodation late at night that you won’t need to venture out into unknown surroundings when it's dark outside.
Our Uber Eats integration provides a simple and safe sustenance solution by allowing you to order food to your location and have the expense receipts automatically sent to your employer.
We’ll continue to integrate services like this as we look to remove the frictions commonly endured when travelling – and make each experience that bit easier and enjoyable for you.
Canary Wharf’s transformation from a financial district to a vibrant residential and hospitality hub has accelerated in recent years, and my stay at Vertus Edit offered firsthand insight into this evolution.

Vertus Edit is an extension of Vertus, Canary Wharf Group’s build-to-rent division, which has successfully introduced flexible, high-quality living spaces across the estate. With this aparthotel concept, Vertus bridges the gap between residential con-

Upon arrival, the sleek, modern façade reflects Canary Wharf’s architectural language - glass-heavy, geometric, and effortlessly polished. However, stepping inside, the atmosphere shifts to a warmer, inviting aesthetic, balancing corporate efficiency with home-like comfort. The lobby lounge, decorated with plush seating, ambient lighting, and elegant neutral tones, creates a welcoming contrast to the district’s formal exterior.
Vertus Edit offers 378 fully furnished studios, ranging from compact to more spacious layouts. The Cosy Studio, my choice for this stay, spans 22m² - tailored for solo travellers or couples who value efficiently designed spaces with smart storage solutions.
Despite its modest size, the Cosy Studio felt intuitive and well-structured. The double bed was supremely comfortable, and the floor-to-ceiling windows helped maintain an airy feel. The fully equipped kitchenette was a standout, allowing for self-sufficiency - a rare perk in Canary Wharf’s high-end hospitality scene. Meanwhile, the modern en-suite bathroom, outfitted with a rainfall shower and KanKan toiletries, reinforced the property’s understated luxury. Highspeed Wi-Fi, soundproofing, and flexible
workspace elements cemented its practicality for business travellers like me and best of all the hotel is dog friendly as are most of the bars and restaurants in the surrounding area.
While Vertus Edit lacks a traditional bar or restaurant, the honesty market ensures essentials are within easy reach. BODMIN JAIL LOCKED IN LUXURY
HOTEL IS A STAY WORTH SERVING TIME FOR!
Nestled in the heart of Cornwall, The Bodmin Jail Hotel is a remarkable blend of history and contemporary elegance. Once a formidable 18th-century prison, this Grade II listed building has been meticulously restored into a four-star luxury hotel, offering guests an unforgettable experience steeped in heritage.
Originally built in 1779, Bodmin Jail was the first British prison to house inmates in individual cells, setting a precedent for prison reform. Over nearly 150 years, it witnessed countless stories of incarceration before closing in 1927. After decades of neglect, the site was transformed into a hotel in 2021 following a £65 million investment by Tudor Hotels Collection, which also operates other historic properties.
The hotel retains much of its original imposing stonework, with cell windows and iron bars still visible, offering a dramatic contrast to the modern glassfronted additions. Inside, guests are greeted by vaulted ceilings, exposed brick walls, and atmospheric lighting, creating a moody yet sophisticated ambiance. The central atrium, once the prison’s main hall, now serves as a stunning focal point with elegant furnishings and historical plaques detailing past inmates.
Each of the 70 rooms has been crafted by merging three former prison cells, resulting in spacious accommodations that seamlessly blend history with comfort. The décor is minimalist yet luxurious, featuring plush bedding, ambient lighting, and sleek furnishings. Bathrooms boast rainfall
showers and deep freestanding bathtubs, while high-end toiletries and minibars add a touch of indulgence.
Guests can enjoy free WiFi, air conditioning, soundproof rooms, and blackout curtains, ensuring a restful stay. The hotel also offers room service, a fitness centre, and a stylish bar and restaurant, serving locally sourced cuisine. Beyond its striking interiors, Bodmin Jail Hotel provides access to the Bodmin Jail Attraction, an immersive museum detailing the prison’s eerie past. Nearby, visitors can explore Bodmin Moor, Restormel Castle, and the famous Camel Trail, perfect for cycling and hiking.
So, if you’ve ever wanted to sleep behind bars - minus the conviction - Bodmin Jail Hotel delivers all the intrigue but none of the inconvenience. Whether you’re in for a night, a weekend, or just visiting for a ghostly encounter, this historic hideaway proves that serving time has never been so indulgent.
Nestled in the heart of the Lake District, the Falls Spa at the Lodore Falls Hotel offers a luxurious retreat that seamlessly blends natural beauty with modern indulgence.
Overlooking the serene Derwentwater and framed by the dramatic Catbells mountains, this four-star hotel is steeped in history and charm. Originally established in the 19th century, the property has evolved into a contemporary haven while retaining its timeless elegance.
The hotel boasts a variety of rooms and suites, each thoughtfully designed to provide comfort and style. My stay in one of the Deluxe Spa Suites was nothing short of exceptional. The suite featured a spacious layout with a king-sized bed, a cosy seating area, and a private balcony offering breathtaking views of the lake. The décor was a harmonious mix of modern sophistication and rustic charm, with natural wood accents and soft, earthy tones. Amenities included a Nespresso coffee machine, a smart TV, plush bathrobes, and a luxurious en-suite bathroom with a rainfall shower and freestanding bathtub.
