Easter season extended with Community Center Egg Hunt by Lori R. Cooper The Blakeslee Community Center held its second Easter egg hunt on April 23. It was gorgeous weather to have fun outside. This is the first year an Easter Bunny was there for the event. Eighty-one year old Maurice Berger (aka “Santa Claus” on Christmas) was in his Easter bunny outfit handing out candy to the children. His wife, Joanne Berger (aka “Mrs. Claus” on Christmas) made beautiful and unique candy to hand out. The email about the event read, “Our eggstended Easter egg hunt is for all ages as we all need chocolate.” There was chocolate shaped as carrots, deviled eggs, bunnies and a crowd favorite, chocolate covered licorice. She also made candy with the Last Supper pictured on it, and beautiful praying hands. The kids collected eggs scattered throughout the backyard of the community center. A raffle was held with 14 gift baskets, including bubbles, candy and a plush Peter Rabbit stuffed animal. Todd and his wife Aby brought their daughters, 5 year old Grace and 1 year old Natalie. Both girls were
excited to gather eggs and eat the delicious chocolates. Board members purchased the eggs, candy and many prizes for the kids. A total of 425 eggs were “hid” around the community center. The Blakeslee Community Center also offers fitness classes every Tuesday. They
recently held a drive for Ukraine and assembled four truckloads of donations. The Blakeslee Community Center is located at 5669 Route 115. Check the website for upcoming events at www.blakesleecommunitycenter.com
Mount Pocono takes action on Pine Hill project by Pat Albano When Mount Pocono Borough Council held its work session on April 19, council finally took steps move the signal project at Pine Hill Road forward. Tim Kramer gave a cost estimate on the Route 611 and Pine Hill signal project indicating “funding could go away if we delay on completing the project. Cost updates are in agreement with PennDOT and some grants are available.” Council member Claudette Williams asked, “ When do we restart the project? We have moved money around and five years later we are still sitting on this project.” Dennis Noonan from Pocono
Mountain Economic Development Corp. added, “Grant funds have been extended and we are told this will be the last extension.” Williams also asked, “If the Borough takes on this project is that considered moving the project forward?” Mayor Randy Altemose added, “I just do not want to waste dollars.” Supervisor Lori Noonan added “This has been a long time coming.” A letter acknowledging this project will be drafted at the next meeting and the hope is that the project will be completed by 2023. Council reviewed a letter of application from Francis O’Boyle for the Zoning Hearing Board and O’Boyle See MT. POCONO, page 9
