Celebrating the Life of
Larry Ivan Woods Larry was born on August 20, 1942 in Belwood, Ontario. The young family moved west to start farming in the Edberg community when he was two. Larry married his high school sweetheart Marilyn Gustason and started their family with Les, Susan and Brad. Marilyn was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in 1978. Larry was a natural athlete. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing baseball in the summer months and curling in the winter. He later developed a passion for the game of golf, which he continued to enjoy for the remainder of his life. Larry also loved the farm – first at the family farm and later with his father Ivan, custom combining in the USA grain belt and, most recently, employed by the Brockoff family with their grain and gravel operations. The Oil and Gas Industry was also a part of Larry’s life, working initially for Adeco and then later as a tool push for Precision Drilling. It was during these years, he met Laura MacRea and her son Dan Willcock. Larry and Laura married in July 1982 and together they enjoyed many adventures including living for a short period in both Mexico and on the coast of southern BC. They parted company, but remained friends and kept in touch until Larry’s passing. In 2000, Larry met Maureen Vachon. Together, they found companionship and spent the summer months camping at Bashaw Golf and Country Club where they enjoyed golfing and visiting with family and friends. Larry passed away on September 16, 2017. He was precedeased by his wife Marilyn and his parents Marjorie and Ivan Woods. Cherishing his memory are his children Les of Edberg, Sue (Darren) Wiberg of New Norway and Brad (Carol-Ann) of High River; grandchildren Alanna, Erica, Logan, Rachel, Cassie, Marissa and Reese; great-grandchildren Teagan and Tristan; sisters Patricia (Lloyd) Odegard of Camrose, Kaye (Stephen) Innes of Edberg and Colleen (Randy) of Bashaw; and many nieces and nephews.
In loving memory of

When the rain falls and everything looks beautiful, We miss you. Every day, every hour, in every way, in everything we do, We miss you. Forever loved, Mom, Dad, Ryan and Devin
August 25, 1923 ~ October 4, 2017 Oliver, the eldest son of Owen and Josie Batke, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 4, 2017 at the Louise Jensen Care facility in Camrose after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his daughters Joy Batke and Judy Jackson; two sisters Charlotte Bakke and Vi (Rod) Madison; brother Ken (Eva) Batke; six grandchildren Mike, Marc, Vince and Brad Batke, Sean Jackson and Corey Gerber; nine great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Vern Ross and family; dear friends Nikki and Ted; and many other family and friends. Oliver met his wife Gladys (Ross) and they married in 1923. Gladys died four days short of their seventieth anniversary. My Dad, with his wry humour, might have said to us now, while reading the obits that he did every morning, “It pains me to admit, folks, but I have passed away. Everyone said it would happen, but somehow I thought I’d survive.” Dad, you embraced life and we were all lucky that we got to know you. It is difficult at best to honour my father in words as it is futile, but there are many memories to share. I remember my Dad and Mom were the best dancing couple on the dance floor; everyone would stop to watch them. It must have been all the barn dances they attended. One of my Dad’s favorite sayings was, “It will all work out”, and he was always right – it did. In all the times my Dad and I played checkers, I beat him only once in my entire lifetime only because I figured out his strategy, but then he changed it. Dad was too smart to let me outsmart him. He kept me on my toes. Dad was humble, well respected and a great storyteller. There was never a dull moment with him around. Oliver started out farming on his Dad’s farm in the Albury and Kelsey areas, however, he had to go where the work was and became a resilient Renaissance Man who did many jobs including working as a milkman. With his charming personality, he excelled working as the Store Manager for the Co-op stores in the Peace Country for many years. He enjoyed his family, friends, faith, gardening, nature, his birds, horses, wildlife and getting out to fish. He believed in working hard because if his grandparents and parents worked through the hard times, then anyone could. You couldn’t keep a good man down. Oliver was predeceased by his wife Gladys, his son, infant daughter, two brothers and two sisters. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with Brett Quartly officiating. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are greatly accepted in his name to his two favourite charities: St. Mary’s Hospital Palliative Care Unit in Camrose, AB and the Bear Valley Rescue Group (horses) at Box 19, Site 6, RR2, Sundre, AB T0M 1X0.
