Crafty group seeks volunteers ‘Tweedle-muffs’, needle felting and cheerful handmade decorations will soon be on the cards for the people of David Harper House at Goodwin Aged Care Centre, Monash. Local Crafty Frog business owner Laura McKinnon is on the lookout for volunteers who would enjoy crafting and chatting with Goodwin residents, once a month, at the Tuesday morning craft group. Goodwin Activities Coordinator Nicole Mitchell said they are always looking for volunteers and are keen to encourage people who can assist with activities. Volunteers are required to undertake an induction and a police check. Another way volunteers can help is by making tweedle-muffs. Members of the Erindale Library knitting group have already created some beautiful tweedle-muffs, which are brightly coloured knitted hand warmers with various textures. Donations of materials for the craft activities, such as sparkly wool, would be welcomed. Anyone interested in volunteering can contact Ms McKinnon on 6296 6240.
Go dry in July Dry July, the fundraiser that challenges Aussies to go booze-free for a month to support people affected by cancer, is now open for sign-up. When someone is diagnosed with cancer, it’s hard to find the time or energy to think about anything other than treating the cancer. Dry July raises money to ease that burden, reduce stress and add a bit of comfort throughout the cancer journey. People can sign up or donate online at dryjuly.com