The Falls Spa is the crown jewel of the property, offering a world-class wellness experience. The thermal suite is a standout feature, with twelve different heat experiences, including a herbal sauna, aroma steam room, and salt steam room. The outdoor hydrotherapy pool, complete

VENICE
A CITY AT RISK OF OVERCROWDING
But in recent years, the magic of Venice has become increasingly overshadowed by the challenges of mass tourism. With over 30 million visitors pouring into its narrow alleyways and delicate bridges annually, the city has found itself battling the weight of its own allure.
THE CHALLENGE OF OVERCROWDING
For many travellers, Venice is a dream destination, but for locals, daily life has become an obstacle course. The constant influx of tourists’ strains infrastructure, overwhelms transportation systems, and raises the cost of living. Long-time residents have voiced concerns about dwindling local culture, as traditional shops are
Venice, the city of canals, is undoubtedly one of the world’s most enchanting destinations, a place where every corner holds centuries of history, artistic splendour, and the romance of shimmering waters reflecting ornate palazzos.
replaced by souvenir stalls catering solely to visitors. In addition, the environmental impact of mass tourism - rising pollution, increased waste, and damage to delicate foundations - has threatened the city's long-term sustainability.
THE INTRODUCTION OF A TOURIST FEE
In an attempt to curb overcrowding, Venice introduced an entrance fee for day-trippers in 2023, a move that sent ripples through the tourism industry. Officials argued that the fee would help preserve the city and fund its upkeep while also discouraging short-term, high-impact visits that flood the streets but contribute little to the local economy. The initiative was met with mixed reactionswhile many acknowledged the necessity of action, others feared that the new policy would make Venice a destination only for those willing to pay for access, pricing out budget-conscious travellers.
Regarding the tourism fee, Venice introduced a €5 entrance fee for day-trippers in 2024, which applies on select high-traffic days. The fee is expected to increase to €10 on busier days in 2025. Since its implementation, the city has collected over €2 million in just 29 days. However, reports indicate that while the fee generates revenue, it has not significantly reduced overcrowding.
The funds from the tourism fee are intended to support Venice’s infrastructure and preservation efforts, though there is ongoing debate about how effectively they are being used to rebuild and maintain the city. Some critics argue that while the fee provides financial benefits, it may not be a comprehensive solution to the crowding issue.
Beyond the entry fee, discussions continue around limiting the number of visitors per day, particularly during peak seasons. If strict measures are enforced, Venice may soon be less accessible than ever, especially for spontaneous travellers who arrive without prior bookings.
Venice has taken significant steps to combat over-tourism, including banning large cruise ships from docking near St. Mark’s Square and the Giudecca Canal since 2021. These ships are now redirected to ports on the mainland, such as Marghera, Monfalcone, and Trieste. This decision followed years of protests from residents and warnings from UNESCO that Venice’s World Heritage status was at risk.
THE IMPACT ON VENICE’S TOURISM
Venice’s reliance on tourism is undeniableit fuels local businesses, supports hospitality industries, and contributes significantly to the economy. However, as restrictions increase, the city risks alienating visitors who may
opt for other European destinations without additional costs or entry limitations. On the flip side, fewer tourists could lead to a renaissance of authentic Venetian culture, as locals regain control over their neighbourhoods and reclaim their traditional way of life.
DESTINATION
If successful, these measures might inspire other heavily touristed cities to implement similar policies, marking a shift in how global travel operates. The balance between welcoming visitors and protecting heritage is a delicate one, and Venice stands as a case study for the future of tourism in historic cities.
LOOKING AHEAD
But that being said, Venice remains one of the most breathtaking cities in the worlda place where every canal whispers history, every piazza hums with life, and every sunset over the Grand Canal feels like a masterpiece. While its future as a tourist hotspot faces uncertainty, one thing is clear, Venice must find harmony between preservation and accessibility.
For now, travellers and locals alike marvel at this floating wonder, watching as it gracefully navigates the tides of transformation, forever enchanting those who set foot upon its ancient stones.
LA DOLCE VENEZIA
THE ART OF LUXURY AT HILTON MOLINO STUCKY
Asthe water taxi glides through the Venaetian lagoon, I couldn’t help but feel I’d stepped into a golden age film.
The Hilton Molino Stucky emerged like a regal stage backdrop, its historic grandeur casting long reflections in the water. Wind tousling my hair, the city unfolding before me, my vision was of a classic silver-screen icon, arriving not just at a hotel but at a scene set for glamour, intrigue, and effortless luxury.
Rising majestically from Giudecca Island, this former flour mill-turned-luxury-hotel is dripping in history, offering a mix of industrial-chic vibes and Venetian elegance that instantly sets it apart.
A HISTORIC VENETIAN LANDMARK
It is not just a hotel, it’s a piece of Venetian history. Originally built between 1884 and 1895 by Swiss-Venetian entrepreneur Giovanni Stucky, this Neo-Gothic masterpiece was once one of Europe’s largest flour mills. Strategically positioned on Giudecca Island, it played a crucial role in Venice’s industrial boom, with boats ferrying grain across the lagoon to fuel its operations. Despite its success, the mill faced decline and eventually closing in 1955. After decades
of dormancy, a major restoration began in the late 1990s, transforming the site into a luxury hotel and conference centre. Today, it stands as a testament to Venetian resilience, blending historic grandeur with modern sophistication making it one of the city’s most iconic five-star retreat with 379 rooms, each with its own slice of historicmeets-contemporary charm.
