E

n nuestro interesante Camino Turístico hemos tenido el privilegio de recorrer distintas ciudades del país. Al iniciar este fantástico viaje, nos trasladamos hacia el pasado para conocer la cautivante historia del astillero de Guayaquil y su marcado dinamismo comercial.

Y es que la Perla del Pacífico nos da una grata bienvenida a través de su reconocido y galardonado Aeropuerto Internacional José Joaquín de Olmedo, invitándonos a conocer importantes sitios turísticos como el Cerro Santa Ana, el Parque de los Samanes o el Malecón del Salado.

Mostrando a Guayaquil, como cede de eventos de trascendental importancia como La Cumbre Global de Liderazgo, un evento de gran interés que nos motiva a desarrollar la grandiosa visión de guiar a los demás.

Luego de seis meses del terremoto, nuestra querida provincia de Manabí no se rinde ni baja sus brazos, y más bien nos invita a seguir explorando las encantadoras playas de Manta y de Crucita “La bella”. De esta manera, manifestamos nuestro constante apoyo a los hermanos manabitas.

En nuestra sección Anfitriones les presentamos la belleza natural de dos hermosos sitios, dignos de visitar; la Hostería Nautilus y la Hacienda Guamag. Por otro lado, no podríamos dejar de conocer la provincia de Pastaza, también llamada “la puerta de entrada a la Amazonía”, valiosa por sus recursos naturales y la diversidad de culturas indígenas.

Sin embargo, nuestro Camino Turístico no culmina ahí, pues hemos cruzado las fronteras de nuestro amado país para dirigirnos hacia las vecinas playas de Tumbes- Perú. Desde ahí, el lodge Las Cherelas ofrece disfrutar de distintas actividades acuáticas.

Y para continuar deleitándonos, las rutas gastronómicas resaltan distintos lugares de Guayaquil y Samborondón y abren paso a la capital del banano, con Las rutas gastronómicas de El Oro. Bienvenidos y buen provecho.

uadorian cities. We started this fantastic journey in the captivating shipyards of Guayaquil, one of the historic pillars of the city’s dynamic international commerce.

medo International Airport and invited us to visit important tourist attractions, like Saint Ann Hill (Cerro Santa Ana), Saman Park (Parque de los Samanes), and the Salty River Waterfront Walk (Malecón del Salado). Guayaquil has further shown itself to be the scene of important events, like the Global Leadership Summit, a very interesting event to motivate us toward the grand vision of guiding others.

Six months after this year’s devastating earthquake, our beloved province of Manabí has not given up, but instead invites us to continue exploring the charming beaches of Manta and Crucita.

By visiting our brothers there, we can show our constant support for them.

In our section on hosts, we highlight the natural beauty of two beautiful sites worth visiting: Nautilus House and the Guamag Ranch. We also visited the province of Pastaza, “Gateway to the Amazon”, which is very valuable for its natural resources and the diversity of indigenous cultures.

Our voyage did not, however, end there, because we crossed the border to visit the beautiful beaches of Tumbes, Peru, where Cherelas Lodge offered us a variety of aquatic activities.

From there, our taste buds took us on a tour of the most delicious gastronomic routes of Guayaquil and Samborondón. Then, after traveling south again, we did the same in the province of El Oro, the Banana Capital of the World.

Guayaquil is a sizeable port city and it is also the capitol of Guayas Province.

Its beauty is reflected not only in its water, but also in its interesting history.

uayaquil, ciudad alegre y majestuosa, goza de un gran exponente comercial. Su hidrografía es tan privilegiada por tener al este, las orillas del Río Guayas y al suroccidente al Estero Salado. Sin embargo, la ciudad Santiago de Guayaquil también está marcada por sus revoluciones y levantamientos que la llevaron a convertirse en una ciudad cosmopolita.

Nos remontaremos a mediados del siglo XVII, época donde la exportación del cacao era la principal fuente económica de muchos agricultores guayaquileños. Alrededor de la ciudad se apreciaban distinguidas edificaciones de madera y un sinfín de candeleros que encantaban a todos sus visitantes.

