Swamp Tour

Explore the heart of the bayou!

Grab some friends and book a swamp tour with Red Stick Adventures, where you’ll catch a glimpse of Cajun culture — and maybe even some alligators! The hour-and-a-half boat tour takes you through a private animal sanctuary guided by entertaining boat captains who enjoy sharing stories about Cajun folklore and factoids, history, and trivia about Louisiana. Keep in mind, when cold weather arrives and the temp starts dropping,

but you’ll still see plenty on this swamp experience! Your ticket cost includes admission to the swamp and round-trip transportation in an air-conditioned mini motor coach. Book your tour online at redstickadventures.com

Zoolights

Light up the holiday season!

A mile-long trail through BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo featuring more than 50 illuminated sculptures and larger-than-life

symbols — sounds merry and bright, right? Zoolights is an annual tradition that stirs the holiday spirit in adults and children, and captures the wonder of the season in a unique way. The event kicks off the day after Thanksgiving and ends on December 30, so there’s plenty of time to take an evening stroll (with a cup of hot chocolate in hand, of course) and let your imagination be captivated by a dazzling light display of flamingos, giraffes, tigers, Santa, and more!

Bistro Byronz 5412 Government St.

8200 Village Plaza Court Looking for a Parisian cafe kind of place with neighborhood restaurant vibes? Visit Bistro Byronz for a taste of classic Louisiana flavors that follows the mantra, “Homemade is good.” A menu favorite is the Croque Madame Burger — turkey burger, bacon Mornay sauce, ham, spinach, tomatoes, and a poached egg served with sweet potato fries. Other hearty brunch dishes include the Creole Grits & Grillades — cheese grits, pot roast, Creole gravy, and cheese crumbles — and the Poché Etouffée, which marries crab meat, fried poached eggs, etouffée, and hollandaise sauce on toasted Byronz bread.

The Gregory 150 Third St.

The Watermark Hotel in downtown Baton Rouge houses a brunch hot spot with a farmto-table menu designed to kick up Deep South cuisine. Try the Trout Piquant — smoked trout, turtle sauce piquant, roasted potatoes, and butter-roasted Brussels sprouts — or the Fire Deck Brunch Pizza, which has shaved ham, two sunny-side up eggs, peppered lard, and a provolone blend on a Roman-style crust. If you like to end brunch on a sweet note, their bread pudding is a delightful blend of roasted butternut squash, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla custard, and whiskey sauce. 7