I stayed in an Executive Room on the 5th floor and let me tell you - it was all kinds of fabulous. Exposed original wooden beams, plush fabrics, and a sleek marble bathroom made it feel like old-school Venice met a modern design guru. The Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries - divine and the view absolutely breath taking! The Executive Lounge perks? A game-changer for midday snacks and sunset cocktails.
DINING LIKE A VENETIAN ROYAL
If food is your love language, this hotel speaks it fluently. Barlino, located right on the waterfront, served up a fine tasting menu with wine pairing that was next-level delicious. Every dish? A masterpiece. Every sip? Perfection.
For cocktail lovers, the Skyline Rooftop Bar is where dreams happen. Recognised
as the highest bar in Venice, the views stretch across skyline turning it into a work of art, while the cocktail menu mirrors the changing shades of the sky - yes, it’s poetic. Sipping a perfectly crafted Venetian spritz while watching the sunset cast amber hues over the lagoon? Pure bliss.
POOLSIDE GLAM & CLOCKTOWER CHIC
Few hotels in Venice boast a rooftop pool especially with views to die for, and Hilton Molino Stucky has one of the best. Although the rooftop pool isn’t just a hotspot for guests - it's occasionally a hangout for cheeky seagulls. While staff are pros at keeping them at bay, one bold bird made an unforgettable cameo by leaving a rather personalized souvenir on a guest’s shirt.
Without hesitation, the hotel team “swooped into action”, whisking the shirt away for a full wash and press, then discreetly returning it to the guest’s room. A seamless fix, proving that this hotel doesn’t just deliver luxury - it anticipates every need, even when nature gets involved.
Let’s talk about the Clocktower Suite, the highest suite in Venice, offering Murano glass chandeliers, a private jacuzzi, and
direct access to the panoramic terrace. This is VIP living at its finest.
SMELLS LIKE LUXURY, FEELS LIKE HOME
The staff? What can I say but absolute gems. Friendly and very accommodating, and always ready to help. The hotel’s scent, a subtle yet addictive fragrance that makes the whole place feel “extra” luxurious.
Mornings were a gastronomic celebrationa breakfast spread that had everything you could possibly crave, served with a side of Venetian charm.
VENICE’S PREMIER CONFERENCE DESTINATION
When it comes to business and events, Hilton Molino Stucky Venice isn’t just a hotel - it’s the largest conference venue in the city and northern Italy. With 12 meeting rooms and the Venetian Ballroom, a column-free space that can host up to 1,000 delegates, this hotel is a powerhouse for corporate gatherings, gala dinners, and high-profile events.
Awarded “Europe’s Leading Conference Hotel” for over a decade, it’s no surprise that businesses flock here for seamless
event planning, cutting-edge facilities, and a setting that blends history with modern sophistication.
EASY BREEZY VENICE EXPLORING
Getting to St. Mark’s Square was effortless, thanks to the hotel’s shuttle boat servicepunctual, comfortable, and giving you that quintessential Venetian gliding-throughthe-canals experience.
If the crowds are too much then explore the local trattorias around the corner from the hotel serving no-fuss dishes and as we found the locals don’t just dine; they pull up a chair, join the conversation, and turn dinner into an experience you won’t find on any itinerary.
FINAL VERDICT: UNMISSABLE VENETIAN GLAMOUR
My stay at the Hilton Molino Stucky Venice was a full-blown experience, not just a visit. From the breath taking views to the flawless hospitality, this hotel knows exactly how to blend history, luxury, and effortless style. Whether you're here for business, leisure, or a little bit of both, this place delivers an unforgettable Venice fix without the tourist crowds. Having been to Venice a few times this was by far my best adventure and I will be back in a heartbeat.

AN UNFORGETTABLE ALASKAN CRUISE FROM THE STUDIO TO THE GLACIERS
ALASKA
DESTINATION REVIEW
BY GRACE MOSELEY
Usually found behind the scenes designing our pages, I swapped InDesign for icefields and finally ticked off a trip I’d dreamt of for years: a week-long cruise through the awe-inspiring wilderness of Alaska. From the gold-rush charm of Skagway to the thunderous calving of Glacier Bay, this journey aboard the Norwegian Bliss turned out to be more than just a break from the Mac — it was a lesson in scale, stillness, and the kind of natural beauty that resets your soul.
There is something wonderfully cinematic about sailing into Alaska. It may be the steely swirls of mist that rise off ancient glaciers, or the creaking of pines in temperate rainforests, or perhaps the sudden breach of a whale tail-slapping the icy waters below. Whatever it is, a cruise through America’s 49th state is a journey through the wild north at its most majestic.
DESTINATION REVIEW
Our week-long voyage with Norwegian Cruise Line aboard the Norwegian Bliss began not in Alaska but in Seattle, a city with enough character to deserve its own chapter. We arrived on a Thursday and checked into the Fairmont Olympic Hotel, a grand property dripping in oldworld charm with just enough modernity to remind you you're in tech-driven Washington State. For those seeking something edgier, the Edgewater Hotel is a Seattle institution, famously perched on the pier and just as famously the one-time host of the Beatles during their U.S. tour. Legend has it they fished from their hotel room windows.
