We would like to congratulate Melissa Usher on her successful appointment, teaching P/1 at Maldon Primary School.

A celebration of Melissa’s teaching career at both Campbells Creek and Guildford Primary schools will be held prior to the opening of the History Expo at Campbells Creek next Wednesday 2nd August at 2.45pm in the Banyan Building. All are welcome to attend. An informal farewell will also take place at Guildford’s afternoon assembly next week. After 7 years of service at our schools, we will be very sad to say goodbye to her. She has made a big difference in our schools and in the lives of many of our students. We would like to thank Melissa for the huge contribution she has made to both of our schools and wish her well in her future endeavours.

We would like to thank Dean McLaren for taking on the teaching roll at Guildford Primary School for the remainder of this year. Dean has had a number of years experience teaching at Guildford Primary School in the past and has established relationships with both the school and local community.

School Fete Competition

Lasts term, students were invited to design a poster for the upcoming school fete (21st October). The Parents Club had the enjoyment of choosing both a junior and a senior winner. Congratulations to Holly White (junior) and Mathilde Cross (senior). These poster designs, as shown below, will be used to promote our Fete in and around Castlemaine.

Enrolments for 2018 It is approaching that time of year again- enrolment time for 2018!

Telling other people about the great things we have happening in our schools is a great way to promote our schools and encourage families to look through. If you know of any families with preschool children please encourage them to ring the school and have a look through for 2018.

People who have looked through are certainly impressed with our facilities and with our focus on rich teaching and learning practices. It’s an exciting time to be a part of our schools and we don’t want other people missing out on being a part of our fabulous community.

If you have a child starting school next year, please see Glynis in the office for an enrolment form.

This challenge serves as a great way to get kids motivated to increase the number of books they are reading. The Victorian Premier, Daniel Andrews, has challenged students from every year level to read a certain number of books by September 8th.

New School Mobile number Campbells Creek recently purchased a new school mobile phone to make ourselves easier to contact on excursions and in emergencies. This phone can also be used to text in student absence information.

Battery, lightbulb and mobile phone recycling A reminder to bring your old batteries, mobile phones and light bulbs to the office now for recycling. The Mount Alexander Sustainability Group will come and collect them for their amazing recycling program. #bethechange

Head Lice Please keep checking your child’s hair regularly (weekends are a great time) and treat accordingly. Head lice are always an issue, particularly with the younger students who work closely together. Once treated, students can return to school.

Reminder: All students with shoulder length hair must tie their hair back when at school. (This helps us to stop the spread of creepy crawlies).

Lost Property We are getting quite a number of jumpers in our lost property. Please encourage your child to look for any lost clothing in the cupboard at the end of the admin corridor.

Many of the jumpers in this cupboard are not namedplease, please, please name your child’s clothing so it can be easily returned. You never know, there could be a day coming up where all named jumpers get 50 house points…

Bookweek- Advanced Notice We have had a few people mentioning Bookweek to us already and inquiring about dates. The dates for bookweek is August 18-25 (week 6 of this term) and the official theme is: Escape to everywhere!

For new parents to the school: during bookweek we usually have a dress up day where students come dressed as a character from one of their favourite books. Many children go to lots of effort for this dress up day and all of the staff get involved too. We usually start the day with a parade around the front of the school and all parents are invited to come along and have a look.

Premier’s Reading Challenge Great news! We are finally officially registered for the Premier's Reading Challenge. If you would like your child's login details please speak to your child's teacher.

After School Care News The Castlemaine YMCA After School Care program is held at Campbells Creek PS every night after school.

It runs from 3:30- 6:15pm.

This program runs in the Banyan Building every night and on holidays as well.

To enrol your child in the YMCA After School Care Program you need to call 0499 983 828 before the day you would like your child to attend the program.

Communication In the event that an Emergency Management issue arises we will use Facebook and Tiqbiz as our primary methods of communication with parents.

To access our Facebook page simply search for Campbells Creek and Guildford’ on Facebook. Please ensure you have joined the “Closed” group (you will have to send a request for permission before one of our administrators gives you access).

For those people who don’t use Facebook, we also have a smartphone app called ‘TiqBiz.’ This app can be downloaded from the app store on all phones and is free.

Once you have downloaded the app you need to search for our schools’ name and join this school.

If you would like any help to join either of these groups please come in and see us.

Payments app- QKR app The smartphone app ‘QKR’ can be used to make payments of any amount off expenses such as excursions, stationery and materials, etc. You simply download the app, sign in, select the item you would like to make a payment for and then indicate how much you would like to pay off. (You can pay off as little as you like- and as often as you like.)

To pay an installment on the app, you need to clear the total cost at the top of the page and enter your desired amount instead.

Parents Club We are starting to prepare for our school fete which is on Saturday 21st October. On Wednesday afternoons commencing at 2.30pm in the old Lote room, we will begin to make craft items to sell at the fete. We are calling for donations of any craft items that you may have.

