we feed the pack Welcome to NC State. One of the most important parts of your experience here will be what you choose to eat, and we are excited to offer you award-winning options that are convenient, fresh, diverse, and delicious.

We have more than 40 dining locations across campus, IFMA 2019 all of which accept some form of your meal plan. From Silver Plate traditional dining halls to a mix of restaurants, cafés and Award Winner convenience stores, our program is designed to meet the unique needs and tastes of our student body. Throughout the “Locations” section of this guide, look for icons that show you how to eat using your meal plan, as well as other forms of accepted payment.

This book will serve as a guide to help you select your meal plan and familiarize you with our locations and offerings to ensure the best possible campus experience. Make your selection before you arrive on campus this fall by completing the form in the back of this book or by visiting dining.ncsu.edu. dining halls Our three all-you-care-to-eat dining hall locations are community hubs for students living on campus. With a single Dining Hall Swipe, you can eat as much or as little as you like, meet for group projects over a cone of Howling Cow, or hang out between classes with a cup of coffee in our lounge and entertainment space at Fountain. We also host themed lunches and dinners throughout the year with special menus to keep your taste buds satisfied.

ALLACCESS PASS

The Weekday, Everyday and Deluxe Plans come with an all-access pass to our dining halls. With these plans, you can come and go when you’re hungry and enjoy a full meal or light snack as often as you like throughout the semester.

Our culinary team provides you with an extensive selection of homestyle entrées and sides, a fresh salad and fruit bar, custom-made wraps, hot grill station, and more. Menus change daily and we offer weekly specials from made-to-order sauté dishes to global favorites.

On the go? Try Pack&Go! Our dining hall take-out program allows you to fill a reusable, recyclable container with your favorite menu items and take it with you.

There’s no rush to return the container; bring it back to us when you’re finished, and we’ll hand you a clean one or a token for your next take-out meal.

talley student union Talley Student Union has an exciting lineup of dining options for every palate. From classic American diner fare to sweet treats and global cuisine, there’s something fresh and delicious for everyone.

at lonnie poole golf course The Terrace is off the beaten path but well worth the trip. Located inside the clubhouse at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course, the Terrace is open daily for lunch and afternoon with a fare of appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, salads and more.

Weekends are special at the Terrace, with a brunch you won’t want to miss during your time at NC State. Carved meats, omelettes, buttery biscuits, bacon and more, plus a wide selection of house-made desserts. Come with your friends (it’s a short walk from the Hunt Library) or make a weekend visit with family members extra special.

The Terrace has indoor and outdoor seating under the veranda or on the firepit patio. Plus, you can take in a sweeping view of the golf course, Centennial Campus and the Raleigh skyline.

Dining halls and many restaurants on campus provide nutrition kiosks.

Here you can find calories, ingredient lists, sort current menus by specific allergens, and easily find vegan and vegetarian options.

The On Campus App is your guide to life on campus and also includes the hours of operation, menus and nutrition information for our NC State Dining locations. It’s a must-download as soon as you arrive on campus.

special dietary needs A growing number of students have special dietary needs, such as allergies, intolerances and dietary preferences. Our team is dedicated to meeting those nutritional needs by providing nutrition resources, education and awareness across campus.

NC State Dining is recognized nationally for our work to ensure students with food allergies and intolerances can confidently dine on campus. We mark the eight major food allergens (gluten/wheat, dairy, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, and soy) in all of our dining locations.

We offer a wide array of tasty vegan and vegetarian options during every meal at the dining halls and at many of the campus restaurants. These options are marked with a vegan or vegetarian icon.

PORK-FREE DIET

For students with a pork-free or Halal diet, we have identified recipes that contain any pork products and mark them with the pink pork icon. We also have dedicated red-handled pans at the dining halls we use for non-pork products to avoid cross contamination.

sustainability NC State Sustainable Workplace Award - 2016 NACUFS Sustainability Outreach and Education Award - 2014 Environmental Award for Pioneering Efforts - 2013

NC State Dining is proud to be a contributing partner in the university’s overall sustainability goal to conserve energy, use resources wisely and reduce our carbon footprint. Check out a few of the ways we work to make going green part of being red.

COMPOSTING INITIATIVE

We began a composting initiative at our dining halls in August 2010 and at One Earth in Talley Student Union in 2014. The initiative became a reality when an audit by Waste Reduction and Recycling found that 70 percent of waste generated by Fountain Dining Hall was compostable. In 2018, Talley Student Union collected 100.57 tons of compost and in January 2018, compostable cups, lids and straws were implemented at Talley and On the Oval. The composting initiative has assisted with NC State’s sustainability goal to decrease waste from landfills.

RECYCLED COOKING OIL

We work with GreaseCycle to collect and upcycle oil waste from our dining locations (7,361 gallons in 2018). The organic waste is converted into biodiesel fuel and composting soil. Not only is the oil being put to good use, but it is collected at no cost to us, saving thousands of dollars each year.

TAKE-OUT PROGRAM

Our dining hall take-out program, Pack&Go, features a reusable, recyclable take-out container. Since March 2009, this program has diverted more than 191,000 styrofoam to-go containers from the landfill.

AGROECOLOGY EDUCATION FARM This on-campus farm provides hands-on education regarding sustainable agriculture to students, staff, faculty, and the community. One of the Agroecology Farm’s main goals is to produce fresh and healthy food items to be served at on-campus dining locations, extending sustainable agriculture education back to campus.

