Orvin William Boettger

Arnold Melvin Knutson

Ruby Lillian Carle

Orvin William Boettger was born on his parents’ farm near Kingman. He was the fifth son of William and Lydia Boettger and lived there for 77 years, at which time they moved to Camrose. He shared his birthday with his mother and a nephew. Orvin accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized when he was nine years old and became a member of Salem Mennonite Church. His Savior was very important to him, and he served in many different roles in the church such as Song Leader, Adult Sunday School Teacher, Deacon Board Member and Lay Assistant to the Pastor. On July 24, 1952, he married the love of his life, Elsie Amanda Stauffer. They shared a Christ-centered home until he went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 25, 2012 at their home in Camrose. At the time of his death, he had lived 81 years, 11 months and 8 days. Orvin was loved and will be missed by his wife Elsie; five children Don (Marilyn) of Kingman, Charlotte Twitchell (Ken) of Camrose, Laura of Camrose, Brian (Yvonne) of Harrisonburg, VA, and Doug of Keswick, Ontario; 11 grandchildren Nicole Kucy (Greg), Janelle Hein (Joel), Joel Boettger, Amanda Batke (Aaron), Amanda McLaughlin (Rob), Carissa, Kiara and Bryson Boettger, and Macenzie, Faith and Emma Boettger; eight great-grandchildren Trevor, Tyler, Caleb and Sheldon Kucy, Braeden and Rylan Hein, and Abigail and Cayden McLaughlin. He is also survived by one brother Marvin Boettger; a sister-in-law Marge Boettger; and brothers and sisters-in-law Sid and Beulah Heintz and Enos and Lucetta Stauffer; along with a host of other relatives and friends. Orvin was predeceased by three brothers, six sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law. His love of singing was evident in the various choirs and quartets he was involved in over the years. He sang for the last time with the Tofield Men’s Chorus last week. Orvin was on the Mission Board of the Northwest Conference for many years and served on the MCC Alberta Board for seven years. He had a love of reading which was very evident on the bookshelves in their home. A special gift was his memory. When a family member couldn’t remember a name or location, he could be counted on to recall it. He especially had a way of remembering quotes, stories and sayings from decades ago. He was often heard saying, “That reminds me of...” Orvin and Elsie were caring and compassionate neighbours and, in 1974, they helped a neighbour whose husband was ill. A strong and valued friendship prevailed, and today Maria Wideman is a loved member of our family. Due to health issues in 2005, Orvin was much more limited in his short-term memory and the family is thankful for the additional seven years he lived after his surgeries. He is no longer bound by those limitations. His memory will always live in our hearts. A memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Salem Mennonite Church south of Tofield. Interment took place at Salem Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the MCC. Condolonces may be made at www.weberfuneralhome.ca.

Donald Charles Harpe March 10, 1928 – March 10, 2011 Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend As the organ music flows through the house We still feel you among us As the gentle fingers of the wind brushes our skin We feel your touch. As the brilliance of the sunset dazzles our eyes We see your smile. As the loon calls out its haunting cry We hear your voice. As the misting rain falls upon our faces We feel your presence. As we gaze at the star filled sky, the moon will be our guide We walk with you. Missed, but always remembered and eternally loved.