Pearl of the Pacific

In the mid seventeenth century, the cacao exports, for making chocolate in Europe, were the principal source of income for many farmers in Guayas. The buildings were mostly made of wood and an infinite number of oil lamps charmed the visitors to Guayaquil.

The streets of the city have always been a meeting place for the different regions of Ecuador.

Given the great activity of the port, foreign ships would always navigate to its tranquil waters and anchor at our beloved city.

This is the way it was when most of the foreigners saw the Pearl of the Pacific for the first time and were taken by its charms.

Ciudad de Los Astilleros

Su cautivadora historia empieza por el licenciado Diego Vásquez, servidor de Francisco Pizarro, quien a través de una carta plasmó la necesidad de construir galeras resistentes. Es ahí donde recomiendan al astillero de Guayaquil en la Isla Puná.

Desde ese entonces, las embarcaciones comenzaron a construirse debido a que La Armada del Sur era acosada por piratas y forajidos necesitaban reforzar sus navíos. Poco a poco, los barcos que se construyeron partían para llevar la plata a una variedad de países como Chile, Perú y Colombia perpetrando la proliferación del astillero.

Para los años 1556 y 1557, el arsenal para las construcciones se extendía con exuberantes y fuertes galeones. Es así que en 1730, los galeones y embarcaciones procedentes del astillero de Guayaquil eran superiores a los de América del Norte, América del Sur y sin lugar a dudas los más célebres de Europa.

City of the Shipyards Guayaquil’s captivating history began through the action of Diego Vásquez, an employee of the Spanish Conqueror Francisco Pizarro, who wrote in a letter about the need to build strong ships. So it was decided to build the shipyard of Guayaquil on Puná Island.

From then on, many boats were built, since the Southern Spanish Navy was accosted by pirates and renegades and needed stronger ships. Little by little, the boats that were constructed left carrying riches to countries like Chile, Peru and Colombia, bringing about a bigger and bigger shipyard in Guayaquil.

By 1557, the fleet included swift, elegant and strong galleons. By 1730, the ships from the Guayaquil Shipyards were recognized to be better than those of North America, the rest of South America and, without a doubt, even the most celebrated European boatyards.

Cumbre Global de Liderazgo LA GRANDIOSA VISIÓN DE GUIAR A LOS DEMÁS

T

odos nacemos con varias capacidades, pero tan solo una nos lleva a la cima del éxito, y es la habilidad de liderar. Sin embargo, su significado encierra más que una dirección a otros, ya que es el trabajo continuo de un equipo para levantar un ambiente espiritual, empresarial, familiar, estudiantil u otros.

Ese es el objetivo de la Cumbre Global de Liderazgo, elevar el nivel de liderazgo de aquellos emprendedores o jefes de negocios, para superar esas fugas que se presentan por momentos en la guía del trabajo, y es que si el líder mejora, todos ganan… Como nos explica el Pastor John Jerry Smith, la Cumbre nació hace 20 años, con Bill Hybels, pastor principal de Willow Creek Community Church, quien fue desafiado por John C. Maxwell, experto en liderazgo.

Maxwell pidió a Hybels que hablara sobre el tema en una conferencia en Chicago y él aceptó imaginando que podía expresar aquello de forma correcta. Tomó el desafío y fue así como nació hace dos décadas la Cumbre Global de Liderazgo, sin embargo Guayaquil ha tenido la oportunidad de presenciar este evento en las últimas 10 ediciones.

Global Leadership Summit THE GRAND VISION OF GUIDING OTHERS

W

e are all born with several abilities, but only one takes us to the summit of success, and that is the ability to lead. Nonetheless, leadership means more than just directing others, but rather encompasses the continuous work of a team to create a productive environment for study, family relations, business or spiritual development.

