Hard– work, determination and passion for service have been how I make a difference in my community. Motivated by hard work to advance my visions to improve human health. Growing up, my parents encouraged me to never fear challenges, instead tackle it through strength and effort. So, I began to prepare myself by getting an education, skills and training so that I may give back to the community. Stimulated by determination to create a vision, I pursued a career in psychology. I realized my life's purpose is to help others. I often times find myself engaging in rescue efforts, doing charity work, and getting to the heart of the issue, as a way to assist people to better him or herself. Obligated by dedication to maximize my potential, as an athlete in grade school, I learned how to push myself and acquired the important quality of being a team player and a leader. This strength and devotion earned me the opportunity to play sports on a collegiate and semi– professional level.

After high school, I chose to higher my education and attend college. I enrolled in Tallahassee Community College where I gained an Associate's Degree in Biology with honors in 2015. Americans today often believe that hard work should always result in a well–earned reward, often saying "hard work pays off". But what if the reward was the work itself, which according to Ralph Waldo Emerson beliefs is true. Although some might see this as a false claim there is some truth to it but there are multiple factors, one being if you actually enjoy the work you're doing, like if you're working at your dream job compared to a fast food chain you would often find that when working at your dream job the hard work its own reward because you would enjoy your work more compared to those working at the fast food restaurant which is not. For me personally I find this true because of all the significant examples that back up my claim. One example being when I was little; I was at a young age where there wasn't much to do; although there were videogames that provided me with temporary satisfaction. So, exploring my backyard through boredom, I found a shovel which I used to begin digging a hole. For some reason every time I scooped some dirt off the ground it felt satisfying. I did this to the point where I hit rock bottom and continue so I dug another hole, which began to repeat over and over. My dad noticed this and began to plant some trees and plants, which later resulted in fruits and beautiful flowers. Although some might think that the flowers and fruit were the reward it had seemed to me that the actual digging was the reward itself. In addition, another example would be when at school I am given an assignment with more difficulty in completion of that assignment I typically find myself feeling more satisfied with the actual work than the reward. So overall, I would say what I also found myself learning that it is that when the work is something you enjoy doing the work typically is its own reward. Now I'm going to start to focus on jobs because that is where hard work is most involved. A good friend of mine has a great connection to this topic; he had two jobs one working at Chick–Fil–A it was a good experience, but he would have definitely would have liked to get a paycheck instead of hard work. The next job and his current is a job he got at Methodist, he enjoys it a lot because he gets to help

Work For It Some people sit back and think about how good of a life they have, while others are wondering why they are constantly feeling like they are at a disadvantage. This is what Namit Arora, discusses in his essay "What Do We Deserve?" He often thinks to himself, "How much of my good life do I really deserve? Why me and not so many others?" (Arora 87) and what he means by this is, why is it fair that he receives so many rewards in life when others are struggling to pay the bills. Well I completely agree with him; not everyone is going to have the same rewards in their lives because of many different factors including family background, genetics, environment and so on. However, while one might not start off as wealthy or intelligent...show more content...

One may have to work a little harder than another because of a certain setback such as gender or race, however with that extra push, they could come out even more successful than anyone else. It all comes back to the common phrase, "you get what you work for." So when it comes to letting everyone having equal liberties and letting the amount of work that they put in determine their success, than I think that it is a completely fair model of justice. Continuing with the idea of people believing that it is unfair how the upper class has more advantages in life, this bring us to the "meritocratic model" which is the model that "recognizes inequities and tries to correct for socioeconomic disadvantages" says Arora (Arora 87). This is the system that is related with the United States (Arora 87) and the reason that most people believe that this model is fair is because people with low incomes or with fewer benefits are offered programs such as the Headstart program and subsidized healthcare. Doing this would help out the needy and put everyone at somewhat of an equal place in life. However thinking deeply into the idea of these programs, they are not entirely fair from everyone's point of view. For example, some people are born with something that Arora refers to as the "natural lottery" which is described as "people who are born with certain talents and attributes– for instance, oratory, musical acumen, physical beauty and health, athleticism, good memory and

In daily life the term personality is very freely used by people with different meanings. Some people refer to the physical appearance like height, weight, color, body built, dress, voice, etc. Some other people refer to intellectual qualities like intelligence, activeness, way of speech, thinking and reasoning abilities, etc. However our psychological definitions tell us that personality refers to individual differences in characteristic patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving. The study of personality focuses on two broad areas: One is understanding individual differences in particular personality characteristics, such as sociability or irritability. The other is understanding how the various parts of a person come together as a whole. Emotions are the intense feelings that are directed at someone or something. I have never thought of what my personality is, so when i was asked to write an essay on what my personality was it was just a great task for me to writing about my personality. Which is more important, talent or hard work?. Other people refer to this question as Nature vs. Nurture (Taylor). Throughout the years there has been debates about the topic and it will go on in the future because of different beliefs and thoughts that people have. This argument can be compared with democrats and republicans, some believe one thing and the others something else. Hard work always comes out on top of talent because of the time and dedication a person utilizes to work hard and get to a high level of skill and knowledge.

