It’s a radiance that can’t be bottled up and sold, but we can take steps to cultivate more of it in our daily lives. When I’m tending to all the important parts of myself nurturing my relationships, eating food that makes me feel good, moving my body, and carving out time for play and rest I can show up in the world as my most magnetic self. When we nurture what’s inside, we glow on the outside.
That’s why, as we step into the brighter days of spring, our theme for this issue is GLOW
This season is an invitation to shed what’s been weighing us down and step into a more energized, vibrant version of ourselves Inside these pages, we’re aligning our habits with the fresh energy of spring
We’re treating food as a grounding ritual, approaching our meals with intention and color Our food editor, Suruchi, shares a brilliant meal prep formula that makes it easy and delicious to eat the rainbow.
We’re elevating our daily routines, with simple ideas to bring more beauty and ease to our mornings, expert tips for transforming bathtime into a self-care ritual, and a spring reading list that will nourish your mind as much as a sunsoaked afternoon.
Have you ever had one of those days when you’ve just got it? That je ne sais quoi a magnetic quality that draws smiles from strangers at the coffee shop and makes conversations flow EFFORTLESSLYeffortlessly. You glow from the inside out with a quiet confidence that makes everything around you feel a little more alive
For me, that feeling comes when I’m getting enough sleep, spending time outside (preferably diving into the ocean), and eating food that fuels my energy It’s when I shift my attention to others how I can uplift and brighten someone else’s day rather than focusing solely on my own needs And most of all, it’s when I’m fully present not preoccupied with how I look or what’s next on my to-do list, but truly in the moment, enjoying life and the people I’m with
And of course, our cover story embodies what it means to radiate from the inside out When we met Radhi Devlukia-Shetty last year, we knew she was the perfect choice for this issue her HEALTH
presence is proof that true beauty and good health starts from within
I hope this issue leaves you inspired to embrace the season with a fresh perspective and to step fully into your own glow.
Lots of love,

FOODISMORETHANFUEL—IT’SANOPPORTUNITYFOR NOURISHMENTANDPRESENCE.THISSPRING,LETOURMEALSBE SLOW,INTENTIONAL,ANDDEEPLYSATISFYING.
Like the quiet hum of new beginnings, spring encourages us to soften into renewal. The air carries a calm promise of possibility. Gardens awaken with tender greens. Afternoons stretch into pastel skies. Lingering light spills through the kitchen windows a welcomed companion at the dinner table.
Nature reminds us that growth is best nurtured with patience. A bridge between an introspective winter and a busy summer, spring is a time of transition. It’s a tender nudge to reconnect with ourselves, specifically through the sacred act of eating.
transforming food into a ritual of renewal
Just as spring ushers in the renewal of plant life, we too are invited to rediscover our own rhythms of true nourishment. Think slow, intentional, and mindful. For many of us, eating can be a hurried, thoughtless activity a necessary chore squeezed between responsibilities. But what if we approached food differently? What if each meal became a ritual, an opportunity to savor the present?
Whether shared or savored in solitude, there’s beauty in cultivating a deeper connection to food Fortunately, you don’t need grand gestures to create meaningful food rituals (just a bit of intentionality!) It begins with small, mindful practices, like choosing what’s in season, eating slowly, and tuning into hunger cues
a celebration of abundance
Nothing captures the essence of spring like a table full of fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. Consider hosting an equinox gathering where every dish pays homage to renewal vibrant salads, lightly roasted vegetables, and a bright herbal dressing. A meal shared with loved ones becomes more than sustenance; it’s a celebration of life’s cycles and our place within them.
There’s understated magic in dining alone, especially outdoors Eating in nature encourages us to slow down and tune into our senses: the warmth of the sun, the scent of blooming flowers, the sweetness of early-season cherries
A picnic under blooming branches blank journal in tow turns an ordinary lunch into a romantic moment
Windows open, sunlight streaming in, food prep can be more than a task to complete; it can be a form of meditation. From shelling fresh peas to chopping fragrant herbs, these rhythmic actions ground us in the present Rather than rushing through your weekly meal prep, allow it to be a sensory experience Throw on your favorite cotton tee, turn on an energizing playlist, and let the kitchen become your canvas
While food rituals anchor us in the moment, mindful eating extends beyond special occasions It’s a daily practice one that cultivates a healthier relationship with food and our bodies.
