2008
On March 6, 2020, the Luck Family honored Dallas Disbro by naming the spinal cord injury rehab facility at the Sheltering Arms Institute “The Dallas Disbro Ability Center” in his name. The Sheltering Arms Institute is a brand-new, state-of-the-science physical rehabilitation research hospital, located in Richmond, Virginia, and will serve those impacted by a spinal cord injury/disability (SCI/D), traumatic brain injury (TBI), stroke, amputation, and more.

Katherine Vendley Lynch and her husband, Chris, welcomed their first son, Christopher Wayne Lynch Jr., on March 12, 2020.
2011
Marissa Deddens and Conor Larkin celebrated getting engaged this spring. Their story began at Cannon School in 2009 and continued while attending the University of South Carolina and starting their professional careers. They are now living in Austin, Texas.

2012
Tyler Carson Leach and her husband, Brendon, welcomed their second daughter, Makena Grace, May 26, 2020. Tyler, Brendon, and Makena are healthy and home with big sister Tatum Marie.
Mason McClanahan Tyler Carson Leach’s daughter, Makena Grace started a new career at Biosense Webster, a Johnson & Johnson company, as an Associate Clinical Account Specialist based in Queens, New York. He will be helping Cardiac Electrophysiologists treat heart arrhythmias during ablation procedures.

Sarah Dockery graduated from Clemson University this past May and accepted a role as a labor and delivery nurse at Mission Health in Asheville, NC.

Carolyn Mitlehner graduated Katie McClanahan ’16 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Education and a B.A. in Sociology and a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies. She will be continuing her education at UNC for one her master’s in Elementary Education. Throughout this program she hopes to continue Carolyn Mitlehner ’16 learning how to foster a positive, equitable classroom culture that seeks to find the strengths in all students, while acknowledging and tackling the systemic injustices that continue to permeate society and the current education system.
Andrew VanWingerden graduated from Duke University this May with an undergraduate degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering and will be moving to Redwood City, CA to work at C3.ai, an enterprise-scale artificial intelligence software company. His job title is Forward Deployed Solution Engineer, and he will be interacting directly with customers to integrate their software product

Allie Bunten got engaged on March 28, 2020 to Luke Miles. They met freshman year more year in order to pursue
University and plan to get married at Langtree Plantation in Mooresville, NC, next summer.
2018
Meredith Haddock, a rising junior at High Point University, is an Admissions Ambassador for HPU and spent the month of July touring prospective students and their families. Meredith is a Dean’s List student and a media fellow majoring in media entrepreneurship with a minor in business sales. She is also a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority and participates in Young Life while on campus.

Ann Shaw Wood Surratt passed on January 30, 2020 after courageously battling Multiple Sclerosis since 1993.
Will Gordon ’15 tied for third place at the PGA’s Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut. This was Will’s eighth PGA Tour appearance, and he entered on a sponsorship exemption and left earning himself temporary membership to the PGA Tour for the rest of the season. Will beat out many wellknown and accomplished veteran players in the process! Vicky Bruce ’12
Tim Bunten ’17 won the Carolinian

As Denmark began to slowly open up from the COVID-19 pandemic, Vicky Bruce ’12 and her professional soccer team, Fortuna Hjørring, made it back league championship at home in Hjørring, Denmark on Saturday, June 27. The tournament continues as they fight to earn The Double, the highest achievement and level of play in Denmark, called the Gjensidige Women’s League.

on the field, taking home the Amateur, a Carolinas Golf Association golf tournament, on Sunday, June 14 at Keith Hills Golf Club with a final round 5-under-par, 67 and 9-under-par, 207 total.
Lansdon Robbins ’18 took home the title at the 106th Carolinas Amateur Championship on July 12, 2020. Lansdon, who currently plays for UNC Wilmington, shot a bogey-free 67 on Sunday at Cape Fear Country Club to finish the tournament at 17-under-par, 271 total.

Harrison Burton ’19 and Austin Cindric ’17 placed first and second, respectively, at the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Saturday, June 13. Harrison earned his second career victory of the season and became the track’s youngest series race winner. Austin was close behind taking home the second place title.

Our community’s tagline, “You Belong Here,” was certainly tested this spring, as we experienced over eight weeks of being apart from one another as the COVID-19 pandemic forced schools across the country to close. However, just because we were physically distanced didn’t mean that our spirit was broken—evidenced here, as Aurora Tran ’29 shares a smile with her third-grade class in a Webex meeting. These challenging months have strengthened our community in ways never imagined, proving that truly…we belong to each other.
