Impact Report

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Medium Project Stream 2023 distributed a total of $537,000 in funding to 19 Indigenous youth-led projects through grants of up to $30,000. Creation received 58 proposals from 9 provinces and territories, representing a funding request of $1,681,190.
Grantee projects funded through the Medium Project Stream 2023 focused on supporting youth in strengthening connections to their cultures. Project leaders incorporated cultural teachings into land-based and arts-based programming, capacity building opportunities, and wellness activities. These activities also contributed to opportunities for intergenerational relationship building and fostered connections between youth, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and other community leaders. Throughout their projects, grantees faced challenges with limited youth capacity because of factors like community grief and environmental disasters.
Grantees highlighted flexibility and collaboration as essential tools for navigating these challenges. They shared that co-creating programming with youth participants and community members and being flexible with their scheduling enabled them to run their projects while prioritizing youth wellness and capacity. This collaborative program design also facilitated the creation of safe and inclusive spaces, which contributed to increased youth confidence and youth empowerment, and helped to foster a sense of community. As a result, grantees in the Medium Project Stream saw success in strengthening connections to culture, building community, strengthening connections with the land, and enhancing overall youth and community wellness.

Seeing the confidence and cultural pride grow in our Youth as they learned and created was profoundly moving. This project has not only taught them about art but has given them tools to express their stories and ensure their voices are heard. Thank you, Creation, for making this possible.
—Justin Langan, Project Leader and Métis Youth

A vital piece of advice to other youth based on our experience: engage deeply with your community. The support and knowledge within can transform personal and collective aspirations into tangible outcomes. Listening and adapting to community needs were key to our project's success, and maintaining this flexibility and respect for community input can significantly impact any initiative.