Hard work, also known as nurture, is commonly defined as environment and experience. Nature is something that you naturally have within you, such as certain skills and abilities that you can do and others can 't, which is difficult to find people who can do certain abilities and skills. Even though people can develop skills and even a talent from working hard, It is very difficult for them to reach a certain level of skill. Past generations used to believe that talent and stars were born not made, but that belief has been drastically changed by the people who worked hard every day to reach their goals (Krakovsky). The ones who worked hard to get to a high level, did not only learn one skill they learned many others along the way whether it was a mental skill or a physical skill(Shanks). There is only a few bad sides to hard work, one is that if you work too hard in a physical activity, you can get hurt and that can can slow you down or even

Hard work is a key to Success (ESSAY) "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard" Hard work is the key to success. To succeed in life one must endure the challenges life presents and work to overcome these challenges to be the best possible person that one can be. We must not only use hard work to impress those around us but also to achieve goals that we set for ourselves. If we as individuals do not work hard to succeed, then we do not receive the same satisfaction as we would if we put in hour upon hour or even year upon year of work to achieve our goals. I believe for one to be successful, he must be willing to work hard to succeed in any aspect of life. "Great thing come from hard work and perseverance"...show more content...

The secret of success, as many people will agree, is hard work. Evidently, successful people are admired in the society. In many instances, they make headlines in the mainstream media. However, such people are not many in the society. Many people still struggle to achieve their goals in life. Others give up, all together, when they attempt without success to achieve their goals. Simply, many people are unable or unwilling to engage in hard work for them to be successful. "To succeed, work hard and never give up and above all cherish a magnificent obsession"

Many people give up when they do not feel like pursuing their goals or when they experience setbacks at the initial stages of a project. For instance, many people trying to lose weight may not see the results within the first few weeks of rigorous exercise and dieting. At this stage, unsuccessful people will give up. On the other hand, hardworking people try to find ways of solving some of the setbacks– instead of giving up. More so, they put in more effort even when they realize that have slim chances of winning. "Dreams don't work unless you Get

It was upsetting to part with it at the end of sophomore year but it was a decision that has ultimately been better for me. I have been able to get involved in more activities like student athletic training, key club, and volunteering. As a student athletic trainer, I have learned a lot about all different types of sports and their injuries. I focus on football and wrestling, primarily because they seem to have the highest amount of injuries. During football season, a group of students and I travel with the football team to their games and take care of minor injuries (cuts, bloody noses, etc.) while assisting the athletic trainer with more serious matters. During wrestling season, I travel to all the matches and usually end up dealing with bloody noses and other small injuries. While athletic training is not what I wish to peruse a career in, it is something that has taught me a lot of valuable information. After my cheerleading career ended, I began volunteering at the Hunterdon Medical Center to build my resume for college. At the same time I started working at a restaurant in Kingwood called Ginny's 941. I have been working there for a year and I could not have had a better experience with a first time job. "Talent is cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work," (King). As Stephen King said, simply having a talent is commonplace in the world today. Whether it is incredible artistic ability, impressive grades, skill at a particular sport, or even kindness, every person has a feature that sets them apart. However, this natural ability does not guarantee success in any field. Ultimately, it is hard work that will lead you to a successful lifestyle, even with the advantages held by those with natural abilities. Developing skills in the areas that you have interest in will ensure your prosperity, regardless of where you start, as demonstrated by author J.K. Rowling and her characters in Harry Potter.

The best way to achieve success is by developing and expanding upon a particular skill. Benjamin Franklin wrote in Poor Richard's Almanack, his collection of aphorisms, about this very topic: "Genius without education is like silver in the mine" (Franklin 147). If silver in a mine is not discovered, what good will it do anyone? In the same way, natural born genius will only benefit the world if it is continuously filled with knowledge and allowed to grow. If you fail to develop and improve any skills that you possess, regardless of what they are, it is as if they never existed. Other people are fortunate enough to have the same talents as you; if they put in more effort, they will excel. Even if someone does not

It's common to think that hard work is the key that will help people move up in the world, and that is true for the most part. However what is one supposed to do when there's a roadblock that is difficult to overcome? There are factors that may all together or by one at a time cause someone to not achieve that pay that wish. Due to education and wealth, discrimination, worker abilities and monopoly power, the opportunities of equal pay isn't always obtainable to workers. First factor of income quality, not every citizen has the best education they can get for that high paying job, and not many has the funds to get that job they really desire. In our world, not everything can be as fair for those who strive for success. Consider this, many people start at working minimum wage which is about nine dollar an hour. For one waitress addressed in a PBS news article by Paul Solman, that one waitress only earned $2.13 an hour before taxes. It is stated by many who are struggling with minimum wage that it is not enough to live on. As the cost of living increases, the minimum wage becomes insufficient in covering bills and cost. As a result of this situation, there are inspiring students who are unable to go further with their education and move up in life. Being stuck near the poverty line creates a situation where as much as those workers desire to progress in their career, insufficient funds and the lack of education keeps them from doing so as many higher paying jobs require

Success literature going back hundreds of years espouses the benefits of hard work. But why is it that some people seem to feel that "hard work" is a dirty word nowadays? I define "hard work" as work that is challenging. Both hard work and "working hard" (i.e. putting in the time required to get the job done) are required for success. A problem occurs when people think of challenging work as painful or uncomfortable. Does challenging work necessarily have to be painful? No, of course not. In fact, a major key to success is to learn to enjoy challenging work AND to enjoy working hard at it. Why challenging work? Because challenging work, when intelligently chosen, pays off. It's the work that people of lesser character will avoid. And if...show more content...

