Beyond the Bell Welcome!

Cannon School strives to provide quality after-school Beyond-the-Bell (BTB) programming: classes for our JrK through 8th grade students; private music lessons for our K through 8th grade students; and SAT & ACT Prep Courses for our Upper School students.

Program FAQS Q: When and how can I sign up for BTB classes?

A: You can sign up anytime during the sign-up period February 22 – March 4. Additionally, we accept late registrations before week 2 of a session, if the class has open spots. Please note that class fees will not be prorated. To register, submit the completed registration form on the back of this brochure to the Enrichment Office or go to: https://www.cannonschool.org/cannon-life/beyond-the-bellenrichment-program the BTB page to register online.

Q: What if I want to cancel or change a class in the middle of a session?

A: If your child is unhappy with his/her choice or their schedule has changed, you may cancel a class after the first week. Once the student has attended the second class, we are unable to cancel billing and full payment is required. Please note that you will be billed for the one class attended at the per-class cost.

Q: How do I pay?

A: You can pay by check, cash, money order, or have the full amount billed to your student account. Payments are due with your registration.

Q. How many students are accepted in each BTB class?

A. Each class has its own minimum and maximum number of students.

Classes that do not reach the minimum number required will be canceled and no charges will be applied. Classes will close once the maximum number has been reached, so early registration is recommended.

Session 3 (by day of week) Monday Lego®: Amusement Park Mania Offered by: Bricks 4 Kidz Get your ticket to build your very own amusement park! Students will build a new ride each week, learn how to make things spin, roll, turn and rock. Then they will take what they have learned to create and design their own thrills and challenges. Battery operated, motorized and 3D LEGO® models maximize the action and the fun!

Grades Day Time C ost JrK–K Mondays 3:00 – 4:00 $16/class; $144 total Heroes & Monsters I Offered by: Mad Science “Heroes & Monsters” explores the most amazing parts of science using our favorite villains and some good guys too. From electricity and light, to heat and waves, you won’t be fooled by their tricks after this hands-on science program.

Grades Day Time C ost K-2 Mondays 3:00 – 4:30 $20/class; $180 total Coed 5K Running & Cross Training Offered by: Teresa Schmitt This is a perfect way for our students to become interested in running for fun, training for a 5K, preparing for cross country, or cross training to complement other sports. Students will join Ms. Schmitt for this exciting way to stay fit. Students will run approx. three miles each week - both on and off campus, indoors during inclement weather.

The Chicken Hearted Fox - Drama Offered by: Drama Kids Life on the farm is a lot of work, and a lot of fun… until a family of devious, chicken-craving foxes attemps to break into Giles’ barnyard. The Giles family, and barnyard animals, must now work together to keep these sneaky, lip-smackin’ foxes out of their barnyard! Will they stop the foxes in time or will the foxes’ appetites be satisfied? Young drama students will learn to memorize scripts, how to pretend, and the importance of costumes & sets.

Students must have been enrolled for Session 2 , in order for them to enroll. Performance on Tuesday, May 17.

Dance/Cheer Offered by: Leaps & Bounds Dance Kidz Students will leap into the world of dance, cheer and creative movement when participating with this program. Students learn various dance styles & techniques such as Hip Hop & Jazz styles, along with basic cheer jumps, chants and more.

Performance on Wednesday, May 18.

Super Sports Sampler

Offered by: Kelli Waller Run and jump, catch and throw, swing, and shoot – campers will do it all as they learn and play a variety of games from outdoor games to kickball to basketball. Rules, fundamentals, and plenty of friendly age-appropriate competition will be included.

Clay Creations Offered by: Krista Johns In this class students will create decorative and functional works of art, using a variety of hand-built clay techniques to finish their one-of-a-kind pieces!

These works of art are perfect to keep or to give away to family & friends.

LEGO: Space Adventures Offered by: Bricks 4 Kidz Let’s launch your imagination into outer-space and beyond! Does your student dream of being an astronaut and traveling into space? Each class, students will learn about real-life space exploration and build a new motorized, battery-operated LEGO® model related to the space program as well as 3D LEGO® builds of their favorite space movie characters in this out-of-this-world experience.

Thursday Paper Crafting Offered by: Christiana Holyer What do ornaments, pop-up greeting cards, moving fish, and Chinese lanterns have in common? You can make all of them out of paper! Students will have a chance to learn simple, beautiful paper crafts as well as experiment with their own creative designs. Paper plus imagination produces fun results!

Grades Day Time C ost 1-5 Thursdays 3:00 – 4:00 $16/class; $128 total TaeKwonDo Offered by: Concord TaeKwonDo TaeKwonDo is a life-long form of exercise and self-defense. Students are taught the basics of TaeKwonDo, including forms and sparring techniques.

Students of all levels are welcome.

Grades Day Time C ost 1-6 Thursdays 3:00 – 4:00 $16/class; $128 total Storyland Idol - Drama Offered by: Drama Kids “We’re not in Kansas anymore!” Take a journey with us as a rappin’ mouse, a questionably cute monster, and a wannabe super-nanny fairy attempt to get their “big break” when they audition for STORYLAND IDOL”. Will their hopes of landing supporting roles to other famous counterparts (Miss Muffet, Little Red, and Goldilocks) come true? Drama students will learn to memorize scripts, basic acting, and the importance of costumes & sets.

Students must have been enrolled for Session 2. Performance on Thursday, May 19.

Friday Crazy Running Offered by: Crazy Running of Lake Norman Crazy Running introduces running to younger students through fun and ageappropriate games and other activities. Students will learn form and other running techniques, it’s exercise combined with fun!

Grades Day Time C ost K-3 Fridays 3:00 – 4:00 $16/class; $112 total Chess 101 and 102 Offered by: Dominique Myers Our chess curriculum embraces various skill levels (beginner, experienced, and advanced) and is taught by a U.S. Chess Federationrated and certified coach. Analytical thinking skills and problem-solving techniques are emphasized as a tool for learning. Students will be assigned based on their experience/skill level: Chess 101 is perfect for those new to the game of chess; Chess 102 develops tactical and positional skills.

Princeton Review SAT & ACT Prep Cannon offers the well-known Princeton Review SAT and ACT Prep Courses during the summer as part of Camp Cannon. The pre-test and class dates are posted and available in the Camp Cannon Brochure and online.

Registration for both courses and additional camps opens on February 15, 2022.

Register Online Parents are encouraged to register online for BTB classes for each session. Online registrations have a date and time stamp on them which is useful for popular classes. Please see the link on the Beyond the Bell page at www.cannonschool.org.