Seattle was the perfect primer to the week ahead: cosmopolitan yet close to the elements, coffee-fuelled and quietly rain-kissed. By Saturday, we were ready to board the Norwegian Bliss, a floating city complete with observation lounges, fine dining, and enough spa treatments to see you through a small existential crisis.
Sunday was a full day at sea. As we left Puget Sound behind and veered into the vastness of the Pacific, the coastline slowly surrendered to open ocean. The ship’s wraparound windows and expansive decks made the voyage part of the experience. It was a day to breathe in the salt air, enjoy a lazy brunch, and gaze at water so blue it felt otherworldly.
By Monday we had arrived in Juneau, Alaska’s pint-sized yet proud capital. With no roads in or out, it clings to the base of looming mountains like something out of a Western film set. That feeling deepens as you step into the Red Dog Saloon, all swinging doors, sawdust floors and beer served in tin mugs. It’s a tourist trap, sure, but a charming one, echoing with live honky-tonk and genuine good vibes.
Juneau is also home to Tracy’s King Crab Shack, a family-run institution famed for its colossal crab legs drenched in warm butter. It’s pricey, but frankly, worth every glistening, delicious bite. If your wallet and waistline can take it, don't miss the crab bisque either.
Though our planned excursion was cancelled due to bad weather (Alaska is wild, after all), we still managed to visit the Mendenhall Glacier. Towering and pristine, it radiates an eerie, ancient calm that words barely capture. To watch ice that has taken millennia to form slowly crack and drop into turquoise water is a humbling reminder of nature's scale and power.

RED DOG SALOON
TRACY'S KING CRAB SHACK
ALASKAN RED KING CRAB
JUNEAU
On Tuesday, we docked in Skagway, framed by towering mountains dusted in snow and wrapped in a history that smells of grit and gold. This was the heart of the Klondike Gold Rush, and its legacy lives on. We climbed aboard the White Pass & Yukon Route railway, a narrow-gauge train that zigzags its way up into the mountains through tunnels, over rickety bridges, and alongside heart-stopping ravines.
Back in town, the gold rush vibe is carefully preserved. The Skagway Museum is a treasure trove of artefacts from the era, and the Red Onion Saloon adds another layer to the town’s colourful past. Once a brothel, now a bar, it comes complete with a tongue-in-cheek tour of the upstairs rooms, known collectively as the Brothel Museum. Equal parts educational and irreverent, it's well worth the detour.
Wednesday delivered one of the most memorable scenes of the trip: Glacier Bay National Park. We spent the day in near-silent awe as the ship cruised between icefields and through fjords, with commentary from park rangers piped in over the loudspeakers. Giant glaciers calved in slow-motion. Humpback whales surfaced in the distance. Sea otters floated belly-up, seemingly without a care in the world. For a few hours, it felt like we were the only people on Earth.
Thursday brought us to Ketchikan, a town famed for its salmon runs and indigenous totem poles. We didn’t get to explore the town itself this time—instead, we ventured deep into the surrounding rainforest. Lush, silent, and untouched, this was Alaska in its purest form. Bald eagles soared above, seals lounged lazily on shoreline rocks, and somewhere out beyond the trees, whales sent their breathy plumes into the sky.
Friday marked our final stop: Victoria, Canada. We arrived in the early evening and had only a few hours to explore. The city is graceful and genteel, with manicured gardens and Victorian architecture. It offered a soft reintroduction to urban life after days spent in the wild. We took a short walk along the Inner Harbour, watched the sunset cast gold over the Empress Hotel, and tried to hold onto the quiet awe that had defined the rest of the week.
By Saturday, we were back in Seattle and, soon after, bound for home. A week is barely enough to scratch the surface of Alaska, yet somehow it manages to change you. It sharpens your senses. It expands your idea of beauty. And it whispers a promise that one day, you’ll come back.
Because this isn't a typical cruise. This is Alaska.
Raw. Grand. Unforgettable.

Beyond the rooms, The Ranch boasts an array of amenities designed to pamper and entertain. The Spa at Rock Creek provides rejuvenating treatments inspired by nature, while the Silver Dollar Saloon offers bowling, billiards, and a private cinema. Dining is a

USING BUSINESS TRAVEL
RETAIN GEN Z TALENT TO ATTRACT AND
AsGeneration Z continues to enter the workforce in growing numbers, businesses are reevaluating their strategies for attracting and retaining talent. This generation brings new expectations, looking for workplaces that reflect their values, support personal growth, and offer meaningful experiences beyond conventional career paths.
Thoughtfully crafted business travel programmes have become a tool to meet these demands. More than just a logistical requirement, well-executed travel strategies deliver real value to both employees and organisations by boosting engagement, loyalty, and professional development.
UNDERSTANDING GEN Z IN THE WORKPLACE
To fully adopt business travel as a talent strategy, it’s essential to first understand Gen Z’s unique priorities and what drives them professionally. Unlike previous generations, Gen Z places greater importance on working for companies that share their commitment to environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and ethical business practices. For them, work is about more than just earning a salary; it’s about purpose and alignment with their personal values.