Through our partnership with the farm, NC State Dining has provided funding for a new post-harvest facility, as well as a hoop house, which extends the growing season and provides nearly year-round vegetable production. In 2018, the six-acre site produced 8,000 pounds of crops for the dining program. For more information and to see what’s growing on the farm, visit agroecologyfarm.ncsu.edu.

ON-CAMPUS PARTNERSHIPS

We have created several partnerships with student organizations and professors across campus, including the NC State Sustainability Stewards and Zero Waste Wolves, to assist and align our sustainability goals.

Through a partnership with the Office of Sustainability, NC State Dining began reducing plastic waste by eliminating single-use plastic bags at the Atrium Food Court and C-Stores on campus. Reusable bags are now available for purchase at these locations, diverting over 294,000 plastic bags from the landfill in 2017 alone.

MY ROOTS ARE AT NC STATE

This program connects NC State Dining with North Carolina growers, manufacturers, processors, and producers to increase our ability to purchase locally and highlight the wealth of products grown and produced in our state. It also gives us an opportunity to share stories of NC State alumni working for these companies and how their work positively impacts our efforts to provide the best food possible for our students, faculty and staff.

choosing your meal plan ALL FIRST-ENTRY STUDENTS LIVING ON CAMPUS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A MEAL PLAN. NC State Dining offers a variety of meal plans that can be tailored to your specific needs.

Our primary meal plan options include the Weekday, Everyday, Deluxe, Block 150, and Athletic Plans. Our plans are designed to cover the cost of meals and snacks in three different ways.

Dining Hall Swipes | Come whenever you’re hungry. Just one swipe at one of our dining hall locations and you can enjoy a full meal or light snack, all with a single swipe.

Meal Credits | Use meal credits to purchase a meal at one of our many restaurants or cafés. Meal credits are also used to purchase a dining hall take-out meal. Only one meal credit can be used per meal period.

Dining Dollars | Use dining dollars at convenience stores and vending machines or to make small purchases at a restaurant or café in lieu of a meal credit. Weekday, Everyday, Deluxe, and Block 150 Plans come with 100 dining dollars.

The Commuter/Apartment Plan is comprised solely of 750 dining dollars per semester.

These dollars come with a 5 percent discount at the register and roll over from year to year.

Additional dining dollars can be added at any time throughout the semester.

MEAL PERIODS

We offer 35 meal periods throughout the week, and the meal plan week resets every Saturday morning. Use dining dollars to supplement your plan should you use more than the allotted meal swipes per meal period.

150 meals per semester that can be used anytime in the dining halls and/or once per meal period in our restaurants or cafés. This plan gives you the flexibility to choose how many meals you use from one week to the next. Includes 100 dining dollars.

COMMUTER/APARTMENT PLAN

This plan features 750 dining dollars and comes with a five percent discount at the cash register.

It’s available to students commuting to campus or living in Wolf Village, Wolf Ridge, E.S. King, Western Manor or fraternity/sorority housing. For students assigned to University Towers, this is a recommended supplement to the UT dining plan.

Your dining dollars roll over to the next semester, and if you run out, you can always add more throughout the semester.

Plans are billed through the cashier’s office each semester. While dining dollars roll over from semester to semester, meals do not. Keep this in mind as you select your plan and monitor your usage throughout the semester to ensure you have the right one. Make changes for the fall semester by September 30 * and spring semester by January 31*.

Just one card swipe at our dining halls, and you can eat as much or as little as you like. No need to think about how much you are spending here! Enjoy a variety of entrées, sides, soups, salads, fruit, Howling Cow soft-serve ice cream, and dessert, all for one meal swipe.

RESTAURANTS, CAFÉS AND DINING HALL PACK&GO Meal credits enable you to use one of your meals toward a purchase at one of our restaurants or cafés. Meal credits can also be used to purchase a Pack&Go dining hall take-out meal.

Meal credits vary by location and meal period. If you stay under the rate, you won’t owe anything more. If you choose to spend more, make up the difference with dining dollars or another form of accepted payment.

Only one meal credit can be used per meal period, and there is a limit of two bottled beverages per meal credit transaction at restaurants and cafés.

Dining dollars are flexible funds that supplement your meal plan.

Use dining dollars to: »» Cover the difference if you spend more than the allotted meal credit rate at a campus restaurant or café. »» Buy extra meals or snacks if a meal has already been used during a meal period or if you run out of weekly meal credits. »» Make purchases at our convenience stores and vending machines.

All plans, except the Commuter/Apartment and Athletic Plans, come with 100 dining dollars, with the option to add an additional 100 or 200 when signing up. We will automatically renew your account with the same amount for the spring semester unless you alert us before January 31, 2020.

Dining dollars roll over from semester to semester, and additional dining dollars can be purchased throughout the semester if you run out. While dining dollars are nonrefundable, they will remain active and be available for use on your Wolfpack One Card during your enrollment at NC State.

In addition to our meal plans, campus dining locations also accept All Campus, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover.

work with us Discover the benefits of working with NC State Dining and Rave! Events, and enjoy competitive wages, flexible schedules and convenient work locations.

We have front-of-the-house positions that are customer service oriented and include catering wait staff, bus staff, cashiers, baristas, retail restaurant staff, dining hall line servers and convenience store clerks. Other positions include clerical staff, salad prep, dish room attendants, stockroom helpers and cooks.

We offer flexibility in scheduling students for 2, 4, 6, and 8-hour shifts, and can offer 10-hour shifts on the weekends. NC State Dining is accommodating to your school needs and is able to plan your work schedule around your class schedule.

Our wages are competitive with other food service jobs in the area. We offer a system of pay increases for student employees based upon longevity and work performance. You can even advance into student supervisory positions.