Before you take your first bite, pause. Notice the colors on your plate. Inhale the aromas. Feel the weight of your fork. Engaging your senses primes your body to receive nourishment, enhancing both digestion and enjoyment fully.
In a world of screens and endless to-do lists, eating has shifted into a secondary task. Challenge yourself to eat one meal a day without distractions. No scrolling, no emails just you and your plate You’ll be surprised at how satisfying your meals become when you give them your full attention
Mindful eating means tuning into your body’s cues Are you truly hungry, or eating solely out of habit, stress, or boredom? Learn to recognize the difference Likewise, honor the feeling of satiety rather than rushing to clear your plate. Eating with awareness fosters a deeper trust in your body’s natural wisdom.
As you fill your belly, acknowledge your meal’s journey from soil to farmer to table Whether through a silent reflection or a shared sentiment, gratitude deepens our nourishment and reminds us of the abundance that surrounds us.
Food is more than fuel; it’s a language of care an offering of love and a conduit for presence. This spring, let eating become a ritual of joy. Let it be slow, intentional, and deeply satisfying. Whether through breakfast al fresco, a cup of afternoon tea, or the simple pleasure of slicing fresh strawberries, nourishment is a form of self-love. When we approach food with mindfulness, we do more than feed our bodies; we glow from the inside out.
Nature reminds us that growth is best nurtured with patience.
With spring’s arrival comes a craving for fresh, bright flavors the kind of meals that feel as vibrant and alive as the season itself. And when it comes to eating in a way that fuels our glow, nothing beats a salad filled with peakseason ingredients, bursting with color, and layered with unexpected textures.
But these are not your average bowls of leafy greens. We’re leaning into crisp snap peas with honeyed feta, ruby-red grapefruit paired with creamy avocado, and a caprese that swaps tomatoes for the first sweet strawberries of spring These recipes are proof that salad can be both deeply nourishing and utterly craveworthy

When it comes to a tried-and-true staple in my kitchen, nothing deserves the title more than a grain bowl. With endless customizations and built-in flexibility, it’s the kind of meal that works in any season. As we transition from cozy winter dishes to the fresh flavors of spring, this version has been making a weekly appearance on my table.
My go-to formula for a perfect grain bowl? Start with a grain of choice, add a protein, one or two cooked vegetables, a couple of fresh vegetables, leafy greens, something pickled, something creamy, and a few fun extras Every element plays a role in making the bowl as flavorful and satisfying as possible, so I like to give each component a little extra love
Here’s how I take mine to the next level:
For the rice: While simple cooked rice works just fine, I love adding texture by crisping it up. Drizzle cooked rice with a little oil and either sauté it in a pan or spread it on a sheet tray to bake until golden and slightly crunchy.
For the tofu: The secret to chewy, crispy tofu: Freeze it first Let your tofu freeze solid, then thaw completely before pressing out all the water (this works best if you slice it into thick slabs first) A quick drizzle of oil and a bake in the oven until golden transforms it into the perfect proteinpacked bite
A little prep at the beginning of the week means you’ll have everything ready to throw together a vibrant, nutrient-packed meal in minutes. Trust me this one’s about to be on repeat.

Ra light that comes from within rooted in self-awareness, joy, and a devotion to living intentionally. Whether she’s sharing nourishing recipes in her cookbook, or with her millions of followers on Instagram, or speaking openly about her own journey on her podcast, Radhi embodies a holistic approach to wellness that feels both grounded and inspiring. In our conversation, she opened up about the daily practices that help her glow from the inside out and how we can all bring more presence, gratitude, and joy into our own lives.
Camille Styles: Your plant-based recipes are loved by so many people I'd love to hear how your food philosophy was shaped were there early influences in your life that helped form your approach to food?