The goal of the Global Leadership Summit is to elevate the level of leadership among entrepreneurs and managers to overcome the deficiencies that arise at difficult moments at work … and, when the leader improves,

everyone wins. Pastor John Jerry Smith explains that this Summit started 20 years ago, when Bill Hybels, senior pastor of Willow Creek Community Church, was challenged by leadership expert, John C. Maxwell.

Maxwell invited Hybels to speak on this subject at a conference in Chicago and Bill accepted, imagining that he would be able to express himself correctly. Bill took on the challenge and that is how the Global Leadership Summit started two decades ago and Guayaquil has been able to witness the last 10 sessions of this event.

¿Cuál es el propósito de la Cumbre Global del Liderazgo?

Elevar el nivel del liderazgo en la iglesia local, recordemos que cuando un líder mejora todos ganan, y la Cumbre Global del Liderazgo es una selección mundial de los mejores líderes.

Soy un pastor misionero y “soy un misionero para Guayaquil”.

Desde hace 30 años, el Señor me llamó para venir a esta ciudad y me he preguntado ¿cómo puedo mejorar el nivel de liderazgo en Guayaquil? Una de las soluciones es invitarlos para que asistan, vean y escuchen a diferentes personas que los van a desafiar en su nivel de liderazgo. ¿Cómo ve usted a los líderes en Guayaquil?

I am a missionary pastor in Guayaquil. Thirty years ago, the Lord called me to come to this city and I have asked myself “How can I improve the level of leadership in Guayaquil?” One way is to invite local citizens to come to our event and listen to the various speakers that will challenge their level of leadership.

What do you think about Guayaquil’s leaders?

I love Guayaquil and I know that there are many things that can be improved, since it is not enough to be a leader. Mussolini, Stalin and Hitler were good leaders, but we need to be honest, sincere and

pero nosotros tenemos que ser líderes honestos, íntegros, sinceros y hacer bien nuestro papel.

Considero que hemos desgastado la palabra “integridad”, hasta el punto que ya no tiene valor. Mientras exista corrupción, engaño, personas tomando dinero que no les pertenece, abusos, maltratos, y los líderes no se comprometan a sus responsabilidades para mejorar o eliminar esto, lamentablemente no vamos a progresar.

La Cumbre Global de Liderazgo ¿está dirigida solo para la iglesia?

Pastora Janice: Originalmente la cumbre fue dirigida para la iglesia, pero los hombres de negocios pueden aprender de la iglesia y la iglesia aprender de los hombres de negocios, este es un valor compartido que se puede mejorar en las dos áreas.

Este evento se realizará el 25 y 26 de noviembre en el Centro Cristiano de Guayaquil, una iglesia que congrega a casi 10 mil personas cada domingo y donde han nacido varios líderes.

Se tratarán varios temas que serán expuestos por aproximadamente ocho oradores, todos expertos en el tema de la dirección de personas en empresas exitosas.

I think we have worn out the word “integrity” to the point where it no longer means anything. As long as corruption, deceit, graft, abuse and mistreatment continue to exist and leaders do not commit to reducing or eliminating this, we unfortunately will not progress.

Is the Global Leadership Summit only for church members?

Janice: Originally, the Summit was directed towards the church, but business people can learn from the church and the church can learn from them, since leadership is a shared value that can be improved upon in both sectors.

This event will take place November 25th and 26th at the Guayaquil Christian Center, a church that brings together almost 10,000 people every Sunday and

where various leaders have gotten started. Diverse topics will be covered by eight speakers, all experts in leading successful businesses.

The lectures will be given via videoconferences and there will be a facilitator for each topic, in order to assimilate and adapt it to our needs. The people attending will be striving to make a positive change in their lives, not only on the job, but also in different aspects of their lives, whether they are Christians or not, since human beings are professional, personal and spiritual leaders.

As the founder, Bill Hybels, says, “It does not matter where you lead, the Global Leadership Summit is a top-level experience designed to help you improve yourself and accept the grand vision and reason for which God has called you to lead.”

Even though he was not a pizza chef in his home country, his love for these tasty items led him to learn how to cook them in the most traditional way.
