Last half term Campsmount Academy’s focus was Pride and Year 8 have displayed their pride in a range of subjects and opportunities across the academy. After recently becoming Progress Leader for Year 8, I am so proud to see and hear about all the amazing activities my students are doing. Students are praised and rewarded each week in assembly for their achievements and regular updates can be found on our Twitter account. Below are a few examples of the exceptional hard work of staff and students from last half term, that has raised the aspirations of the year group.

‘We will Remember’ This half term in DT Year 8 have been designing and making poppies for a display. They are hoping to complete a display in time for Remembrance Week, the first week back after half term.

The poppies have been made from old plastic bottles, salt dough, card, fabric and other materials. They have worked sensibly and collaboratively and it has incorporated one of our other core values, Community.

‘Campsmount at it’s BEST’ On the 19th October we had a Year 5 and 6 Open Evening at school. The school was well represented by Year 8 students in a number of departments.

‘Sports Personalities of the Year’ The Year 8 Boys Football team received high praise for their Sportsmanship and character from McAuley Catholic High School in October when they played against them. The football team for this match was: Cohen Stephenson, Matthew Moses, Spencer Levitt, Mitchell Wilson, Owen Jones, Cody Gallimore, Jay Mathieson, Charlie Rock, James Warris, Ryan Smart, Owen Talentire and Cohen Green. Keep your head’s up boys!

‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’?

On the 25th October Year 8 Russell Group students were given the opportunity to go to Sheffield University to experience a day in the life of Post 16 students. Students were asked to discuss the racial tensions that were displayed in the

film ‘Who framed Roger Rabbit?

Students were given contextual information about Race Relations in America in the 1930s and 40s, a topic they will be studying in History later this year.

Sheffield University staff expressed their pride in our students,

making reference to their literacy, analytical and communication skills. Students were commended on their appearance, presentation and their enthusiasm for education.

‘And the Academy Award goes to…’

The energy of 8dr1 and 8dr2 is very high.

Each task that is set, is met with a real enthusiasm to work as a group. They support each other to the fullest offering both, praise and constructive criticism. During their work on Titanic, they have created some excellent characters through the use of

body language, facial expressions and voice. They have made a real effort to portray a more realistic and mature interpretation of the tragedy of the Titanic.

I am extremely pleased.

Kaden Bates and Louis Debenham were simply outstanding - What they created out of a

table was genius and the whole class watched in awe.

They both were so proud. The class and I thought what they created was amazing – Mr Martin , Drama Teacher

ASPIRE Towards the end of October a group of students were placed on an ASPIRE report to boost aspirations and get students motivated in lessons. It brings me great pleasure to announce that Holly Adams, Josh Berry and Luke Elder made outstanding progress on this report finishing the time period with an AtL average of 1.15 and are awaiting their rewards.

Key Stage 3 started their Numeracy Ninja journey in Pre Lesson Learning. The purpose of this task is to increase the mental strategies, timestables and key skills fluency of KS3 students in preparation for KS4. Students are given 5 minutes to complete a series of maths questions and self assess their answers and see which ‘coloured belt’ they are each week, seeing their own progression in maths week to week. Last half term we had lots of ‘Black Belts’ across Year 8, the following students received at least ONE Black Belt: 8FCN – Morgan Adams, Emily Barnard, Kaden Bates, Joseph Johnson, Niamh McGoranWerrett and Fraser Watson.

8KFX – Alex Beighton, Cody Gallimore, Keira Kirkbride, Isobel Marsden, Elise Ramsey, Isabelle Roberts, Bethany Scorah, Dylan Stewart, Lydia Wood and Joshua Wigglesworth.

8JSD – Rhianna Aldridge, Maddison Beazley, Billy Curnow and Riley Graves.

8JSL – Daniel Butler, Cohen Green, Emily Lumley, Abbigail Myers, Sophie Nicholson, Charlie Rock, Cohen Stephenson, Sian Webb.

Alongside ‘Black Belt’ status we had some Year 8 students who went even further and achieved ‘Grand Master’ status by getting three black belts in a row!

Literacy Leaders Each Monday in Pre Lesson Learning students are given time to complete a short task to help develop their literacy skills. There were lots of students across the year group that have been a Literacy Leader, achieved 10/10, at least once last half

term. If this was you, you should be so proud of yourself and keep aiming to get 100% every week.

Campsmount Students have ‘The Edge’

In January 2017 students were given the opportunity to develop their Leadership, Organisation, Resilience, Initiative and Communication skills through the PixL Edge Scheme. Campsmount is the first and only school in Doncaster to provide students with this opportunity and we took a group of students to a celebration event in July to award their hard work and effort in developing these essential skills.

Some of the tasks

students have undertaken include, creating displays for classrooms, being a tour guide on Open Evening, assisting with extra curriculum activities, being a Games Maker or Learning Leader, having 95% attendance and creating a safety leaflet for the new cohort of Y7s.

The following students have continued to work on their PixL Edge profiles and are now officially ‘PixL Edge Apprentices’ and are working towards their ‘Graduate Level’ or ‘Pioneer Level’: Harvey McVay, Tilly Mae White, Jamie Wheeler, Morgan Adams, Emily Barnard, Niamh McGoran Werrett, Fraser Watson, Cody Gallimore, Harry Gawthorpe, Elise Ramsey, Isabelle Roberts, Emily Thompson, Rhianna Aldridge, Kaydee Emberton, Leah

Stationary4U During the Russell Group BIG Challenge, The Apprentice, a number of budding entrepreneurs emerged.

One student in particular demonstrated a real determination and drive to realise one of her ambitions. Alex Beighton has recently worked closely with A-Level business students to prepare and submit a detailed and professional business plan in order to be granted a

school loan to open up her school stationary shop.

Stationary 4U is now open on Monday and Wednesday pre school and at lunchtimes with the main aim of helping students improve their ATL, Be Prepared, Be Organised and Be Ready for Learning! A massive well done to Alex for her journey so far, watch out Sir Alan.

Top Geoga's!!

Year 8 geographers have set an impressive standard of work and enthusiasm so far this year. Doncaster is definitely in safe hands should it ever be in this position in the future - 'Doncaster by the sea 2050'.

With a range of hard and soft coastal management methods at their disposal and a number of opinions to consider our students took exceptional pride in offering their suggestions on how to protect our coastline should Doncaster ever have one.

8JSL As part of the SMSC and Wider Development of our students, this year we have launched a ‘Student Led Assembly’ for each half term. Sophie Nicholson, Emily Lumley, Sian Webb and Charlie from 8JSL were lucky enough to be the first tutor group to present with the theme of ‘pride’.

The students presented different interpretations of the word ‘pride’ from teachers and what makes them proud, then went on to explain what achievements they are proud of, some of which included being part of Russell Group, PixL Edge Apprentice Level, playing football, fishing and being a student at Campsmount Academy. It was an honour to watch this assembly and the students really did their tutor group and year group proud. The bar has been set very high for the next assembly for 8KFX!
