2017 Cancervive Ride: Our energy is contagious, Cancer is not! By Lyndle Haagner

T

he Cancervive Awareness Ride is described by many as the ride of a lifetime, and 2017 was no different as over 60 enthusiastic Cancervivers took to the open road to spread their educational message of hope and triumph over cancer to thousands of South Africans. Now in our 7th year, we achieved even more record-breaking results! During the 10-day motorbike ride our powerful educational message reaching more than 10 000 people face-to-face, as we travelled a staggering 2370 kilometers across Gauteng, Eastern Free State and the Northern Cape. This year’s show was also bigger and better than ever before and our entertainers and survivors made

magic on stage as they entertained, danced, sang, engaged and educated audiences with hair-raising performances, gripping educational speeches and touching stories of survival. We focused strongly on providing education on methods of early detection, knowing one’s body and being aware of the signs and symptoms to look for. By openly addressing the ‘shy’ cancers, we were able to abolish the many myths and social stigmas surrounding them. During the 2017 Ride, we also had the pleasure of being joined by some of our generous sponsors. As words often don’t do justice to the incredible journey we embark on each year, it was a privilege to have them experience first-hand what the Ride is all about. A big Cancervive thank you

to all our sponsors – SPAR, REVLON, Triumph, Mercedes-Benz, The SABC Foundation, Netcare, Interscope Technologies, Macprop, Astral, PLWC, TST, Novartis, Clientèle, KEU & Centriq and Spacebox. We are also incredibly proud to announce that since our inception in 2011, we have officially touched the lives of more than 260 000 South Africans face-to-face, in 7 languages, covering more than 18700 kilometers across all 9 provinces of SA! We have also reached millions more via various media channels (TV, Radio, Online, and Print) and generated over R270 million in publicity. Reflecting on the 2017 Ride, there is no doubt that those whose paths we crossed, will remember our message for decades to come!
