Hua Quan Village A remarkable cultural experience awaits you at Hua Quan Village. Located in the heart of Jiangxi province in Eastern China, Hua Quan Village is nestled into the countryside near Longhu Mountain, known to be the cradle of Taoism and one of China’s most remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Immerse your creative self in art and culture. With over 50 acres to call home, this thriving art village includes museums, open studios, and one of the largest collections of outdoor murals in the world. Discover the artist in you through classes in painting, ceramics, calligraphy, and more.

Hua Quan Village has created an educational center equipped with 21 studios and a wellness and culture park.

We offer experiences such as the ancient practices of yoga, tai chi, meditation, qigong, and acupuncture.

Art and Culture Center Hua Quan Village celebrates Chinese and international art and nurtures cultural exchange. The art village is committed to welcoming students of all levels and backgrounds to immerse themselves in Chinese culture and learn from our amazing team of artists and teachers who strive to share their passions with the world.

The village has partnered with a number of schools both international and domestic to offer students a safe and immersive educational trip. At the village, there are over 20 resident artists and teachers including our visiting artist in resident picked from a different country each quarter.

Resident Artists To support the local and international art community, Hua Quan Village has established a resident artist program.

There are close to 20 artists and craftsmen that have established their studios and galleries at the village.

The village of Hua Quan is lined with these studios and galleries where these artists can display their work. Come explore the stunning works that these masters have created, learn about their craft, experience their classes, and take some time to witness them create.

Miracle Mural Project An innovative idea; a beautiful inspiration, “The Miracle” complies the creative artwork of muralists from around the world to form 100 murals along the walls of Hua Quan Village.

Artists were asked to depict what a miracle means to them. Find a mural that resonates with your idea of one of life’s miracles, taking time to appreciate and value even the smallest things in life. Take a moment to listen to your heart’s call. At Hua Quan Village we believe that this single moment of resonance will have a deep and long-lasting impact. When we experience this total transformation of the heart, then we can come together as family and friends to make this world a better place.

Julian Beever Street Art Exhibit

Chinese Art Museum

Julian Beever is known all over the world for his 3D pavement drawings. Julian, visited Hua Quan Village in 2019 and created several stunning masterpieces in a dedicated exhibit.

Porcelain was invented in China over 2,000 years ago and this brilliant discovery has forever left its mark on the world of ceramic arts. The Ceramics Museum tells the history of different types of ceramics and covers the long history of its development.

It was here in Jiangxi province where artists acquired much of the Kaolin clay required to make porcelain.

In tribute to China’s porcelain heritage, Hua Quan Village displays the masterpiece of modern ceramic artist Zhou Guozhen and ceramics by Chinese arts master Zhang Yuxian.

Over 200 breathtaking paintings of quintessential China are on display at the Chinese Art Museum.

Contemporary Chinese artists have successfully captured the spirit of the place in their 21st century style of painting.

Thanks to generous donors, this private collection is now available for viewing.

Local Culture Ancient traditions come alive at Hua Quan Village. Experience Local Life Chinese Medicinal Herbs The temperate forests in the area are out of reach from urban pollution, they create a unique growing environment for rare Chinese medicinal herbs. Along with experts, visitors can explore the forest to search for, pick, and learn about these indigenous herbs.

Dinner with Local Families Learn about Jiangxi food culture and try regional cuisine with local families in their homes. Catch a glimpse of their everyday lives and prepare dinner together.

This is both a rewarding and intimate opportunity for guests looking to immerse themselves in the local culture.

Community Service Afterschool Painting Collaborate with local students to paint a final piece together. Hua Quan Village provides the neighboring schools and students with an opportunity to come to the village to take art classes, guests can take classes with these students and help them finish their pieces.

Experience Local Life Community Farming Have you ever considered what it takes to be a farmer? Work with local farmers to learn about how they supply produce to the region. A few highlights:

CULTURE

Winter bamboo shoots are buried underground and must be found and dug out unlike the spring bamboo shoots which reveal a small horn above the dirt.

Although machines are now used in the region, some farms have inaccessible lands and still use plows pulled by oxen.

Rice seedlings grown in a nursery are pulled and transplanted into puddled and leveled fields 15 to 40 days after seeding.

It is a common Chinese tradition to harvest the Gardenia flowers before the annual Dragon Boat Festival and to use the flowers for various dishes.

Dendobrium flowers are versatile and used by the local community to make salads, juice, tea, soaps, and even Chinese medicinal mixes.

A food staple for the Dragon Boat Festival, zonzi is a dish of glutinous rice containing various meats and vegetables wrapped in a triangular tea leaf. Learn the proper methods for making this dish from locals and help them prepare for the festival!

This Chinese dish is made from mugwort leaf and glutinous rice and shaped into rice or dumplings. The regional specialty is eaten both at the Qingming Festival (tomb sweeping day) and at the end of the Dragon Boat Festival.

Chinese Cultural Museum This interactive museum highlights a selection of key discoveries that have shaped China’s 5,000 year old culture. An emphasis on selfcultivation has been an underlying theme throughout China’s great literary, philosophical, religious, and societal traditions. The museum places an emphasis on how Chinese culture can complement and enhance our modern civilization by bringing back the ancient wisdom of the sages.

Liu Jia Chang Records Museum

Y. C. Wang Memorial Museum

The records museum celebrates the musical creations of Hua Quan Village founder, Liu Jia Chang. Having written over 2,000 songs throughout his lifetime, Mr. Liu is often referred to as the “Godfather of Music” in Asia. As the only recipient of 3 lifetime achievement awards in China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, Mr. Liu has produced records for some of the most famous pop stars of his time. This museum displays his earlier vinyl records as well as his modern day hits.

