A warm welcome to this year’s Prep Schools’ Swimming Gala event. We are looking forward to some competitive races and hope all the swimmers enjoy the challenge.
Swimming takes place in all three terms at Canford, with the summer being traditionally the main competitive one. The six lane 25m state-of-the-art indoor pool also provides opportunities to experience water polo, scuba diving and recreational swimming. Our pool is also the training base for local clubs and schools including Swim Bournemouth and Poole SC.

Sport Vision
“Our programme looks to give all of our pupils the chance to explore the opportunities that sport offers, allow them to express themselves through their physical wellbeing activities and facilitate those who wish to excel in their chosen path. The aim is to inspire a generation of Canford pupils to achieve their potential in sport and to promote their physical wellbeing throughout their lives.”

OC Robbie Hemmings stands out amongst our performance swimmers at Canford. His list of achievements is extensive, and his accomplishments whilst at school included lowering the 17+ Age Group Record in the 200 IM in the British Championships in Sheffield in April 2021. He was selected for the British Team for the European Junior Championships which took place in Bucharest, Romania in 2022, and he also took part in the Senior British Swimming squad at the FINA World Cup in the same year.
Robbie was selected for the 2023-2024 World Class British Swimming programme and is now reading Biomedical Sciences at the University of Bath. An amazing set of achievements and we wish Robbie all the best for the future.