This generation also values experiences over material goods. Travelling to new destinations, immersing themselves in diverse cultures and connecting with a broad network of people are vital for both personal and professional enrichment. While they appreciate flexible and autonomous work arrangements, they also crave meaningful human interaction, preferring hybrid models that prevent the isolation sometimes produced by fully remote work.
WHY BUSINESS TRAVEL APPEALS TO GEN Z
Business travel aligns closely with these core drivers. For Gen Z, travelling for work is more than a task, it’s a chance to explore new environments, step beyond
their comfort zones and gain insights that only come from direct cultural and professional engagement. These experiences contribute deeply to their sense of personal development and purpose at work.
Beyond personal growth, business travel supports face-to-face interaction, which remains essential even in an increasingly hybrid world. In-person meetings with colleagues, clients and partners help build stronger relationships that virtual platforms struggle to replicate. These encounters deepen the sense of connection to the business.
Offering business travel opportunities also sends a powerful message of trust and investment in employees. It shows that the company values their contribution and believes in their potential to represent the brand and make decisions on the ground. This sense of responsibility and empowerment strengthens engagement and loyalty, encouraging this generation to commit long term.
At the same time, business travel sharpens important skills like adaptability and cultural awareness - abilities that go beyond technical know-how and are vital for career growth. And in a competitive job market, having the chance to travel can make a role more appealing, highlighting a company’s investment in both employee development and enriching work experiences.
HOW TO LEVERAGE BUSINESS TRAVEL TO ATTRACT AND RETAIN GEN Z
To unlock the full potential of business travel, companies need to adopt a thoughtful, caring employee-focused approach. This begins by aligning travel opportunities with each individual’s role and interests, ensuring trips are purposeful and engaging rather than just routine. Equally important is prioritising wellbeing during travel, for example by building in time to explore local cultures or unwind helps employees return motivated and refreshed. Partnering with a trusted Travel Management Company (TMC) is key, offering expert guidance and customised support to deliver smooth, personalised travel experiences that balance organisational objectives with employee needs.

DIRECTOR OF CORPORATE TRAVEL AT TRAVEL COUNSELLORS FOR BUSINESS
Clear communication and robust support throughout the travel journey are also critical, especially for younger employees who may be less familiar with the demands of business travel. For example, ensuring that costs are covered on trip is essential, so choosing a partner that offers flexible payment options is imperative, particularly if your Gen Z travellers do not have personal credit card to pay and claim.
In addition, providing accessible assistance and addressing concerns promptly builds trust and reduces travel-related stress. At Travel Counsellors for Business, we combine the concierge like service of our corporate business owners with the latest technology. One such tool, myTC Locate, plays a vital role in providing real-time assistance. It offers businesses immediate visibility of traveller locations, delivers risk alerts and provides up-to-date security information. This means organisations can quickly identify and respond to unexpected challenges, ensuring travellers always feel supported and safe.
CONCLUSION
For Gen Z, business travel is more than a job requirement, it’s an opportunity for growth, connection, and meaningful experiences. When companies work with TMCs to design travel programmes that understand this mindset, they together unlock a powerful tool to engage and retain this generation.
By investing in travel experiences that align with Gen Z’s values and aspirations, businesses can build a workforce that feels motivated, valued and deeply connected to the company’s purpose, turning today’s talent into tomorrow’s loyal leaders.

MY CULINARY TRAVEL ADVENTURES
If you had told me a few years ago that I’d plan entire trips around food, I might have laughed and then nervously glanced at my growing list of bookmarked Michelin-starred restaurants.
Fast forward to today, and culinary-focused travel has become my ultimate passport to adventure. Forget landmarks and beaches (okay, maybe not entirely) - for me, it's all about tasting the soul of a destination, one bite at a time.
Last summer, I found myself foraging for wild garlic and chanterelles in the picturesque woodlands of the Scottish Highlands. Guided by a local chef with an encyclopaedic knowledge of edible plants, I felt like a modern-day (and slightly less glamorous) Bear Grylls. Later, my finds transformed into a glorious feast in a cosy
lodge - a tart, garlicky pesto spooned over freshly baked bread, paired with local craft beer. Divine doesn't even begin to cover it.
The adventure didn’t stop there. A short hop to Tuscany led me to a vineyard plucked straight from a postcard. The highlight? A private lesson in making gnocchi from scratch, followed by an unforgettable dinner amidst rows of vines, illuminated by fairy lights. It was the kind of meal that made me wonder how I can ever tolerate store-bought pasta again. Oh, and the wine? Let’s just say my suitcase came back a few kilos heavier, all thanks to “souvenirs.”
BY ANDREA THOMPSON
Then there was that time in Japan where I donned an apron and attempted to master the delicate art of sushi-making in Tokyo’s Tsukiji district. Spoiler alert: My sashimi cutting skills may never make the grade, but I left with a newfound respect for the precision and dedication behind Japan’s culinary heritage – not to mention an obsession with wasabi plus collateral damage of a cut or two, those knives are super sharp!
Culinary-focused travel isn’t just about the food. It’s about connecting with people, culture, and the stories behind the ingredients. Whether it’s rolling up my sleeves for a cooking class in a bustling Moroccan souk or savouring a farm-to-table dinner on a quaint French island, every meal has left an indelible mark on my wanderlusting heart.