Radhi Devlukia: Definitely I was born into a family where food was such a big part of our lives I think I was born with an elevated palate because of my mom she has been an incredible cook for as long as I can remember And not just with the food from our culture; she would also experiment We’d travel, and she’d bring back flavors and recreate them at home. My mom, my grandma, and even my dad have all been amazing cooks. Growing up, we always had homemade meals there was never a question about it. My mom made fresh juices in the morning, packed homemade lunches, and put so much love into food. I was surrounded by that enthusiasm for cooking, which definitely shaped me.
My culture also had a huge influence. I’m so grateful to have been raised in a tradition where spices aren’t just about taste they’re healing. I absorbed that knowledge without even realizing it.
Camille: Both you and your husband, Jay Shetty, speak so much about the power of ritual Do you have any personal rituals together that make your mealtimes feel special?
Radhi: Jay eats to live, while I live to eat we’re quite different in that way! But one thing we share is a gratitude practice. We always do a prayer before we eat, expressing gratitude for the meal. Jay is always appreciative, too he thanks me for cooking, which makes the experience even more meaningful. It’s a beautiful way to connect.
Camille: Shifting gears into wellness, what are your nonnegotiable habits to feel your best?
Radhi: My morning meditation practice is essential. I see such a shift in myself when I don’t do it. That means I need early mornings, which also means prioritizing sleep the night before
I also love abhyanga, the Ayurvedic practice of selfmassage with oil It soothes the entire nervous system it’s not just about putting oil on your body, but allowing it to nourish your nerves and deeply relax you If you massage your feet, it sends a signal of relaxation throughout the body It totally resets the nervous system
Camille: That’s so beautiful. In modern life, we rarely take the time to do that kind of intentional self-care.
Radhi: Exactly! It’s such a grounding practice.
Camille: You and Jay both have such busy careers. How do you support each other’s personal growth while maintaining balance in your marriage?
Radhi: Jay is incredible at this I’ve learned so much from him. He supports me, but he doesn’t do things for me; he encourages me to figure them out myself. That distinction is so important.
We also give each other grace when we’re busy We recognize that interrupting each other in the middle of deep work can be frustrating, so instead of trying to connect in rushed moments, we schedule intentional time together Creating dedicated time has been really valuable for us
Camille: That’s so smart. Okay, big one how do you navigate social media while maintaining your mental wellbeing?
“I’m so grateful to have been raised in a tradition where spices aren’t just about taste they’re healing.”
Radhi: Honestly, I’ve had ups and downs There have been times I wanted to deactivate my account and be done with it But then I get a message from someone saying my content helped them, and I remember why I do it
I also remind myself that knowledge is useless unless it’s shared. If I’ve learned something valuable, it’s my responsibility to pass it on. As for negativity online, I try to respond with compassion. If someone is lashing out, that’s their pain coming through. I was recently talking with a friend, and she said something that stuck with me: Love the hell out of them. Meaning, love them so much that it transforms their pain. That mindset helps me not take things personally.
Camille: That’s so powerful. I resonate a lot with experiencing those ups and downs with my relationship with social media, but I've found that when I can shift the focus away from myself, and focus on what I'm offering, it changes the whole perspective
Radhi: Exactly, you take your ego out of it exactly I also remind myself that if you choose to be seen, you can't choose how people see you And it's a hard pill to swallow, but if you put yourself out there on social media, you are making a conscious decision to be seen So then you control how people might see you, because they're viewing you through their own perspective. You have to be okay with receiving the bad and the good.
“...I'm constantly remembering that everything is temporary and I get to just flow through it. I love that.”
Camille: What’s one simple practice that instantly makes you feel more present?
Radhi: Breathwork The breath connects the mind and body, and when you’re not present, it’s usually because they’re disconnected. So to bring both back into the same room, you use breath to connect them. When I stop and take three deep breaths, it completely calms my mind and brings me back into my present reality. It’s simple but incredibly effective.
Camille: You have such a radiant presence. What’s your personal philosophy for living a joyful and fulfilling life?
Radhi: "This too shall pass." To me, it's this idea that life is supposed to flow. Emotions, thoughts, physical things and objects are supposed to come in and out of your life. So really, my philosophy is non-attachment. I believe in reincarnation, so I understand that this is such a small snippet of the life that my soul has had And so I'm constantly remembering that everything is temporary and I get to just flow through it I love that
Camille: What’s something people may not realize about your daily life behind the scenes?
