POTLUCK IDEAS
Hosting a potluck can be a fantastic way to promote social and community wellbeing for yourself and others! Here are a few themes you can use when inviting people over for a enjoyable evening together.
BACKYARD BBQ
Enjoy your favorite grilled and smoked meats! This theme could include everything from burgers and hot dogs to ribs, sausage, and pulled pork. People can also sign up for sides like baked beans, coleslaw, and potato salad. And don’t forget BBQ sauce and sweet treats like watermelon or cupcakes!
FAMILY FAVORITES
For many people, they have memories associated with certain types of food or specific dishes; food that reminds them of home. For some, they have family recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation. This potluck theme is a great way to get to know others and to enjoy dishes that are meaningful to them!
FRIENDSGIVING
For some people this is a special time of year, full of family and friends, but for others it can be a very challenging time of year. No matter, which group people belong to, a Friendsgiving potluck dinner is a sure fire way to help people be surrounded by love, joy, and gratitude. This theme is less about what food item you bring and more about enjoying the company of the people who attend your gathering.
POTATO BAR
This is a chance to celebrate all things potatoes! You have a plethora of options to choose from: potato chips, potato wedges, baked potatoes, french fries, mashed potatoes, tater tots, sweet potato fries, gnocchi, hashbrowns, and potato skins to name a few. Have people bring potatoes in all its forms and also bring a variety of toppings, dips, and sauces.
THROWBACK
Enjoy a blast from the past! For this theme, have everyone bring their favorite childhood food! It could be anything from fruit gushers to chicken nuggets to cosmic brownies. Maybe someone even surfs the web to find purple ketchup or crystal Pepsi! You could even take this theme up a notch and have people dress up!

M&M GRATITUDE ACTIVITY
Below are a couple other activities to promote gratitude! This is a great activity to do with a group of people; it could be friends, co-workers, family, neighbors, etc. Depending on the size of the group, everyone will receive about 4 or 5 pieces. Then, take turns sharing what you are grateful for from the picture below based on the corresponding M&M color!

GRATITUDE WALK
A gratitude walk is an opportunity to slow down and practice mindfulness at some point in your day; this could be a way that you choose to start your day, it could be a way that you spend your lunch break, or it could be something that supports you when you encounter circumstances that are overwhelming and you need to take a moment to reset.
It might be easier to be in touch with the things or people in our lives that we are grateful for; a child, a partner, a parent, a job, a vehicle, peace, joy, etc. But it might take digging a little deeper to be in touch with the things we are grateful for in nature. But if you take this time to be intentional about walk through nature and paying attention to all the sights, sounds, and smells, you will soon find a list of things around you that you are grateful for!
Here are some tips for your next gratitude walk...
TIPS
Choose a natural setting such as a park, garden, or trail for the gratitude walk.
Take a walk, observe, and appreciate the elements of nature you encounter.
Along the way, express gratitude for the sights, sounds, smells, and sensations you experience. Allow moments of silence for personal reflection and share your observations and expressions of gratitude afterward.
Gratitude walks can also be used as a resilience-building activity that helps to overcome a challenging situation by letting you connect with your thoughts and reflect on your strengths which can be the way to deal with a situation.
