I hope everyone is having a productive and pleasant fall up to this point. I know the grass situation in some parts of the province has put producers in a spot where they are feeding cows earlier than intended to. Fortunately, there has been some late summer/fall rains which is positive for most as the pasture situation would be significantly worse if the rain never came. It has allowed many producers to be able to keep their pairs on pasture longer and hasn’t led to as many calves being sold early as initially thought. As we continue to see record prices on feeder cattle it will be interesting to see what happens to sale averages in the seedstock market this fall and spring with their being more cash flow for producers. This is the most optimistic the industry has been in the 21st century and I’m extremely happy to see that beef producers especially in the cow calf sector are reaping the benefits of this current market. In MB, this last June we hosted the Canadian Angus Convention which was held in Winnipeg at the Fort Garry Hotel. We had producers represented from across the country and based off all the laughs, visiting and good discussions I would say the event was a success for the province. Thanks to all that participated and thank you to all those that helped make the event a success.
We recently had our Jack Hart Memorial award interviews and I’d like congratulate Carson Baker as our 2025 recipient for this great award. Carson is currently our MB Junior Angus president and it’s also very fitting as Carson’s family was very close to Jack Hart back in the day and Carson got to grow up around Jack. Wishing Carson all the best with selecting a heifer this fall.
The MB Angus annual meeting will Nov 21 in Brandon at Section 6 Brewery at 6:00 and hope you are all available to attend. I also want to recognize our new editor for the Outlook Ella Wright and wish her all the best with this new role and look forward to seeing her spin on the Outlook going forward.
Cheers,
Devin Boitson MAA president

Donated by Wraz Red Angus, Brylor Ranch & Camo Cattle Co. Reg #2271897
The 3 of us own the dam to this great young and now deceased powerful phenom called Moon Pie.
So in turn at one time we too owned the bull before he sold to Rohrich Cutting Edge Red Angus of North Dakota and Cockburn for $95,000. So we have a limited amount of owner’s semen on him qualified only for CDN use (unless a USA buyer has cows at a CDN flushing center). If not for this great Junior Incentive program for the kids at the Magic Sale to use on a female we have not sold any other semen on the bull from our own personal inventory. This was our agreement before the bull sold and we have honored that fact!! Could we have sold some ? Absolutely !! The demand is certainly there as a few straws have been released in the states for up to $4200 USD per dose!
His first sons topped all bull sales they were in and a couple daughters last fall sold for $47,000 USD and one at TOC for $45,000. Incredible. THIS OFFERING MAY NOT HAPPEN AGAIN SO BE IN THE ACTION ONLINE ON FRIDAY NIGHT ON DLMS DECEMBER 5TH.

The 18th Annual Manitoba Youth Beef Round-Up was held August 1-3, 2025, at Stride Exhibition Place in Neepawa, Manitoba. This may be the Best Manitoba Youth Beef Roundup ever held with a record number of enthusiastic Junior Cattle Producers (109) and largest number of Cattle (122 head) to date. Sadly, we had to turn some juniors away and some cattle as we were packed full.
Committee members consist of: Co-Chairs Lois McRae, Jake Rawluk & Laura Horner; Dalyse Robertson, Ken & Kerri Hinsburg, Blair McRae, Rilla Hunter, Albert and Michelle Rimke, Megan Kemp, Lana Kraus, Mary-Jane Orr, Kara Thompson, Bobbi Jo Foster, Jolie Bootsman, Sadie McCauley and Gracie FalconerBertholet.
The success of this event is attributed to not only the teamwork of the committee members but also the hands-on assistance of parent volunteers, jumping in whenever and wherever necessary. Our judges for the weekend were Denver Bolton and Nolan Glover, Wawota along with Bevin Hamilton, Lakeland College.
Friday events kicked off with the ever-popular Ag Challenge & education workshops that include showmanship, grooming, marketing, livestock photography, & leadership.
Saturday began bright and early with judging workshops facilitated by our three cattle judges. The evening concluded with group members competing in the cook-off, where each group was provided with a steak and was required to prepare a meal for two discerning judges› evaluation.
Sunday was show day. It began with showmanship and conformation followed, a parade of 4-H Champions, and the Supreme Show. The weekend concludes with awards and supper. A large crowd attended the weekend events.
Special thanks to all our Sponsors and Volunteers who make this event possible. These skills are preparing our Livestock youth with lifelong skills and friendships in the Beef Industry. SEE THE FULL PRESS RELEASE , photos and results at www.mbyouthbeefroundup.weebly.com