Radhi: That I actually spend most of my time at home, very happily! Social media can make life look busier than it is, but I have a very structured routine. I wake up at five, meditate, exercise, work from nine to six, cook dinner, read, and go to bed early. Most of my life is very simple, and that structure keeps me grounded.
Camille: What’s next for you? Any big projects or dreams that you're working on?
Radhi: I’m really just enjoying what I’m doing now. I launched my podcast last year, and it's been such a joy. I’m learning so much from my guests. My sparkling tea company, Juni, is growing, and we’re developing new flavors, which is really exciting.
And I’m really focused on creating meaningful content Last year, I was feeling a bit bored from the hamster wheel of creating, creating, creating, and I took a pause at the beginning of 2025 to reasses I realized that I wanted to create things that I actually want to create, not just because I feel like I need to constantly put things out there That shift has been really fulfilling
Camille: It really shows. Thank you so much for this conversation Radhi always so inspired by you!
has a promise. No matter what has come before or what will unfold after, a new day dawns and we have the space to start again. It’s a purposeful time, even if we feel like the day is dictated before it begins by work, kids, or little sleep the previous night we get to choose how we show up, through our morning routines. To value them puts us in good company.
Look to the leaders in any field, whether sports legends or spiritual giants, and you’ll find that the early hours don’t go untapped. Ayurvedic philosophy teaches that the hours of 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. hold the most divine potential. Physically, cortisol spikes when we first wake up, providing a welcome boost of fat-burning energy we can put to good use.
But even if you’re not time-trialing or seeking deeper enlightenment, there are many ways to energize our mornings so we can give our best to those around us And most importantly, ourselves
Curating awareness and appreciation for the present moment is perhaps the greatest gift of any day. Ring a bell, light a candle, and sit for just five minutes to start. Growth goes where intention flows.
Practice deep breathing. Deep, intentional breaths can help calm the nervous system and bring clarity. Try inhaling into your belly, then chest, and hold for 4-5 counts Exhale through your mouth for more counts than you inhaled
Gratitude journal. Keep abundance instead of scarcity top of mind with a reminder of what really matters to you Write down three things you’re grateful for, as simple as the softness of your bed or the time to catch the sun rise
Set an intention for the day. Whether it’s a word, a mantra, a favorite poem, or a simple goal, setting an intention can help guide your energy to keep you focused throughout the day.
Limit screen time. Choose your mindset before the world chooses one for you. Try to avoid looking at your phone for at least 30 minutes after waking. There’s usually nothing happening “out there” that can’t wait until first reclaiming “in here.”
Getting in the habit of regular movement doesn’t have to feel impossible. It can mirror your entry into the day slow, intentional micro-moments that build long-term routines over time. Think of it as a gift you’re giving to your older self: increased flexibility along with some muscle too.
Stretch. A quick full-body stretch in bed or a few cat-cow stretches on a yoga mat can help relieve tension, move lymph, and increase circulation Throw in a quick plank if you can, challenging yourself to 10 seconds longer each day
Go for a walk. Getting outside in the morning, with a breath of fresh air and exposure to natural daylight, can help clear the mind and signal the body that it’s time to start the day Skip the headphones and let yourself enjoy the quiet sounds of a neighborhood waking up.
Try a yoga flow. Sun salutations or a few standing poses bring everything together: lowimpact muscle strengthening, body alignment, and your day’s intention. It’s quite the multitasker.
Dance. Everyone has 2-3 minutes in the morning to play their favorite song and move intuitively. You’ll be surprised at the energy shift.
The ultimate wellness hack is to be mindful in the mundane. Instead of rushing through your skincare routine, take those first few minutes to be intentional with what you put on. Let it be a sensory experience, as well as one that can help you look energized, even if you don’t feel it.
Splash cool water. This wakes up your skin, dissolves impurities that may have been released overnight, and feels instantly refreshing
Use a gentle cleanser. Some need it; others don’t Gauge your skin after the water splash above
Add a vitamin C serum. Widely tolerable by many skin types, vitamin C provides an antioxidant boost that helps brighten skin, nourish the moisture barrier, and prevent fine lines.