We would love to see as many people as possible come along and share their skills with others, enjoy a social afternoon with a cuppa while creating some amazing craft items to sell on the day of the fete. Any donations can be left at the office .

Congratulations Leshae During the holidays, Castlemaine netball association attended a netball carnival on the Gold Coast. Campbells Creek was represented by Leshae Maddern in the Minis (12/u). Leshae’s team won the sportsmanship award

voted by the umpires. They then went on to take out the division 2 grand final 12/4 after not winning a game earlier in the rounds.

Congratulations Leshae on being Brilliant.

Gardening News Gardening is back for Term 3. We managed another beautiful sunny lunchtime in an otherwise ordinary weather day to get a bit of weeding done around the school.

During the session, we took the opportunity to pull out some of the weeds that are just starting to pop up.

Tackling these weeds is much easier now when they are small and the ground is moist.

The students really enjoyed pulling out the weeds and finding plenty of earthworms.

In the coming weeks we hope to continue tidying up around the garden while we eagerly watch our vegies grow.

Gardening Tip It is time to prune and plant your fruit trees. Bare rooted trees are available from most nurseries at this time of year.

Many varieties do well in Campbells Creek such as apples, pears, nectarines, plums and peaches. Cherries whilst a little fickle do particularly well.

Look for late fruiting stone fruit varieties including cherries to avoid damage to blossoms from late frosts.

Crafternoon for our Fete Every Wednesday during term 3 Parents Club are hosting a Crafternoon from 2:30pm to 3:30pm in the old Lote room.

Inclusive Garden The countdown is on! The Campbells Creek inclusive Garden project construction should commence in 4 weeks!

This week the crafters got off to a great start beginning work on a variety of projects including Tic Tac Toe bags, book marks and shopping bags made from old t-shirts.

All items made during these sessions will be for sale at our Community Fete in October.

You do not need to be crafty as there are plenty of different jobs to suit all skill levels.

Come for as long or as short as you like, bring or don’t bring supplies and ideas. It’s up to you.

The following items would be appreciated: Buttons, lace, glitter, glitter glue, pva glue, potting mix, bird seed, white crepe, wooden spoons, ribbon, peanut butter, air clay, soaps, tattoos, pens, ribbon/string for produce bags, magnets, paper clips etc.

Tea and coffee provided along with good company and conversation.

Friends of the Hudad -Ethiopian School Project Communities helping communities.

Music Concert Students from Campbells Creek will be participating in the annual DTM students gig, Saturday 5th August, 6pm start, $5 entry. Salvation Army Hall, Mundy Street Bendigo.

WHAT'S THAT? YOU KNIT!!!

Excellent! We are looking for people to knit beanies to take over and give to the villagers on the Hudad Plateau. It can get pretty cold at an altitude of 3300 mtrs What better way to help the people of the Hudad stay warm at night.

Guildford Tree Talk A word from Melissa

It is with sadness to share that Friday 4th August will be my last day at Guildford Primary, however I am all set for my new adventure at Maldon Primary teaching grade Prep/1.

We will be joining with Campbells On Friday afternoon we will be having Creek senior students next Wednesday an informal assembly to celebrate my afternoon from 3pm-4pm to present time at Guildford. We invite all parents to join us on Friday 4th August our finished projects. at 3.15 pm at an afternoon assembly.

Then next Friday we will be presenting our projects to the wider Guildford Change of teacher.

Community at Guildford Primary from 2pm-2.30pm.

Next week Mr Mac will spend Monday and Tuesday at Guildford The students have been learning about with myself and the students. This will our local Guildford history and give Mr Mac the opportunity to not significant events or celebrations only reconnect with the students but throughout Australian history. also see how I run my day to day program. The students have worked extremely hard on all aspects of the projects from planning to the final product so we are hoping you all can come along and see what the students have produced.

Grade 6 T-shirts Our grade 6 t-shirts have arrived and look fantastic. Our grade six students Tanisha, Ruby and Madi created the design with help from Kerry, our aide. The design includes our school values of PRIDE, Passion, Respect, Inclusion, Drive and Excellence. The students included the Big Tree into the design also. A big thank you to Tex and Fi from Bit Tree T-Shirts Screen Printing and Promotions, for printing the designs onto the back of our school t-shirts. They look fantastic!

Thank you to Sky Thank you to Sky and the Murray family again for looking after out lovely chickens over the holidays. We know with this family taking care of them they are always fell fed and watered. Also a big thank you to Sky for organizing with our local council to conduct a burn off on Sunday of rubbish that has been building up behind our chicken enclosure.

Sensory Garden The sensory garden is well under way thank you to Jemma, Sky and Leigh for digging up the pathways for the students to fill with different types of rocks. This term we will be finishing the path, planting more sensory plants and creating sculptures for the garden that promote the senses of touch, sound and sight. It is going to look fantastic in the end and I hope it will blow the judges away when they come to look at our school in August.
