a word from the committee president The thrill of another Camp Creative never goes away. In 2023, we are excited to welcome Nicole Ruigrok as the coordinator, bringing a wonderful blend of enthusiasm and organisational brilliance to the role. With her at the helm, we are confident that Camp Creative is in capable hands.

Our committee has undergone a significant transformation, and it has been a genuine pleasure collaborating with this fresh and dynamic team. We encourage you to take a moment to introduce yourself to them.

We are delighted to share that this year’s Celebrity Concert will showcase the talents of inspiring young individuals, alongside performances by the renowned David Helfgott and the beloved Mark Walton. Additionally, the Grand Finale has been revamped for a shorter yet more enjoyable experience. This adjustment allows us ample time to come together and celebrate the conclusion of the camp.

A constant source of joy at Camp Creative is the opportunity to reconnect with old friends and forge new, lifelong connections. The sense of renewal and the creation of lasting friendships are integral aspects of the camp experience.

HALF WEEK COURSES This year we only have one half week course, Textile Art. This course will run Monday and Tuesday 9am until 4pm and Wednesday 9am until 12pm.

LUNCHBREAK There is a 1 hour lunch break from 12pm until 1pm. Pages 14-19 detail on-campus and off-campus lunch options.

LOGISTICS LOST PROPERTY If you find any lost property, please bring it to the Camp Creative Office for collection by the owners. Alternatively, if you have lost something please let the Camp Creative Office know.

Security We suggest that you take home any valuable equipment after your class has finished for the day. Classrooms are locked overnight and security is provided, but we can’t cover the loss of any Camper’s items.

Each school campus has a Camp Creative Office — your central hub for information and enquiries.

Each day you’ll get an update on all things Camp Creative — you’ll find them in your classroom or on noticeboards. Contact the Camp Creative Office by 3pm if you have a relevant item to add to the bulletin for the next day.

MATERIALS

St Mary’s Primary School

If you’re in an art class and need extra supplies to fill a gap on your materials list, you can order art supplies via Gail Cardow at Island Art Supplies. She has an order sheet at the Camp Office and makes deliveries each day. You can also head down to Weave on the main street of Bellingen, which has a great range of artists’ supplies and craft materials.

GUIDES Need some directions or a helping hand?

The friendly young Guides are keen to help you out. Look for the bright green shirts — usually found at the Camp Creative Office.

NAME BADGES Your course tutor and classmates might take a while to get to know your name — it helps if you wear your name badge daily. It is also used for entry to Camp Creative events.

PHOTOCOPYING If you need photocopying or printing, head to the Camp Creative Office and for a small fee our guides will copy for you.

The majority of our venues meet accessibility standards, and we are focused on making Camp Creative as accessible as possible.

Please get in touch if you require more information about the accessibility of venues and courses for your needs.

Surveys We’re always looking to improve! You can help us by completing our survey. A link will be sent to you via email on the last day of Camp Creative. Hard copies of this survey are available at the Camp Creative Office if preferred. Answering this survey helps us create a better Camp Creative!

PHOTOS & VIDEO By attending Camp Creative, you agree to being filmed or photographed which may be used for marketing or promotional purposes.

If you do not wish to have your image recorded, please let the Camp Creative Office know. They will provide you with a bright sticker to put on your name badge.

KIDS & TEENS

HEALTH & SAFETY Parents and families are welcome to collect their kids for lunchtime. They will need to be picked up at 12pm and dropped off at 1pm.

Teens over 14 are allowed to go out for lunch unaccompanied, but the parent/guardian must have specified this on the Child Information Form.

Photos & Video Please let us know if you would prefer that your child not be included in official Camp Creative photos and video.

We want your kids to have lots of fun! We also want to them to have a safe and friendly experience, so we have some guidelines in place.

You will have received an online form via email before Camp Creative to provide the information and permissions requested below.

Allergies & Medical Conditions Please ensure any allergies and medical conditions have been noted on your submitted Child Information Form.

We encourage the provision of allergy or asthma management plans. These must be provided to the Camp Creative Office, who will then provide a copy to class tutors.

We do not manage medications or provide pain relief.

Lunchtime Tutors are not responsible for students during lunchtime. We no longer offer a daily bus for children at external venues to get to the High School for lunch. This will only be provided on the last day (Friday 12th), for children to go to the kids concert at the High School, this goes from 2pm to 3.45pm.

There will be supervised lunch areas at St Mary’s Primary School, the Youth Hub and the High School. Childcare during lunch will be free, but please note we will be introducing a cost of $5 per day (per child) in 2025.

If you haven’t booked your child in, please see staff in the office to arrange.

Our venue childcare providers cannot be responsible for children if parents have not filled in the Child Information Form.

We do use them for Camp Creative publicity, so they may appear on our website, social media and promotional materials. Kids and teens who can’t be photographed will receive both a coloured wristband and a bright sticker for their name badge, to notify photography and video teams. Please ensure you wear your name badge and wristband at all times, so it is visible to photographers.

Safe Work, Safe Classrooms Safety is a high priority for Camp Creative — for all Campers, tutors, staff and volunteers.

You’ll get a safety induction from your tutor first thing Monday morning. They’ll also provide ongoing demonstrations and information around work safety throughout the week.

We ask that you respect all guidelines around safety and wear the appropriate clothing, footwear and protective gear as required.

Medical For urgent medical attention, seek assistance at the first aid room at the High School and St Mary’s Primary School offices.

Beat the heat Bellingen is very hot in January, which can affect your health. Wear cool, loose clothing and if outside, sunscreen and a hat. Drink plenty of water and spend time in air-conditioning whenever you can.

Those doing outdoor courses may wish to take lunch breaks inside air-conditioned rooms.