So my advice: Follow your appetite. It might just lead you to the most unexpected (and delicious) adventures of your life. Bon appétit!
TASTE AND TRAVEL HUNTING
THE SOCIAL MEDIA-FUELLED
CULINARY ADVENTURE
Eating habits are shifting gears, moving beyond fine-dining into a social media-fuelled treasure hunt.
While a substantial amount of UK travellers agree that food is an important factor in choosing their holiday destination, the trend is evolving and holidaymakers are now crafting entire itineraries around viral dishes and local specialities, transforming everyday meals into shareable epicurean adventures. From quirky convenience store snacks to street food sensations, “Taste Hunting” has become the new frontier for culinary explorers.
However, the phenomenon of social media overindulgence can have significant impacts on these culinary destination hotspots. When a particular dish or location goes viral, it often leads to a surge in visitors, eager to experience and share the trend. This sudden influx can overwhelm local businesses, strain resources, and sometimes even alter the authenticity of the experience. As the novelty wears off and the social media buzz fades, these once-popular spots may see a decline in visitors, prompting food enthusiasts to move on to the next trending destination. This cycle of discovery, overindulgence, and abandonment is driven by the constant search for new and unique experiences to share online.
Social media platforms play a crucial role in making "Taste Hunting" a trend. Influencers and food bloggers often share their culinary discoveries with their followers, creating a ripple effect that turns a local dish into a global sensation. Hashtags, geotags, and viral challenges further amplify the reach, making it easier for people to find and follow the latest trends. As a result, food and travel enthusiasts are always on the lookout for the next big thing, scouring social media feeds, food blogs, and travel vlogs for inspiration. This continuous cycle of sharing and discovering new culinary experiences keeps the trend alive and ever-evolving.
Hotels and restaurants are keenly aware of the power of social media in driving food trends and are making concerted efforts to get on trend. They invest in creating visually appealing dishes that are "Instagrammable" and encourage guests to share their dining experiences online. Collaborations with influencers and food bloggers are common, as these partnerships can significantly boost a venue's visibility and attract a larger audience. Additionally, establishments often host special events, themed nights, and exclusive tastings to generate
buzz and entice social media users. By staying attuned to the latest trends and continuously innovating their offerings, hotels and restaurants can maintain their relevance and appeal in the ever-changing culinary landscape.
The trend of "Taste Hunting" is likely to continue evolving, driven by the dynamic nature of social media and the constant desire for new and unique experiences. Social media platforms, influencers, and food bloggers will continue to play a significant role in shaping and promoting food trends. As long as people seek out novel culinary experiences to share online, "Taste Hunting" will remain relevant.
However, it's also possible that new trends could emerge and capture the attention of food and travel enthusiasts. For example, sustainability and eco-friendly dining practices are gaining traction, and we might see a shift towards "Green Hunting," where travellers seek out environmentally conscious dining options. Additionally, technological advancements, such as virtual reality dining experiences, could introduce entirely new ways for people to explore and enjoy food.
Ultimately, the future of food trends will be shaped by a combination of social media influence, consumer preferences, and broader cultural and technological shifts. While "Taste Hunting" is likely to remain popular, it will continue to adapt and evolve alongside these changes.
In an era defined by endless to-do lists and pervasive burnout, a new travel trend is reshaping the way we think about holidays.
Enter sleep tourism - a niche yet growing movement that prioritises rest and rejuvenation above all else. Forget adrenaline-packed itineraries or partypacked destinations; this is about giving the sleep-deprived the ultimate luxury: uninterrupted, quality slumber.
At its core, sleep tourism is the antithesis of the bustling, go-go-go holidays that many have grown accustomed to. Stemming from the rising self-care movement, sleepfocused travel has gained traction as individuals seek ways to combat modern-
day exhaustion. While the wellness industry often emphasises action - be it intense yoga sessions or wellness workshops - sleep tourism offers permission to “do nothing”. Its appeal lies in its simplicity and profound benefits for mind and body.
Why the sudden buzz? Experts suggest the shift comes in response to increasing burnout. Remote work, constant connectivity, and global uncertainties have left many with sleepless nights. Combine that with the allure of “therapeutic laziness” - a trend advocating intentional unproductivity - and it’s no surprise sleep has become an aspirational goal. People are recognising that quality rest isn’t just about leisure; it’s a pillar of overall health. So, where should you go to indulge in this tranquil trend? Around the world, hotels and retreats have started catering to sleep tourists. For a premium experience, consider The Sleep Suite at Zedwell Hotel, London, offering soundproofed spaces and cutting-edge sleep technology.
Alternatively, The Sleep Retreat at Lanserhof Tegernsee in Germany provides a scientific approach with in-depth assessments and sleep therapies. Closer to home, the Sussex Countryside Sleep Sanctuary blends serene natural settings with expert-guided meditation for the ultimate rest.
What can you expect? Beyond luxurious bedding and darkened rooms, some destinations elevate sleep to an art. Services might include consultations with sleep coaches, spa treatments designed to improve rest, aromatherapy experiences, and even AI-enhanced smart beds. Multi-day retreats often incorporate meditation classes, yoga, and sleep science workshops to help guests achieve sustainable improvements.
