More election scrutiny for Kash Heed RCMP investigation alleges he paid campaign workers with public money James Weldon
jweldon@nsnews.com
FORMER solicitor general and one-time West Vancouver police chief Kash Heed is in hot water again this week after documents came to light showing he is once more under investigation for alleged violations in relation to his 2009 election campaign. have your say at nsnews.com
In an October application to search the WVPD’s electronic files and Heed’s Vancouver-Fraserview constituency office, an RCMP investigator claimed that Heed paid two campaign helpers thousands of dollars from the public purse after his election for work that should have been paid for with campaign funds. Sgt. John Taylor, an officer with the RCMP E-Division’s commercial crimes section, alleged Heed signed a cheque for $2,000 that went to campaign worker Sameer Ismail, and one for $4,000 that went to Barinder Sall, Heed’s campaign manager. 3 highrises proposed for Lonsdale/13th Safeway Benjamin Alldritt
balldritt@nsnews.com
EARLY plans were revealed Monday for a major development project that would transform the central core of the City of North Vancouver.
The Onni Group has purchased the lands at 13th Street and Lonsdale Avenue currently occupied by a Safeway, its attached parking lots and two smaller businesses fronting onto 14th Street. The developer proposes to build 204,000 square feet of commercial space in three storeys facing 13th. Above this would be three 180-foot residential towers, holding 411 suites, or 355,000 square feet. The total density of the proposal — approximately 5.6 times the lot area — is more than twice as much as is permitted under the existing official community plan. The height of one of the towers would also require an OCP amendment. See Developer page 3
