Here are some important things to know: ● Employee contributions for 2019 are limited to $19,000. Employees 50 and over can make an additional catch-up contribution of $6,000. ● Contributions can be made in two ways: ○ Pre-tax: C ontributions are taken from compensation b efore taxes. You’ll pay taxes on contributions (and any earnings) when you take it out in retirement. ○ Roth: Contributions are taken from your compensation after taxes. Since you pay taxes right away, you can take contributions (and any earnings) out (generally) tax free when you retire. ● Your employer may also decide to make contributions to your account.