Sleep tourism isn’t just a fleeting trend; it’s a reminder that rest is a necessity, not a luxury. As more travellers try to embrace the art of unwinding, this movement is set to redefine how the world takes a holiday. After all, in a world that never seems to stop, there’s nothing more refreshing than truly letting go.

GARY NEVILLE FROM THE PITCH TO THE BOARDROOM
From co-founding the University Academy 92 (UA92) in Manchester to launching successful hospitality and property ventures, Neville’s business credentials are increasingly commanding.
I caught up with Gary at one of his hotels in Manchester – a city he’s invested heavily in – to talk about the challenges facing small businesses, the crucial role of technology, and the mindset needed to grow something meaningful beyond the pitch.
“Let’s be honest,” Gary begins, “it’s hard work setting up a business. Anybody who does it,
I admire – the courage, the risk, the grind. It takes smart decisions, relentless effort, and a bit of luck. Sometimes a lot of luck.”
It’s a typically grounded assessment. And one rooted in experience – Neville has juggled multiple ventures since retiring from football in 2011. He’s wellplaced to observe the pressures facing entrepreneurs, and right now, he says, they’re mounting.
“COVID’s aftershocks are still being felt – especially in hospitality. Add in rising National Insurance, increased employment
costs, and you’ve got real headwinds. Your biggest responsibility as a business owner is your people. But when the pressure’s on, you start cutting in places you shouldn’t.
That’s the danger.”
One of the biggest risks to business, Neville warns, is inertia.
“So many people are sitting on their hands right now – waiting to see what happens with the economy. But that’s not good. You have to keep moving forward. And in today’s world, that means embracing tech.”
Gary Neville is known to most as a football legend – a stalwart of Manchester United and England, a leader on the pitch, and now a respected pundit. But away from football, Neville has built a reputation as one of the UK’s most thoughtful and ambitious entrepreneurs.
He’s frank about the state of digital adoption among SMEs. “We’re still lacking skills programmes, proper upskilling. People get stuck in their ways – they fear the cost or complexity of changing systems. But in the long run, clinging to outdated processes is far more costly.”
At UA92, the university he co-founded, “digital competence” is one of 11 founding principles. “In 2025, you can’t survive in most jobs without understanding tech – from data to automation. That applies in every sector: education, real estate, media, sport.”
While Neville isn’t dogmatic about technology, he’s clear-eyed about its utility – particularly when it comes to reducing admin.
“One of my most-asked questions to mentors is: how do you manage your lists? Your action plans? The endless tasks? Everyone’s juggling a lot – emails, meetings, travel, documents. You can lose sight of what really matters.”
Neville describes a moment with a highly successful business contact: “He pulled
out this old scrapbook – literally hundreds of tiny notes, ticked off line by line. His assistant had a matching sheet. It was brilliant. But for me, moving to digital tools – ones that can sync, be shared, and archived – has been a game-changer.”
Yet he doesn’t pretend to have it all figured out. “We’re all still perfecting it. I wouldn’t say I’m a tech evangelist. But I know enough to see its value. If you want resilience in a business, if you want to scale, you can’t do it with paper trails and memory.”
The government’s Making Tax Digital initiative is pushing more SMEs to adopt e-invoicing and online bookkeeping. Neville sees that shift as long overdue.
“You still see contracts coming through with hundreds of pages to initial. We’ve gone beyond that now. Invoicing, contracts, signatures – these things have to be digital. We can’t afford delays, lost paperwork, or inefficient systems anymore.”
ONE OF THE BIGGEST RISKS TO BUSINESS, NEVILLE WARNS, IS INERTIA.
But again, he empathises with the barriers. “People don’t like change. And unravelling systems you’ve used for decades is intimidating. But you’ve got to bite the bullet. If you don’t, you’ll fall behind.”
Neville’s business life hasn’t been without setbacks. The failed St Michael’s development in Manchester, for example, faced years of delays. But he’s candid about failure being a part of the process.
“If you’re setting up lots of businesses, some won’t work out. It’s a fact. The key is learning fast – not repeating mistakes. Startups are hard. They take time, energy, personal investment. Often people risk their home, their savings, their security. That deserves massive respect.”
Given his glittering football career, I ask Neville how he defines success in business.
“For me, it’s simple. If the people consuming your product are happy – and the team delivering it are happy – you’ve got a great chance of success.”
He’s quick to say profit matters. But passion, purpose, and people rank higher. “It has to be something I care about. Something that means something to the community it’s in.
And I need the team to feel invested too.”
That mindset shapes his approach to everything – from student wellbeing at UA92 to guest experience in his hotels. “If both sides – your customer and your staff – feel supported, you’re on the right path.”
“I’ll always remember when the Vice Chancellor at Lancaster University told me: ‘You do realise there’s no exit?’ That stuck with me. Some of my businesses – I know I’ll be part of them for the long haul. They carry my name, my values. So success isn’t a one-off. It’s about sustaining things – year on year.”
Asked what separates the elite – in sport or business – Neville doesn’t hesitate.
“Talent, yes. But work ethic, even more. The highest performers I’ve seen are obsessive. They’re relentless. They think about their job all day. Everything they do – how they eat, sleep, train – it’s all geared towards performance.”
It’s a high bar. But one he lives by. I end by asking the best advice he’s ever received.
He smiles. “It came from my dad: Don’t look back and wish you could have done more. That’s it. Take the risks. Make the effort. Do the hard things now, so you’ve got no regrets later.”
