Architectural Soft-Light Fluorescent Luminaires

New Forms. New Applications. In this edition of the Lighting Resource Guide, Alter explores novel ways of integrating lighting into a space with over 10 new luminaires, including TileLyte, Classic OPL, as well as Elegance Wall.

3-lamp TT5, 4-lamp T5

TileLyte Resembling a skylight, this textured lighting element brings pure sophistication to modern interiors. Each recessed 2’ x 2’ square of radiant light is softened by an interior opal film. TileLyte offers endless possibilities for creating luminous ceiling patterns, making it ideal for boardrooms, entrances and other spaces seeking a clean architectural look (p.449). TileLyte installs flush with the ceiling and features easy-to-remove decorative screws and safety chains for easy maintenance.

2-lamp TT5

Elegance Wall Available in 12” and 24” versions, Alter Elegance Wall features the same decorative ridged glass shield as the fully recessed Elegance model, providing opportunities for design consistency throughout a space. Installs vertically or horizontally on the wall, and can be ceiling-mounted to produce unique layouts (p.443).

Visual comfort is assured by Alter’s balanced brightness environment, providing clean ceiling lines and sheilding occupants from direct view of lamp sources.

Long-life, high-efficacy sources include QT (Quad), TT5 (Bi-Tube), TTT (Triple Tube), linear T5 and T8 fluorescent lamps from 17W to 55W. Long lamp life up to 20,000 hours depending on lamp type. All luminaires provide easy access to lamps and ballasts and most luminaires are available with LOL Controls which offers the largest selection of electronic dimmers and electronic dimming ballasts (see dimming information on pages 574-593).

Swing-down optical system for easy cleaning and relamping. The lamp diffuser is made up of a microperforated steel mesh or solid opaque shield and features the non-yellowing soft white film, designed to soft provide the perfect balance between reflected and direct light. white film increases visual comfort by masking the light source from occupants, while letting some direct light filter through. The soft white film and high-reflectance surfaces maintain high luminaire performance.

High-reflectance soft white paint finish provides a soft lighting effect for balanced brightness between ceiling and walls, eliminating typical “cave” effect and hot spots. 2’ x 2’ and 2’ x 4’ luminaires are SEAMLESS welded forms to create a true architectural cove appearance. The curved top and side reflectors are formed together without any gaps or visual barriers. iGen Broadcast-4 Technology

iGEN is a Lightolier brand devoted exclusively to intelligent lighting systems. Its product line includes a variety of Lightolier products including Alter SmartVision, Agili-T Network and other luminaires that incorporate advanced sensing and network features.

PLUG N’ PLAY: All luminaires are factory programmed to be operational right out of the box

Broadcast Control for Alter SmartVision Broadcast control requires no programming of the iGEN ballasts. Dimming messages are sent with a global address from the master Alter SmartVision luminaire to up to 3 Alter slave luminaires equipped with an iGEN addressable ballast (DA). Each ballast receives the same command and responds uniformly. Typical Applications: • Private offices • Small conference rooms • Manual dimming

Power & Control Cable Power Cable

The Broadcast-4 SmartVision sensor is integrated with the luminaire to control up to four ballasts. In addition to single-luminaire control in cubicles or small offices, the sensor can uniformly control multiple Alter luminaires. The master must be an Alter SmartVision luminaire equipped with an iGEN Smart ballast (suffix DS). The slaves must be Alter luminaires equipped with an iGEN addressable ballast (suffix DA).

Motion Sensor

People are out of their office 40% of the time. Lightolier designed an integrated motion sensor which sends a command to the luminaire to turn on when movement is recognized and turn off in absence of movement. • 30% of added energy savings (tested average). • Factory settings are programmed to shut off luminaire after 20 minutes of absence of movement. • The sensor has a 90° cut-off angle of vision. • The optional Broadcast-4 Programmer wireless remote control (catalogue number : IGEN-BR-PROG) can modify the following factory settings - Modify shut-off delay time. - Program sensor settings to initially dim luminaire to low level after a determined interval and then proceed to shut off luminaire after a second programmed interval. - Disable auto-on and auto-off settings.

Light Sensor 60°

Integrated light sensor gradually dims the luminaire as ambient light varies to give a constant level of illuminance on the work plane. • 15% of added energy savings (tested average). • Sensor can dim luminaire to complete shut-off or can be set to maintain a minimum level of luminance from the luminaire. • Dimming curve is factory programmed to maintain adequate light levels of 40-50 f.c. on the workplane. These settings can be modified with optional Broadcast-4 Programmer. • A minimum distance of 4’ is needed between two sensors. • The sensor has a 60° angle of vision (will not function properly if a window is within this 60° angle).

Wireless Luminaire Control The optional Broadcast-4 Controller is another innovative tool from Lightolier which encourages the user to always apply proper lighting levels to maximize energy savings. (catalogue number : IGEN-BR-CONT) • 10% of added energy savings (tested average). • This remote can turn luminaire On, Off, Dim up, Dim down, enable and disable the automatic light sensor.

GENESYS The photometry featured in this brochure is also incorporated into the electronic database of our GENESYS II lighting workstation. GENESYS II permits the selection of products by generic description and the calculation of a wide range of lighting applications, using the stored photometry. GENESYS II can calculate irregular spaces, including partitions, and rapidly render lighting effects. Project management and documentation are just a few of the tasks that GENESYS II makes simple.