Hard work is something you look forward to because you know that it will lead to tremendous growth. And you eventually develop the maturity and responsibility to understand that certain goals will never just flow into your life; they'll only happen if you act as the driving force to bring them to fruition. When faced with the prospect of saying to yourself, "If I always avoid hard work, I'll never in my life get to experience X, Y, or Z," it's a little easier to embrace the benefits of hard work. What will you miss out on? You'll probably never run a marathon, marry the mate of your dreams, become a multi–millionaire, make a real difference in the world, etc. You'll have to settle for only what going with the flow can provide, which is mediocrity. You'll basically just take up space and die without really having mattered. The world will be pretty much the same had you never existed (chaos theory notwithstanding). If you want to achieve some really big and interesting goals, you have to learn to fall in love with hard work. Hard work makes the difference. It's what separates the children from the mature adults. You can keep living as a child and desperately hoping that life will always be easy, but then you'll be stuck in a child–like world, working on other people's goals instead of your own, waiting for opportunities to come to you instead of creating your own, and doing work that in the grand scheme of this world

Qualities that Define a Hard Working Person What qualifies a person to be categorized as a "hard worker". He/She would have to be willing to do the work, and not only do it, but do it right. Efficiency, things such as showing up on time, and getting the job done in a decent amount of time. A person would have the knowledge to be able to do their work. Just as the cell is basic for life, being efficient is the basic factor of all hard workers. This is extremely important, it ties in with the other factors of the hard worker. Does this person have the right skills to perform the job? An example I can think of is when I worked for a rental company. When I turned 18 years old, my employers told me I had to get my class E drivers license. Now this might not sound like a big deal but it was because if I did not get it within five days of my 18th birthday I could not come back to work. The only way to get to work again was to pass the test and bring a verified copy. This is a skill I had to obtain to work this job. Other such skills required of me was that I had to know how to pull trailers behind trucks, work on and with heavy machinery such as bucket lifts, tractors, lawn mowers, and other such types of equipment. A knowledge base should not only contain the skills needed to do the job but also some common sense. I say this meaning problem solving skills. For example if an engine is not running this is how I would go about trying to make it run, my problem solving method. Remembering what I had been told about engines needing three basic things,(fuel, oxygen, and fire) first I would check the gas, this sounds very elementary, but it is amazing how many people don't look at this. If this turns out not to be the problem, next I would check the oil. Another of many simple things that people tend to over look. The third thing to check would probably be the spark plug. Now granted these things are very simple but it is a good way of showing problem solving methods. The

I asked, "why the stress"? They responded, "We feel that he does not appreciate all the hard work we are already doing." I responded; " Remember when he allowed all the flexibility and sharing ideas in our own pace setting strategy?" Yes, they said, well if you are having a difficult time understanding why you arefeeling the way you are feeling; you need to communicate that with the leader and find a better solution, so you are not feeling unappreciated. Some corps members say that teaching is the hardest thing they've ever done. There are moments when plans don't work out perfectly and where, despite having worked extremely hard, you might not feel good at your job. What concerns do you have about taking on this experience? I have had to learn the hard way that sometimes you are not immediately the best at a new skill or activity. This has been a very formative and constructive experience for me as I have had to learn the meaning of hard work for the sake of personal betterment, a skill that I believe is lacking in many young people today. I was not always the beststudent, best athlete, or best at a given activity; however, you could be guaranteed that I would be the hardest working. I have no doubt that challenging moments will arise in which I might momentarily doubt my abilities, but I trust in my fortitude and persistence that I will work to get better and be better for the sake of myself and my students.

As you know, our corps members teach in predominantly low–income communities. What experiences (in life, work, volunteering, etc.) have you had that could inform your success teaching in low–income communities?

I grew up, excuse the clichГ©, without two pennies to rub together. I know what it means to be a low–income student because I am and was one throughout my life. In today's society, many kids are pushed to do well in life and told to work hard so that they can accomplish the best for their future. My dedication to my education began at a very young age when I started to read before even entering kindergarten. As time went on, school became more of a challenge. Throughout my high school career, I have spent most of my time focusing on my academics. When I was approached in 8th grade about what I planned to do for classes in high school, I did not take the easy way out. While other students selected classes such as gym or art, I chose to take a different path. Since I chose to make these decisions, I have become a very dedicated, scholarly, and hard working student. Due to these characteristics, I have been able to accomplish many other goals in life, such as pushing myself to learn multiple musical instruments, competing for all conference in track and field against girls twice my size, and receiving leads in many theatre productions. All of these achievements were reached due to the skills I learned while pushing myself to do better throughout my academic career. In the future, I will be able to better achieve my goals and aspirations as a result of my successful years in high school.
