REGIONAL SUMMIT: Workforce Solutions in a Child Care Crisis
A crisis that affects everyone. Economic studies show that the absence of quality child care for children under three results in a yearly loss of $5.48 billion in earnings, productivity, and revenue in the State of Ohio.
The Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Great Start for Great Futures Coalition and Groundwork Ohio, invites employers, community leaders and child care experts from across our region to explore innovative, employer and community-driven solutions that support working families and strengthen our workforce including the child care workforce.
The September 9 event will help strengthen connections across Stark and surrounding counties – Carroll, Columbiana, Holmes, Portage, Summit, Tuscarawas and Wayne. Our goal is to create practical solutions that support the workforce, economy, and communities in our region.

Marketing Tips for Professional Services: Five Plays to Go from First Meeting to Signature
For Canton Chamber members in professional services — whether you are a lawyer, accountant, consultant, recruiter, therapist, cybersecurity expert, marketing agency owner, real estate professional, or coach — the most important sales currency is trust. Prospects are not buying a physical product; they are investing in your expertise, judgment, and ability to deliver meaningful results.
To consistently move a relationship from first introduction to signed engagement, you can rely on five proven plays that combine visibility, generosity, and operational excellence.
ACHIEVE SPEED OF TRUST WITH VISIBLE PROOF
1

From the moment a potential client encounters you, they are assessing your credibility. You can speed up their decision by clearly showing your expertise. Share concise bios that highlight credentials, specialties, and experience. Give a brief overview of how you work, including your process and timelines. Present anonymized examples to explain the problems you’ve solved, your approach, and the results, while ensuring your materials comply with your profession’s advertising rules. Making your credentials and results visible helps prospects feel confident moving forward more quickly.
GIVE BEFORE YOU ASK BY HOSTING PRO CLINICS PRODUCTIZE A LOW-RISK STARTING OFFER
Demonstrating expertise before asking for business builds goodwill and trust. Hosting a recurring “Pro Clinic”, either in person or online, gives Chamber members a focused, educational opportunity to connect with you. Structure these sessions as one-hour blocks divided into short Q&A slots. Keep them educational, prepare with a brief intake form, and rotate topics to address timely challenges such as cybersecurity for small businesses, essential contract clauses, or hiring compliance basics. Offer each attendee a simple checklist and a clear next step that can naturally lead to further engagement. This approach positions you as a trusted advisor and often results in future business.
Many prospects hesitate because of uncertainty about results or budget. You can reduce this friction by offering a clearly defined, fixed-fee starter package. This could include an assessment, a set of recommendations, and a prioritized roadmap. Price it to encourage quick decisions and design it to flow seamlessly into your full-scale services. Delivering quick, tangible value builds confidence and makes it easier for clients to commit to larger projects.
Your Chamber membership can be a powerful sales asset if used strategically. Commit to one Tip Club and engage consistently. At Business After Hours, aim to have a few meaningful conversations and follow up within a day. For AultCare QuickConnects, identify key people to meet beforehand, ask thoughtful questions tied to the topic, and share useful resources. Sponsoring Chamber events can raise your profile among target audiences, especially if paired with logo placement, speaking opportunities, and a valuable resource such as a downloadable guide. You can also reach members via paid email blasts or newsletter ads promoting workshops, clinics, or tools, always with a clear call to action.
In professional services, the way you deliver your work can generate as much business as the work itself. Respond promptly to inquiries and proposals to set a professional tone. Standardize your onboarding so each client receives a welcome message, a named contact, a checklist of needed materials, and a simple progress tracker. Gather reviews or share anonymized quotes where regulations allow. Track referrals that result from exceptional service. A consistently strong client experience often becomes your most effective marketing tool.
Ready to put these Five Plays into action for your firm? UB Advertising partners with professional service providers to design trust-first marketing strategies, build reliable referral systems, and launch targeted campaigns that drive measurable growth. Let’s work together to map out a clear, results-driven plan for the rest of 2025, so you can move from ideas to signed clients faster. Contact us to get started.

You own a small business or run a nonprofit and need an employee. You launch a search, spreading the word through friends, posting in newspapers, online job boards, or both. You read résumés. You hold interviews. The process takes time and money.
Your efforts pay off when you hire someone who seems like a perfect fit. Then, far too soon, that person leaves.
The reasons vary:
•Misunderstandings about the job.
•A workplace culture that doesn’t feel welcoming.
•A better offer elsewhere.
•A relocation.
•A shift to part-time work. Some reasons you can’t control. Others you can.

At SCORE, we know that finding the right person is only half the job. Retaining them is just as important. That’s why we treat retention as part of the recruiting process—and we practice what we preach with our own volunteer mentors.
Here’s what works for us, and what might work for you:
Our Retention Process
•Strong Onboarding:
oA formal orientation that explains what we do, when we do it, and how we do it.
o Training that includes shadowing a seasoned mentor before working independently.
oAssigning a veteran member as a guide or coach.
oCompleting an online introduction to our code of ethics.
o Tip: Some organizations use AIpowered onboarding tools to help new hires or volunteers learn policies

•Ongoing Appreciation:
A workplace culture that doesn’t feel welcoming.
oInvolve them in program planning
o Use strengths to shape roles
o Tip: AI can help match people’s skills to the right projects by analyzing résumés, profiles, or past contributions, making sure they’re placed where they can succeed from the start.
•Open Communication:
o Sharing progress toward annual goals each month.
o Holding monthly meetings, sending regular emails, and keeping members informed through our newsletter, This & That.
o Recognizing contributions regularly, both in public and in personal ways.
o Tip: AI can help track milestones, achievements, and anniversaries so recognition is timely and specific.
In short, our process builds a strong sense of belonging. When people feel valued and connected, they’re more likely to stay. And word travels—about your culture, your leadership, and your workplace. What is a Clay Shooting Event?
The Chamber Clay Classic is your chance to enjoy a unique networking experience while trying your hand at a new and exciting hobby. Whether you’re a seasoned shooter or a complete beginner, this event offers a relaxed, fun atmosphere to build connections and break a few clays!
Shooting tips
Train your gun on the clay pigeon as soon as it’s thrown, then pull away and aim slightly ahead of the pigeon’s flight path before firing. Keep the gun moving through your shot.
The pigeon’s flight path will remain consistent, so practice several shots with varying lead times until you hit it.