Thanks to Manitoba Angus for asking me to introduce myself as your sitting Canadian Angus Association Président. I along with my family operate Pugh Farms on the Battle River north of Edgerton Alberta. I have served on the Alberta Angus board for two terms with multiple years as president and have sat for one full term on the Canadian Angus board and started into my second term with last year being my first year on the executive.
Working as a Director and now as the President I have had many opportunities to interact with our membership across the country. Through this interaction we have been able to provide direction for the Association as well as develop strategies that continue to keep the Angus breed as a leading breed in both the purebred and commercial sector. We continue to provide member driven tools and opportunities to our membership as well as the continuance of maintaining the ever growing registry. We are in the process of updating our database to further the services of registration to the membership and we are excited to roll out the new system. We have been able to acquire a new office. I want to thank the boards of past years for building a foundation in Angus Central which has allowed us to sell our existing infrastructure and be able to move into our new office without the added expense of a mortgage.
I have enjoyed serving the membership and volunteering my time and continue to ask any members to contact myself or any of the directors with questions anytime.

HLanie Muir year as the Canadian Angus Foundation
Robert C. McHaffie Junior Ambassador
BY Lainie Muir
ELLO EVERYONE, and happy fall! My year as the Canadian Angus Foundation Robert C. McHaffie Junior Ambassador came to a close in June at the National Convention in Winnipeg, and it couldn’t have been a more incredible year.
To recap on where the year took me in North America - Ontario for 2024 Convention and 2024 Showdown, Saskatchewan for the Canadian Beef Industry Conference, Agribition and GOAL Conference, Alberta for Farmfair, Ohio for the Certified Angus Beef Youth Beef Leaders Seminar, and Manitoba for Youth Beef Round-Up and the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair along with some other small-town shows, as well as 2025 Convention.
The pinnacle of my year was certainly the Zoetis Youth Competition at the World Angus Forum held in Australia at the end of April and into May. Here, 12 teams of angus youth from across the world gathered in Sydney and trekked through New South Wales and Queensland for the 11 days that followed. Contestants hailed from Canada, USA, Argentina, Ireland, England, Scotland, New Zealand, Australia, and Indonesia. Our skills and character were challenged in every way you can think of. Challenges encompassed meat judging, business case studies, mock interviews with an activist, showmanship, fitting, pen sorting, written and show-ring style judging, debating, and social media advocacy. A wide range of practical farm skills were also included; from fertilizer calculations, to disease management, preg checking, water system assembly, fencing, vaccine administration, and DNA sample processing, among double as many more stations that tested technical and tactical skills.
The conditions were perfect for forming rock-solid friendships. 5 AM mornings were often followed by hours on a bus, and the days went late. Whether it was due to working on your debate until 2 AM, diving into conversation with those you met earlier that day, or because camping at Foxbar Falls plans fell through, due to lack of shelter and bedding, and you troubleshoot into the night to avoid sleeping on the ground with the snakes.
Australia knows how to host! It was incredible to learn about the scale and style of Australian agriculture, see so much of the landscape, and get a feel for the land that angus cattle have to work in down under. The foot quality of the cattle was especially impressive. I couldn’t be more grateful for the experiences and friendships gained. I am very excited to stay connected with the people I met as we settle back into our roles in the angus industry in our own parts of the world!
My time as Junior Ambassador developed my time management, collaboration, communication, leadership, and critical thinking skills. Through it, I have travelled places, met people, and learned things I would never have imagined possible. If you came up to the 13-year-old homeschooled girl in 2016 who had purchased 2 purebred black angus heifer calves, carryingnext to no livestock experience with her, and told her what would be possible a handful of yearslater, I’m not sure she would’ve believed you.
I have felt so much gratitude and continual enthusiasm for being a part of an industry backed bytalented, passionate, and good-hearted people over the past year. We are incredibly fortunate to fall into the agricultural community that we do.
It’s wild to think that my time as a junior has come to an end, but I am very much looking forward to where I’ll fit into the beef sector and Canadian Angus family next. Over the next 8 months, Iwill complete my undergraduate degree in Soil Science, convocating in June 2026. Following that, the plan is to get back into the day-to-day of Crossing Angus in Glenella and start my MSc. in Soil Science remotely with the University of Saskatchewan.