For Gary Neville, business success isn’t about headlines or exits. It’s about building things that last – and doing so with purpose, resilience, and care. From the football pitch to the boardroom, those values have never wavered.

The evolution of airline food and what’s next SILVER PLATTERS TO SUSTAINABILITY
Airline food has come a long way from the golden age of aviation, when passengers dined on lobster thermidor and sipped champagne at 35,000 feet.
Today, it’s more about efficiency, cost-cutting, and ensuring meals survive the rigours of freezing, reheating, and altitude-induced taste dulling. But as airlines adapt to changing passenger expectations, the future of in-flight dining is set for another transformation.
THE GOLDEN AGE: WHEN FLYING WAS FINE DINING
Back in the 1950s and 1960s, air travel was a glamorous affair, and meals reflected that luxury. First-class passengers were treated to multi-course meals served on real China with silverware, often prepared by onboard chefs. Airlines like Pan Am and British Airways prided themselves on offering restaurant-quality dining, with fresh ingredients cooked to order. Even economy passengers enjoyed decent meals though perhaps not quite the caviar and filet mignon of their first-class counterparts.
THE DECLINE: MASS CATERING TAKES OVER
As air travel became more accessible in the 1980s and 1990s, airlines had to rethink their approach to food. The rise of budget carriers and the need to serve more passengers efficiently led to the introduction of pre-packaged meals. Fresh ingredients gave way to mass-produced, reheated options, and the days of onboard chefs were replaced by catering giants like Gate Gourmet and LSG Sky Chefs. Business-class passengers still enjoyed premium meals, but economy travellers saw their dining experience shrink—sometimes literally, as portion sizes became a frequent complaint.
THE MODERN CHALLENGE: TASTE AT ALTITUDE
One of the biggest hurdles for airline food is the impact of cabin pressure on taste perception. At high altitudes, our ability
to taste salt and sweetness is significantly reduced, making food seem bland. To combat this, airlines have experimented with stronger seasoning, umami-rich ingredients, and even specially designed packaging to retain flavour. Celebrity chefs like Gordon Ramsay and Alain Ducasse have lent their expertise to business-class menus, crafting dishes that remain appetising despite the challenges of air travel.
WHAT NOT TO EAT ON A PLANE
While airline meals have improved, some foods and drinks are best avoided. Coffee, for instance, is often made using water from the plane’s onboard tanks, which may not be the cleanest. Carbonated drinks can cause bloating due to air pressure changes, making them an uncomfortable choice. Alcohol, while tempting, can lead to faster intoxication at altitude and worsen dehydration. Highfat and fried foods can be difficult to digest, leading to discomfort during the flight.
THE FUTURE: SUSTAINABILITY, TECH, AND PERSONALISED DINING
Looking ahead, airline food is set to evolve once again. Sustainability is a growing focus, with airlines working to reduce food waste and introduce more plantbased meals. Advances in food technology could see innovations like 3D-printed meals tailored to individual tastes, while borderless cuisine - a fusion of global flavours may become the norm. Airlines are also exploring AI-driven meal planning to optimise nutrition and reduce waste.
While we may never return to the silverplatter days of aviation, the future of airline food promises smarter, more sustainable, and tastier options. Business travellers can expect menus that balance indulgence with practicality because even at 35,000 feet, a good meal can make all the difference.
BUSINESS CLASS TRAVEL
NOT JUST FOR SERVICE ANIMALS ANYMORE
Traditionally, business class travel has been associated with luxury and exclusivity, catering primarily to human passengers. However, a growing number of airlines are now recognizing the importance of pets in their passengers' lives and are welcoming small dogs onboard in business class cabins.
This shift is not only a nod to the emotional support pets provide but also a response to the increasing demand from pet owners who wish to travel with their furry companions.
WHY THE CHANGE?
The inclusion of small dogs in business class is driven by several factors. First, pets are increasingly viewed as family members, and many travellers prefer not to leave them behind. Second, airlines have realized that accommodating pets can enhance the travel experience for their passengers, leading to higher customer satisfaction and loyalty. Finally, the rise of pet-friendly policies aligns with broader trends in the travel industry, where airlines are striving to offer more personalized and inclusive services.
WHAT TO EXPECT
When traveling with a small dog in business class, passengers can expect a comfortable and stress-free experience for both themselves and their pets. Most airlines require pets to be small enough to
fit in an airline-approved carrier that can be stowed under the seat. This ensures that the pet remains close to its owner throughout the flight, reducing anxiety for both parties. Additionally, airlines often provide amenities such as pet relief areas and special meals for pets, further enhancing the travel experience.
TIPS FOR TRAVELING WITH A SMALL DOG
CHECK AIRLINE POLICIES: Before booking your flight, review the airline's pet policy to ensure that your dog meets the size and weight requirements.
BOOK EARLY: Many airlines have a limited number of pet slots available in business class, so it's essential to book your flight and your pet's spot well in advance.
PREPARE YOUR PET: Get your dog accustomed to the carrier by taking short practice trips before the actual flight. This will help reduce anxiety during the journey.
CONSULT YOUR VET: Ensure that your dog is up-to-date on vaccinations and obtain a health certificate from your veterinarian to confirm that your pet is fit for travel.
