Teen girl escapes abduction BY TYLER OLSEN tolsen@chilliwacktimes.com
A
nother potential child predator has struck. For the third time in just over a month, and the fifth time already this year, a man has tried to abduct a girl. The latest incident took place Saturday afternoon near the Vedder River Bridge. A 17-year-old girl was walking alone south of the bridge at about 2 p.m. when a man grabbed her from behind.
RCMP say no evidence to suggest a link to three previous abduction attempts in the past month After breaking free of the man’s grasp, the girl ran to a nearby home and called police. Police are now hoping the public can help with the investigation. RCMP spokesperson Cpl. LeaAnne Dunlop said drivers in the area must have seen the incident. Police are now hoping that those drivers will help them catch the
would-be abductor. The man is described as white, about 40 years old and at least sixfeet tall. He was unshaven, with dark brown hair three to four inches long. He wore a long-sleeve shirt and may be tied to an older green pickup truck seen in the area. “We do know that there is a number of witnesses who saw this that
have not yet spoken to police,” she said. “Their info is going to be very important to us. We need those people to come forward with that information, even if they think the info they have is very, very small.” Dunlop said that there is still no evidence to suggest any of the recent attempted abductions are linked. While the police have received tips
about past incidents, none have led to the identification of any of the men involved. The public should exercise caution when walking in public, said Dunlop. “We obviously are concerned about these incidents,” said Dunlop. “We need members of the community to be aware and be vigilant when they are out in the community.” She said people should not walk alone, nor with devices or headphones that may distract the user from their surroundings.