It’s been an honour to share my experiences both over the last year as Junior Ambassador, as well as from the busy years on junior boards that came before. I hope that I can serve as an example for those who are coming up next in our province of what is possible if you are eager.
Now and looking forward, if you have questions or curiosities about any of the opportunities offered by our provincial and national associations, please don’t hesitate to pass them along to me!
Thank you all for following along, and above all else for your investment in me.
Here’s to what’s next!
Lainie

The 2025 World Angus was held this past April in Australia. Manitoba Angus member Lois Mcrae shares the highlights of their trip downunder!
On April 25, we boarded the airplane in Vancouver, BC heading to Sydney, Australia for the World Angus Forum 2025.
In the past, we have attended the World Angus Forum: Edmonton 1985, Calgary 2009, United Kingdom (England and Scotland) 2017 and now in Australia 2025.
After the 17-hour flight, we took a couple of days to adjust to the time change. We toured Red Angus herds in the area, Sydney Harbour, Sydney Opera House and many more attractions in the area along with meeting up with an Australian friend who had spent time with us in Canada. Sydney has a population of 5.5 million people, and their average temperature in fall is 15- 25 degrees Celsius.
Day 1- The Pre Tour of the World Angus Forum began with a relaxing boat cruise around the Sydney Harbour with drinks and snacks. While on the cruise we admired the Sydney Harbour Bridge which is the World’s Tallest Steel Arch bridge which is 3,770 feet long and 440 ft height which was constructed from 1923 -1932. Earlier that day, the Juniors from across the world did the Bridgeclimb which takes 1332 steps to reach the top. Fun fact: More than 5000 couples have got engaged while Climbing the Bridge.
The cruise was the meeting place of 270+ Angus producers from around the world and the local Australian hosts for the weeklong pre tour. Angus breeders from Canada, United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Germany, France, Denmark, Poland, Lithuania, New Zealand , Austarlia and South Africa were in attendance.
Day 2- The first challenge was to get all 270+ people organized and boarding the 6 Greyhound type buses. We were all given the color of bus on the side and stayed on this bus the whole tour, it was extremely well organized with tour guides on each bus.
First stop, Sunny Point, a family operated business with 3000 acres. A Paddock to Plate Operation who marketed their Angus Beef at the family owned Mawhood IGA Supermarkets. Lots of history in the Angus cattle business was presented as we were served a home-grown Steak Lunch. Next stop, Mayfield Gardens. 15 hectares to walk around and enjoy the beautiful fall colors of the trees and plants. To end off the day, we stopped at the town of Orange. Orange is a rural centre which lies in the heart of New South Wales with very rich Agricultural land. Supper was at a local winery in Orange.
Day 3- Today was full of Angus herd tours. The Australian’s have two separate Associations, so the World Angus Forum

