Maurice Berry cont’d. Maurice was very passionate about life. He had many friends and enjoyed being with them. When Maurice set his mind on something it was done and it was done big! That was evident in everything that he pursued such as antique collecting, Avon bottle collecting, flower gardening, woodworking and Maurice Harper painting. Berry Left to cherish his memory are Maurice was born in his children: Anne (Vince) Flynn Daysland on December 31, 1925 of Camrose; Dean of Red Deer; to Chester and Margaret Berry. Ross (Ron Roberts) of Toronto; Maurice and his five brothers Doug (Joyce) of Edmonton; four and sisters grew up on the family grandchildren, Lindsay Flynn, farm northeast of Daysland. Free session on managing diabetes at Daysland Aug. 23 Local residents working to manage pre-diabetes and Type 2 diabetes are invited to a free Alberta Health Services (AHS) information session. Diabetes The Basics is a six-hour group session offered by AHS professionals who share their expertise, provide information and encourage discussions that can help participants better manage their condition. The session is offered to people at risk of developing diabetes, as well as those who have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes or Type 2 diabetes. Melvin Fredrick Wiberg Beloved husband, treasured father and adored Grandpa, Melvin (Mel) Fredrick Wiberg (June 9, 1922 – August 8, 2013), went home to heaven at the age of 91. Mel is survived by his dearly devoted wife, Lillian; children Marlene (Rob) Pollock, Dale (Heather), Doreen (Darcy) Thompson and Colleen; grandchildren, Shane (Danielle), Jessica, Daniel, Alec (Tara), Angela (Devon), Vaughn, Erin, Colby (Melanie), Travis, Dallas, Mitchell and Danielle and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brother Les (B.J.) and sister Vina Vanouck; sisters-inlaw, Elaine and Elsie; brother-inlaw Harvey (Mildred) Pederson. Mel was predeceased by his first wife, Irene Tweten and infant son Doug as well as siblings, Jessie, Lewis, Irene, Leo and Ralph. Mel was born at Duhamel Alberta, June 9, 1922 to Jennie (McGovern) and John Wiberg and resided there all his life. After a stint in the Air Force and jobs mining and logging in B.C., Mel received a phone call that his father had been killed in a tractor accident. Mel came home and took control of the family farm to help his mother and to help raise his younger brothers. It was also about this time that Mel realized he had a problem with alcohol and attended his first AA meeting in the back room of a local café in Camrose. Recently Mel celebrated his 56th AA birthday and remained active in AA, until the end of his life by the grace of God. Besides his passion for AA, Mel loved all sports especially fastball and hockey. He coached all of his children in softball. He and Lil enjoyed dancing and their many trips to Las Vegas. He was a gentle giant and had a soft heart for all of God’s creatures including his loyal dogs Nigs and Cooter.

Melvin Wiberg cont’d. While we mourn our heavy loss, we are confident we will meet again. Our beloved Mel is home to glory, safe in the arms of Jesus. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. from the Camrose Church of God (4722 55 Street) with Rev. Gary Mize officiating. Interment will take place in the New Norway Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Alberta Cancer Foundation or the charity of one’s choice. Al Harrison Al Harrison was born February 18, 1925 in Princeton, B.C. Al passed away on August 6, 2013 at the age of 88 years. Al joined the army in 1942 and fought in WWII. After returning from overseas he met Edna and they were married in Enderby, BC, on December 7, 1946. To this marriage four children were born. Al, Edna and children lived in several places in BC, and Alberta, but they finally made Camrose their home in 1986. Al was an active Lions member for over 40 years, making fellow club members his circle of friends. He enjoyed camping, golf, fishing, long Sunday drives and the company of his family. Al will be missed by his wife of 66 years Edna; children, Murray, Grant (Debra), Sandra (Bruce), Brian (Christine); 11 grandchildren and 14 greatgrandchildren. He will also be missed by two brothers and a sister. A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 9, 2013, from Weber’s Mt. Pleasant Chapel officiated by Deacon Doug Tien. Edward Szott Edward Szott, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Camrose, Alberta at the age of 87 years. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Christine; his children Yvonne (Garry) Pointkoski, Sheila (Jim) Peter, Rita (Patrick) Keogh, Lloyd (Geraldine) Szott, Audrey (Brent) Hrdlicka, Leanne (Paul) Kofoed, and Donna (Harvey) Hunchak; eleven grandchildren Jason, Cathy, Wyatt, Kassia, Jewel, Curtis, Danielle, Elyse, Joshua, Twyla and Cora; and eight great-grandchildren. Edward is also survived by his three brothers: Peter Szott, Martin (Gerri) Szott, and August (Barbara) Szott; six sisters: Angie Roberge, Josephine Scherrens, Annette (Everett) Fitzpatrick, Francis Tandberg, Alice (Morris) Bliid, and Olga (Ron) MacMillan; numerous cousins; nephews and nieces. Edward was predeceased by his father August; mother Annie; four brothers: Mike, Frank, Joe, and Rudy; two sisters: Victoria and Helen. Edward was born on a farm north of Daysland on September 26, 1925. He spent the majority of his life as a farmer and loved taking long walks through the bush listening to all the sounds of nature. Edward took great pride in caring for his livestock and chickens. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. A prayer vigil was held on Friday, August 9, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. from the Burgar Memorial Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. from Our Lady of the Prairies Roman Catholic Church Daysland with Rev. Leon Kler as celebrant. Interment has taken place in the Daysland Cemetery. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada (3100, 246 Stewart Green SW, Calgary, AB T3H 3C8).
