Idyllic Self Catering Cottages No matter whether you are looking for a quiet place to stay or a base from which to explore Andalucia, Cantueso can offer you and your family a lovely selfcatering cottage with extensive facilities for children and for those days when you don’t wish to cook, an on-site restaurant serving high quality Spanish cuisine.

Rural Cottages

Our one or two bedroom cottages are built in traditional AndalucĂ­an style with wooden ceilings and furnishings.

Typically they sleep two or four persons and can have a cot or extra bed for a child. Each cottage has a self contained terrace with BBQ. The kitchen is open-plan and equipped with all the usual utensils and tableware. There is also a gas hob and microwave oven. All bed linen and towels are provided and changed weekly. All bathrooms have a bath with shower.

There is a safe for your valuables and smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Heating & Cooling: All cottages have reverse-cycle air-conditioning, which gives cooling in summer and heating in winter. Latest technology makes them very economical to use. Meter cards are used, which means that you only pay for the electricity used. There is also a wood burning stove in the sitting room.

Television: Spanish and UK Freesat television, radio and a dvd player are provided in all cottages.

Laundry Room: a washing machine, iron and ironing board are available in the laundry room.

For families: many items such as cots, high chairs, stair gates, baby alarms and buggies are also available, full details are on our family page.

Wi-Fi Hot Spot: we provide free wi-fi access in all cottages and on the restaurant terrace.

The Apartment A large self-contained, two or three bedroom apartment situated above the Cantueso restaurant and overlooking the whole complex. It was previously the owner’s accommodation and has a private separate access and the benefit of the most wonderful southerly views over Lake Viùuela and on all other sides there are mountain views.

Space to Relax: It has a spacious sitting room and kitchen/dining area leading onto a 12 metre long balcony. The balcony is partly covered to give shade and the rest is open for sun bathing and creates the perfect place for al fresco dining.

Rustic Charm: The sitting room is built in rustic Andalucian style with wooden beams and has a wood-burning stove for cosy winter evenings, comfortable settees, and Spanish and UK Freesat TV and radio, as well as a DVD player.

There is air-conditioning in the bedrooms of the apartment and wood for the log burning stove is available from the restaurant.

Accommodation: The apartment can be rented either with two bedrooms and one bathroom, or with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

2-Bedroom: A total of five people can sleep in the two bedroom, one bathroom apartment (shower, wc, and basin). It has one bedroom with a double bed and two single beds in the other. An extra bed is available for a child up to the age of 12.

3-Bedroom: Seven people can sleep in the three bedroom, two bathroom apartment (one bathroom has basin, wc, bath and separate shower and the second has shower, wc, and basin). Two bedrooms have double beds and the other has two single beds. An extra bed is available for a child up to the age of 12.

Large Kitchen: The fully equipped kitchen has a gas cooker with oven, refrigerator, microwave, toaster and all the usual utensils, crockery and glassware.

Views to treasure: The valley and garden views from the apartment can be seen on the live web-cam as the camera is situated outside the sitting room window.

All bedrooms have valley or mountain views.

In and Around Cantueso Outside in the 18,000 sq/m grounds there are lovely gardens and play areas for all ages with swings, slide, trampoline and a see-saw. There is also a crazy golf course, football field, and most importantly, a swimming pool.

The pool is 12m x 6m and is securely fenced with self closing double

locking child-proof gates, and has an extended shallow end of half a meter, with easy access for children. There are plenty of sun beds and parasols.

The pool uses a salt water generator and although the salt is hardly noticeable it creates a “soft� water effect similar to pure rain water which

is very nice to bathe in. It also means that a minimum of chemicals have to be added to the pool.

And in case this is not enough for energetic children there is also a games room with full size table tennis and darts.

Things to do near Cantueso PerianaVillage: All the usual facilities such as shops, supermarkets, chemist, doctors, dentist, bars and restaurants are available 1 ½ kilometers away in Periana. All around Cantueso there are many cycle rides and picturesque walks, for which we can provide walking routes, and just 20 minutes away there are larger towns and many beaches. We have a comprehensive beach guide detailing the many beaches in the area.

Walking, Birdwatching and Photography in Axarquia: The best time to walk in Axarquia is from spring to early summer and then through Autumn, although there are walks that with care and planning can be tackled in summer and winter. Springtime temperatures, with blossoms and flowers in abundance help to create

walks of breathtaking beauty and interest. We are especially fortunate to have national parks nearby and in recent years there has been much progress made with regard to protection of wild birds and animals not to mention the restrictions on planning and development.

The banning of motorcycles and cars into most areas ensures that the tranquillity is maintained.

Unlike other European countries Spanish maps do not generally show walking routes or paths and when they do, they can be very unreliable. Most useable tracks are those previously frequented by mules carrying produce between cortijos and one of the joys of the area is to stumble upon an abandoned farm with the temptation to pick your own peaches, oranges, avocados, figs, apricots or nuts.

It is interesting to note that even serious European walkers are only just beginning to appreciate what the south of Spain has to offer.

Until recently the region has been largely overlooked and means that in general you will be walking alone and have a wonderful opportunity to visit many unfrequented areas.

Not yet do we have that all too familiar problem in other European countries where popularity has literally worn out the pathways and left tracks looking like dusty motorways.

With children in mind

We realise mum’s on holiday too, and that parents with babies and small children need special facilities. Our cottages are therefore equipped with many baby and toddler items that you would normally bring with you.

As travel costs continue to rise this will save money, and our in and out any day policy means you can take advantage of cheaper midweek flights.

Then for meal times plastic cutlery, low tables and chairs. In fact the cottages have been checked out using a rigorous vetting procedure developed by the Child Accident Prevention Trust.

With Safety in Mind: Inside the cottages have stair gates where needed, and electric socket protectors and of course

families come back year after year because their children like it so much, and just love making friends with different nationalities.

Another important improvement measure TV with English channels has been the enclosing of including Cbeebies of terraces in front of the course! cottages. Our chefs are constantly revising the menu to incorporate the best of local seasonal produce and aim to make your Spanish dining experience memorable.