This memorial museum honors legendary entrepreneur and philanthropist Mr. Y. C. Wang. With humble beginnings as a rice farmer, Mr. Wang founded one of the largest plastic empires in China. Despite a life full of challenges, Mr. Wang’s ingenuity and perseverance earned him the title of “God of Management.” He often said “In this world, there is nothing that comes easily, but at the same time, there is nothing that is unattainable.” It was by this philosophy that he lived his life and exemplified his strength and wisdom.

Wellness & Culture Park Yoga House Master Pan began teaching yoga in Shanghai, today he has over 12 years of experience as a master yoga instructor. He brings incredible knowledge and prestige to Hua Quan Village. Now a regional yoga trainer and instructor, he teaches Sivananda Yoga and systemic yoga fasting.

Yanwu Zen Hall

Master Shi Yanwu is the 34th generation disciple of Cao Dongzong of the Shaolin Temple. He is one of the most respected warrior monks in China and he has integrated the Shaolin Kungfu stunts he has mastered into his Zen Buddhism practice. He opened the Yanwu Zen Hall to share health exercises and meditation to anyone willing to accept his teachings and improve their lives..

WELLNESS

“Shang Han Tang” Chinese Medicine Health Center Peng Shang has degrees in both Chinese and western medicine. Peng is a sixth-generation successor of Shang Han Tang Taoist Medicine.

After five years as a practicing physician, he began reflecting on western medicine’s numerous issues such as the propensity to alleviate symptoms rather than eliminate the root cause of an illness. His diligent research focused on the severity of the side effects and the harmful effects surgery has on qi—the flow of energy throughout the body.

He has combined aspects of both western as well as Chinese medicine into his practice. Shang Han Tang has dedicated his time to Hua Quan Village since October, 2017, and is one of the most sought after health practitioners for healing arts.

Education There are over 21 classrooms in Hua Quan Village’s art and cultural center. Visitors can explore their passions and interests through a full range of classes taught by the premier artists and professors that currently reside in the village. A diverse experiential program, the classes are designed to incorporate theoretical knowledge with practical and applicable hands on approaches. The instructors teach students of all levels and can customize any course to the level and interests of the students as well as the class duration.

Longhu Mountain Hua Quan Village is located close to the sacred Longhu Mountain. It is part of the remarkable China Danxia landforms, preserved as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site and recognized as a 5A Level Tourist Area.

The mountain range is known for its steep red sandstone cliffs. Taoists believe that thousands of years ago during the Eastern Han Dynasty, Zhang Daoling, a Taoist Celestial Master came to the mountains to create the elixir of immortality.

Longhu Mountain is credited as the birthplace of Taoism. Among the mountains are ancient sites— cliff burials, Taoist temples, and beautiful scenic areas to relax and unwind .

Longhu Mountain Luxii River Bamboo Rafting

Cliff Tombs

Enjoy the peaceful Luxi River on a traditional bamboo raft. Pass through stunning scenery and more than 100 mountain peaks over a 3.5 kilometer stretch of river. You’ll discover rock formations that resemble dragons, tigers, and turtles and see ancient cliff burials.

There are nearly 200 coffins dating back 2,600 years lodged into the cliff faces of Longhu Mountain. The tombs are an archeological museum and thus have attained worldwide fame. No one has been able to determine exactly how these coffins were placed into the mountain faces. However, the park provides a live show exploring different possibilities.

“Dreaming of Longhu Mountain” Light Show China’s first dynamic large-scale landscape performance is not to be missed. Hosted by the famous Yang Lan and directed by the well-known Chen Wei, the stunning 3D light show uses the mountains as a backdrop, the Luxi River for a stage, and the cliff face as a screen! It takes place on a fairytale-like set that the audience is invited to walk through and interact with. The 90 minute production involves more than 300 performers. Taoist culture and folklore are skillfully integrated into the show.

Longhu Mountain Plank Hike Embark on an adventure! This highaltitude, 3 kilometer path winds up and around the Danxia landforms offering stunning views to visitors. Hiking along the dramatic cliffs of Longhu Mountain is the best way to explore on foot.

Ancient Taoist Towns The ancient town of Shangqing was built upon the water in the heart of the mountains. The town is rooted in Taoist culture and contains many historical sites with unique architecture. The main street is 2 kilometers long and lined with various significant historical buildings to visit.

Shangqing Palace After several generations of renovations and expansions, Shangqing Palace is now one of the largest Taoist temples in China.

Originally constructed during the Eastern Han Dynasty, legend tells us that this is the magical place where Taoist Celestial Master Zhang Daoling made pills of immortality and where the gods received their official ranks. The structure shows the unique style and architecture of Taoist temples, which is especially apparent in the roofs and doors of the buildings.

Tianshifu Tianshifu covers an area of 50,000 square meters and has a building area of 14,000 square meters. Built during the Northern Song Dynasty, it was in this ancient Taoist complex where the Heavenly Masters lived and made sacrifices to the gods.

Visitors can stroll through the beautiful courtyards and winding streets to admire the ancient Taoist sites.

Zhengyiguan During the Eastern Han Dynasty, Taoist Celestial Master, Zhang Daoling led his disciples into the Yunjin Mountain (now “Longhu Mountain”) and to begin building an ancestral home. Scholars from all over the world would come to visit this site. The current “Zhengyiguan” was reconstructed in the original site according to the Song Dynasty architectural style. It is a symbol of the Taoist ancestral court.

Hua Quan Village has designed a series of bicycle and jogging routes that stretch over 14 kilometers to Longhu Mountain and the neighboring villages.