ECO-FRIENDLY Bring Your Own Want to help reduce waste? Bring along your reusable kit everyday – coffee cup, water bottle, cutlery and straw. There are cool water filling stations at the High School.

Scraps for chooks!

Look out for the different types of bins at the High School and St Mary’s Primary School.

You’ll need to sort your recycling, but you can also now put food waste in special bins. They’ll go to the chooks at the High School and the worms and compost at St Mary’s Primary School.

Air-conditioning Most of our classes are air-conditioned a big reprieve from the January heat! Help keep the energy use down and prevent them

from overloading by keeping doors and windows shut, especially during break and lunch periods.

Community Mug Library In Bellingen there’s a movement that’s phasing out single-use coffee cups! Think it’s a good idea? Get involved!

When you’re in the village looking for a takeaway coffee, keep an eye out for our town-wide Mug Library. Choose a cup off the shelf, order your favourite coffee, then wander up the street or even jump in your car. Empty cups can be dropped off at the Camp Creative desk, or at any participating cafe, where they’ll be commercially cleaned and returned to the library.

GETTING AROUND ST MARY'S PRIMARY SCHOOL

Front Entrance

There is plenty of street parking available around St Mary’s Primary School. Please leave the onsite parking for staff and tutors.

The main car park is in the front entrance on the Waterfall Way. There is no parking at the top level near the administration block.

Camp Creative Shuttle Bus

Rear Entrance

The Camp Creative Shuttle bus runs mornings and afternoons daily. It runs in a CLOCKWISE loop through the town. Each loop runs in fifteen-minute intervals.

HIGH SCHOOL PARKING

There are a small number of car parks near the Crown Street bus stop. There is plenty of street parking on Crown Street and surrounding side streets.

DISABLED PARKING A valet disabled parking service is available at the High School. Camp Creative staff can meet your car at the top drop-off zone and park it at the bottom. Your keys will be kept in secure storage at the Camp Creative Office.

Your car will be driven up for you to collect when you require it. Please call Rob Stockton on 0403 227 599 to organise this service.

TOWN PARKING Bellingen has had an increase in parking zones in recent years – previous secret spots may now have time limits. Watch out for limits on side streets immediately off Hyde Street.

These are a highlight of Camp Creative — almost every night offers an opportunity to get together and enjoy an evening’s entertainment. Apart from the Sunday’s welcome dinner, all events are free, but it is essential that you wear your name badge to gain entrance to these events.

Enjoy performances from talented young performers. The late Gillian Helfgott always encouraged young performers to perform at a high level. As always, the talented and charismatic woodwind tutor, Mark Walton, will be performing.

A fun, casual night out — grab a meal, a drink and enjoy the talents of your fellow Campers.

Includes performances by Spaghetti Circus students and several other kids courses.

And if you want to share your talents? Step up on stage by yourself or in a group - one slot each. Register at the Camp Creative Office. You’ll need to get your name down by 10.00 am Wednesday morning.

An extravaganza event with drama, dance, photography, film and music - you’ll be blown away by what kids and teens can pull together in just five days.

A highlight is a special celebrity performance by the brilliant David Helfgott, one of the world’s most acclaimed piano players and subject of the Oscar Award winning film, ‘Shine’. *Stockton Hall is located at Bellingen High School and can be located on the School map, page 24.

Tutors — please note this is a Camper’s event, so tutors are only able to register as part of a Camper group.

Free fridge space At the High School you can find the fridge outside the Camp Creative Office. Feel free to use this to keep any lunches, drinks and medications cool during the day.

LUNCH DELIVERY If you’re at the High School or the Youth Hub, the quality food from the High School canteen is available via the lunch order service, for deliveries straight to your classroom. You can pre-order your lunches for the whole week or put in an order daily.

A CULTURAL COMMUNITY WITH A COUNTRY TOWN VIBE. One of the prettiest towns in New South Wales is also one of its most creative.

Bellingen (known as ‘Bello’ to the locals) is renowned for its natural beauty, festivals and vibrant arts and music scene.

Famous for its eclectic mix of boutique shops, galleries and great restaurants, cafés and bars, Bellingen was once a dairy village.

Retaining its country charm, this historic town is now home to a dynamic community of artists and creatives and is the host of a number of annual creative arts and music festivals.

Relax and unwind against the backdrop of the beautiful Bellinger River and blue hazed

mountains. The river runs through the town, perfect for swimming and canoeing.

Hit the road and drive to Dorrigo, which lays claim to the ‘World Heritage listed’ Gondwana Rainforests of Dorrigo National Park, with walking trails and waterfalls.

Urunga is a 15 minute drive, a seaside town that’s a drawcard for summer holiday visitors. Here you will find swimming, beach walks and cafes.

Mylestom offers fishing, swimming and great fish & chips.

Sawtell boasts a fabulous array of cafes and restaurants, beaches and walks. It also has a great range of boutique stores for shopping.

If you prefer a larger place, in 30 minutes you can drive to Coffs Harbour. Here you will find beaches, nature experiences, shopping centres, botanic gardens and plenty of things to do for the kids.

The market is held on the 2nd Sunday of each month by the foreshores of the twin rivers (the Bellinger and Kalang), by the iconic Urunga Boardwalk.

Urunga Riverside Market is celebrating 10 years in March 2024 and provides a range of stalls, exotic foods, entertainment and a great day for the whole family.

URUNGA RIVERSIDE MARKET SUNDAY 14TH JANUARY 8AM – 1PM Head to picturesque Urunga to end your week at Camp Creative. The riverside market is a great place to shop, grab a bite to eat and have a coffee. You can find the market behind the Reflections Holiday Park, on the waterfront at 2 Morgo Street Urunga.