was managed by the Black Angus breeders. For 30 years, Karoo Angus have run 300 Purebred Black Angus Females and 800 Commercial Angus females. An amazing group of sound functional Angus Cattle and extremely well displayed. The long yearling bulls for their upcoming sale and many productive Angus pairs were on display. They spent a lot of time and effort in pasture management, and we were given the opportunity to learn more about this program. A tasty Steak Sandwich and lots of warm hot chocolate and coffee were served along with lots of dainties. It was a very cool day.
Off to the Bathhurst area, one of Australia’s oldest inland colonial settlements due to the discovery of gold in the region. Very elegant, historical buildings in the town. Our evening stop was at Millah Murrah Angus. A family run operation, Millah Murrah has raised some top Black Angus genetics selling a bull in 2021 For $ 280,000 and their 2024 bull sale 123 bulls average $27,277 in Australian dollars. Many of their genetics are used in Australian and New Zealand Black Angus programs. We capped off the day by walking to the top of the hill on the farm and watching the beautiful Australian sunset.
Day 4- At Bathurst our hotel was on the Racetrack where they raced little sports cars. We toured the track on the bus and viewed Kangaroos enjoying the sun in the center. Two Rivers Winery was a local restaurant that served local produce in the area. A very tasty meal of Steak or Chicken was enjoyed by all. This was a long day of travel on the road to Tamworth. Lot of Australian scenery and a few wild animals and lots of very windy roads but did get a good idea of the landscape in that area of New South Wales.

Along with the cattle displays were many retail booths from semen companies, fencing, cattle supplies and more.
The Zoetis World Angus Forum Youth Competition was very busy at Tamworth with Showmanship, Judging, Fitting and Debate competitions to name a few. The two Canadian teams of 4 excelled in the Judging, Fitting and Showmanship events. Our very own Manitoba Junior, Lainie Muir did extremely well in the competitions.
The Female Genetics Auction sale drew a huge crowd in the arena. The top female sold for $ 134,000. 24 lots averaged $ 22,875. CHECK OUT THE PHOTO OF THE SALE RING BELOW!

Day 5 and 6 – This was for sure one of the highlights as we were able to view 400 head of Black Angus and a few Red Angus all in extremely impressive facilities. The facilities were absolutely stunning with steel panels, covered wide open barns and bright well designed show ring. The producers had gone all out on their displays of cattle and promotion material.
Close to 4000 people toured the Angus cattle in those 2 days. For food at the event, food trucks came in and served Australian Angus beef in many forms at no cost to the crowd. They were very tasty and much appreciated by us all.
Day 7 – The third generation of the White family runs Bald Blair Angus established in 1908. They were one of the original herds when the Angus Society formed in 1919. Along with some top-quality Angus cattle we ere treated to a Collie Working Dog Workshop and Cattle Handling competition with the Juniors.
Off to Rangers Valley Feedlot, they are world class producers of long fed, Verified Black Angus, Wagyu cross and Fullblood Wagyu beef in the New England area. As one of the top 10 feed-

lots in Australia, their goal is to achieve marbling and a consistent product for the consumers for domestic and export markets. Their beef is sold as Black Onyx (the Marbled Beef) website is rangersvalley.com.au. This was a very professionally run feedlot and extremely clean pens and cattle.
Final stop of the day was dinner and a tour at the CED Wise ET Centre. They roasted a ½ of beef on the spit for us along with many interesting facts on Embryo Transplant in Australia.
Day 8 – A tasty Breakfast at the Echo Valley Farm that raise Field to Fork : Eggs, Beef and Pork. On the property was an historic Australian home that was interesting to tour.

University of Queensland Catton campus, stop included tour of livestock, crop and pasture management techniques.
Off to Brisbane, Australia for the meetings of the World Angus Forum including many top-notch speakers and industry displays. Special thanks to everyone at Australian Angus and World Angus Forum committee for their hospitality and well organized event.

Very early mornings to board the bus and late nights with all the travels but this was a tour of a lifetime. We would highly recommend if you get the opportunity to attend one of these World Angus events, go you will thoroughly enjoy it. You meet many new people from all over the world and learn about their cattle and country. The next World Angus Technical Meetings is in Brazil in 2027.
To end off our trip, we spent a week in New Zealand visiting Angus herds and friends. Many great memories.
Lois and Blair McRae.
