LUXURY REDEFINED

About: This semester long project required us to fully design a large-scale hotel in an international setting. The luxury hotel will be 8 stories high, located in the London Borough of Wandsworth. In order to design this hotel, I was first required to study the details of the location’s culture, economy, architecture, community, and potential clientele of the hotel. After determining all of the above through the pre-design process, I then began to build every element of the interior of the hotel in Revit and render all of the following views.

The design of this hotel was defined by the idea of “enchantment”.

Due to the borough’s high economical standing and reputation, an elegant and regal design will be used to connect the hotel to the surrounding community. The use of elements from Romanesque, Neoclassical, and Rococo architectural styles will be strategically utilized to create a castle-like design.

The use of bold colors and strong materials will create for a fascinating experience that guests will be enchanted by.

First view a guest will we see when they enter the hotel. Symmetry and mass scale represent Neoclassical elements that initially introduce the regal design that is featured throughout the rest of the hotel.

Elevation of the cafe area directly next to the lobby. Large arched windows allow for an abundance of natural light to enter the space while also bringing in elements of the Romanesque architectural style.

This tea room is a more private and secluded area as each table is fixed with a chess board so that guests can stimulate their brains while sipping on their tea or coffee. The board games act as positive distractions for those who wish to take their mind off of any external stressors they may be enduring.

This is the main bar area directly off the monumental stairs on the second level. The custom gold ceiling feature illuminates the room while adding a modern touch to the space.

Duke’s Steakhouse acts as a fine dining experience for guests to enjoy at the ease of their own hotel. Gold chain dividers in between each booth give guests a higher sense of privacy without completely secluding them from the rest of the space.

The self-serve wine lounge provides a more intimate and romantic space with dim lighting and deep maroon tones featured on the walls and seating. Each center panel is cut out to create a glass casing for European statues that act as an art feature and continue to connect the space to Europe’s regal vernacular.

The king suite bedroom utilizes a bold use of color and materials that help give guests an enchanting feeling during their stay. The intricate detailing on the walls and ceiling bring in elements from the Rococo architectural style that uphold the high sophistication and elegance in the design.

The king suite bathroom provides a sleek modern design paired with traditional European elements like the ball-and-claw feet on the freestanding bathtub. The custom casework also provides tucked away storage for towels and belongings to help reduce clutter.

A PLACE OF HEALING

About: In the semester long duration of this project, I was given the outer shell of a building and was required to design and build the interior walls and ceilings, along with choosing and modeling FF&E, rendering the space in full, and creating a clear design concept for users to experience when navigating the space. As this was my first project in healthcare design, I learned the importance of sustainable and durable materials that maintain functionality while in this setting.

The design embodies the Latin phrase, “Semper ad meliora,” meaning, “Always towards better things.” Many people entering this space will be enduring different levels of stress and anxiety, so designing a space built on the premise of hope will help put their minds at ease when in the clinic. This concept will work towards relieving any additional stress or overwhelming feelings in which doctors, patients, and caregivers may be enduring. Those within the space will feel restored through a sense of hope that they are headed towards a better wellbeing. Together, these elements will help those in the space feel a promise towards a better future.

AN OFFICE TO THRIVE IN

About: The intent of this project was to design an office space for the headquarters of LaMar’s Donuts & Coffee in an office building located in Denver, Colorado. In order to create an on-brand and productive workplace environment for the company I was assigned, I needed to research the company’s history, values, employee satisfaction and overall dynamic of their stores. Given only the outer shell of the building, I was required to design the interior of the space, including interior walls, FF&E, custom millwork, and all renderings.

The design of this office space was intended to bring members of the LaMar’s community closer together to create a more cohesive environment among employees. Natural elements bring a sense of calmness to those in the space which helps to remove any stress caused by the daily requirements of work.

Incorporating the company’s branding color, royal blue, not only acts as brand advertisement, but also serves as a color that insights productivity among the workers in the space. The workplace highlights the longing traditions of LaMar’s Donuts and Coffee, while maintaining a modern and inclusive overall design.

THE BLOOMING PLACE

About: This project asked us to identify an underserved Tallahassee community, then offer a hypothetical design that would enhance their social, mental, or physical wellbeing. During the brief, 3-week duration we had to complete this project, I worked with another student in my class to create The Blooming Place -- a rehabilitation center for women who have been subjected to sexual assault or domestic violence.

About 1 in 4 women are sexually assaulted within their first four years in college. This shocking statistic influenced our decision to create a safe space in which women can seek refuge during times of hardship and need. Because Tallahassee is home to two major college universities, we felt it was vital for the community to have access to this type of facility that not only provides refuge for women, but also contains educational components for all members of the community to spread awareness of the realities of sexual assault and domestic violence.

About: This is a digital rendering of the entrance to Reynolds Hall on Florida State University’s campus. The goal of this project was to visit the site where this dormitory is located, retrieve all the exact measurements of the entryway by hand, and re-create the scene digitally, using solely AutoCAD. A brief description of the history of the hall was also required.

This project allowed me to extensively familiarize myself with AutoCAD and perfect my skills using the software. I also gained experience in retrieving exact measurements in a real world setting and converting them to a digital scale.

REYNOLDS HALL

REYNOLDS HALL IS A DORMITORY THAT WAS CONSTRUCTED IN 1913. IT WAS NAMED AFTER THE FIRST LADY PRINCIPAL OF THE FLORIDA STATE COLLEGE FOR WOMEN, MELISSA REYNOLDS. THE BUILDING WAS RENOVATED ON THE INTERIOR, BUT KEPT THE HISTORICAL EXTERIOR LOOK AND REOPENED AS A RESIDENCE HALL IN 1966.

SMALL SPACE DESIGN

About: This scaled-down 15’x15’ maquette represents a loftstyle living space for a college student. Given solely the parameters of the space, I was required to build a model at scale using foam core as the primary building material.

The goal of this project was to utilize as much space as possible for functional uses like storage or workstations.

I learned the difficulty of designing for small spaces and how important it is to make use of every empty space. I also gained experience in building 3-D models by hand, learning the importance of good craftsmanship and attention to detail.

MODERN RENAISSANCE

About: In the short, 3-week duration of this project, I was provided solely the exterior walls of a building and was required to create and design a functioning jewelry store. I had to look at this project from a marketing standpoint, in order to create a retail space that customers would want to visit and return to time and time again. This project was intended to be relatively conceptual, so I wanted to push the limits of what I could transform this retail space into. Overall, this project taught me how to better work under a time constraint and apply factors of brand advertisement and retail design strategy, in order to make the space more appealing to customers.

This jewelry store is a high-end space inspired by the art and architecture of the Baroque and Rococo styles. The concept for this design is based on the notion of empowerment, which is brought to life through the presence of confident red and bold black and gold metals. The inclusion of classical European statues and ceiling murals adds a sense of modern elegance to the space.

This design creates an environment that customers feel important in, and as a result, a space that customers will want to return to.
