OPENING DAY CHECKLIST We are confident that this session will be an exciting experience for your camper(s). Please look over the following information. We hope it helps you navigate your way to all the important areas on Opening day.

ENTERING CAMP INSTRUCTIONS

CHECK-IN PROCEDURES

AS SOON AS YOU ENTER CAMP Your camper(s) will be given a name tag with their name and cabin number.

OFFICE You may skip this step if you checked in at the Satellite lot office.

YOU WILL THEN PROCEED TO THE SUMMIT (S1A-S21 & P1-P4) OR CABIN SQUARE AREA (1-58) You will also be personally welcomed by one of our Camp directors. *If you have campers in both the Summit and Cabin square, go to the Summit first.

HEALTH CENTER Campers who do not take medications may check in at either Health Center. Campers who do take medications must check in at the appropriate Health Center (Main Camp or Summit).

IN THE UNLOADING AREA YOU WILL BE GREETED BY VALET AND LUGGAGE PERSONNEL We strongly encourage you to valet your car so you may escort your child to their cabin to meet you counselors. Our luggage personnel will transport your luggage to the appropriate cabin. If you choose to park your own car, please stay in your car and our luggage personnel will unload your vehicle. A greeter will escort your child to their cabin. Please do not leave your vehicle unattended so we may keep the unloading area clear for other families. ONCE YOUR LUGGAGE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE CABIN AND YOUR CAR MOVED TO OUR PARENT PARKING AREA, YOU WILL CONTINUE ON WITH THE CHECKIN PROCEDURE. PLEASE REFER TO THE CAMP MAP FOR DIRECTIONS.

We hope this has made your checkin experience at Camp Ozark pleasant and enjoyable. We are looking forward to the session!

SWIM TEST Located at the Waterfront **It is usually best to put on your swimsuit as soon as you are finished organizing everything in your cabin. STOP BY THE CAMP STORE Get your store pre-orders and check out the new Camp Ozark clothing for this summer. Cabins 1-58 go to the Main Camp Store. Cabins S1A-S21 & P1-P4 go to the Summit Store. SCHEDULE CONFIRMATION STATION Located in the lodge (this is optional).

ONCE THESE STEPS HAVE BEEN TAKEN CARE OF, YOU ARE DONE!! You may leave at this time or you are welcome to stay and visit for a while longer. (It is recommended that you do not stay too long as this usually makes it harder to leave). If you have any questions, please ask your camper(s) counselors or any other Camp Ozark Staff member. If they are not able to answer your question to your satisfaction, please go to the office and they will be able to help you.

VALUES BASED CAMPING As we seek to fulfill our stated mission, through consciously striving to integrate our philosophy, it is important to remember that there are certain values, character traits, and life-skills that we want to impart to our campers. This is what we call “VALUES BASED CAMPING. Below is a listing of the values included in our Values Based Camping initiative:

SELF-ESTEEM Self-esteem is understanding who you are, how you are, and feeling positive and empowered by this knowledge. Simply put, praise the kids as often as you can. Never demean a child purposefully. Our goal is to increase self-esteem in kids by constant affirmation as to their inherent worth.

SELF-CONFIDENCE Self-confidence may be contrasted to self-esteem in that self-esteem is feeling positive about who you are, while self-confidence is feeling positive about what you do. Therefore, at Camp Ozark we want to instill self-confidence by encouraging our campers to try new things and validating their efforts, as well as encouraging our campers to find their passions and pursue them whole-heartedly.

INTEGRITY Integrity means doing the right thing, regardless of the consequence. It is honesty and moral soundness. It includes truthfulness, honesty, respect for others, commitment and work ethic. At Camp Ozark, your integrity will be tested every day. We know this because in life, your integrity is tested every day. We want the kids and staff to be conscious of developing a worthy personal integrity.

TEAMWORK At Camp Ozark, we want the concept of the benefit of the group over the benefit of the individual to be modeled and taught. We want kids to understand that it is really true that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, that it is the responsibility of the gifted to assist those not as gifted, that it is the responsibility of the individual to develop a greater concern for others than himself, and that ultimately the ability to create success in a group leads to greater success in life.

FRIENDSHIP At Camp Ozark, we want kids to learn that friendship takes initiative, effort, investment, transparency, forgiveness, and time. We want kids to leave Camp Ozark with new friends and to learn that there is value in friendship.