Massage in an eye cream. Focus on tapping gentle pressure beneath the eyes and around the orbital bone to stimulate lymph drainage.
Hydrate with a lightweight moisturizer. Even if you have oily skin, hydration is key to keeping your complexion balanced. If you have extra minutes, add in some facial yoga while applying.
Remember SPF. If spending prolonged time in the sun, have sensitive skin, or want to be diligent about protecting your skin from UV exposure, layer on your favorite sunscreen every morning
You know your body best and for many, that includes a nourishing breakfast that fuels for the rest of the day. It doesn’t have to be large or complicated to prepare, but something with a mix of the below can help keep you full with the brainpower to boot.
Protein. Eggs, Greek yogurt, kefir, cottage cheese, smoked salmon, tofu, or protein powder
Healthy fats. Avocado, ghee, olive oil, flaxseed oil, nuts, nut butter, or hemp seeds
Fiber. Raspberries, pears, apples (with skin), sweet potato, cauliflower, barley, or chia seeds
Hydration. Electrolyte-infused water, lemon water, loose-leaf tea, matcha, or coffee*.
Adaptogens. Ashwanganda, cordyceps, tulsi, maca root, eleuthero root, or ginseng.
Remember: The morning is yours to make of it what you will. Even small habits, consistently practiced over time, can create new pathways in the brain for a life that looks and more importantly, feels wildly different in the months to come.

Doa10-minutebraindump. Write everything on your mind tasks, worries, ideas—without filtering. Get it all out. Organizeyourthoughts. Highlight what’s in your control and what you can consciously release Choosethreeprioritiesfortheweek. Select three things that will have the greatest impact on your well-being, productivity, or peace of mind
What’s one thought, worry, or belief I can release today? Reflect on something that has been taking up unnecessary space in your mind and imagine setting it down What would it feel like to let it go?
By clearing mental clutter, you’re making space for what truly deserves your energy
The way you begin and end your day shapes everything in between. A mindful morning sets the tone for clarity and purpose, while an intentional evening routine helps you unwind and reset. Small, consistent habits can create a sense of stability and calm, allowing you to move through your days with more ease.
Chooseoneintentionalmorninghabit.Pick a simple, supportive ritual journaling, stretching, or drinking a full glass of water before coffee.
Createagentlewind-downroutine. Try going screen-free for 30 minutes before bed, practicing gratitude journaling, or reading something light and inspiring.
The information you take in shapes your thoughts, emotions, and mental state. Without intention, it’s easy to absorb negativity, comparison, or stress. By curating what you consume, you can create a digital environment that supports clarity and inspiration
Doacontentaudit.Throughout the day, take note of how different types of content make you feel Awareness is the first step to making a change Muteorunfollowaccountsthatdon’tserve you.If a person, brand, or news outlet consistently adds stress or comparison to your life, give yourself permission to step away.
Seta“screen-freehour.”Designate time to disconnect from screens and engage in something restorative (reading, walking, etc.).
What type of content makes me feel inspired vs. overwhelmed? How can I adjust my digital habits to support more peace and clarity? By becoming intentional with your consumption, you free up mental space for what truly nourishes you.
What small shift could make my mornings/evenings feel more grounding? Consider a habit that feels nourishing rather than like another task. How could this one change impact the flow of your day?
By bookending your days with intention, you create moments of clarity that ripple into everything you do
Physical movement helps us process emotions, reduce stress, and create mental clarity. When you move, you signal to your nervous system that it’s safe to release tension, shifting stagnant energy and clearing mental fog.
Chooseamovementpracticethatfeels goodtoday. This isn’t about intensity it’s about intuition. Whether it’s a walk, gentle stretching, or dancing in your kitchen, pick something that supports your body and mind.
Buildabreathworkpractice. Breathwork, like deep belly breathing or box breathing, can create an instant sense of calm Noticehowmovementshiftsyourmindset. Observe how you feel before and after moving
How do I feel before vs. after moving my body? What emotions or thoughts did I notice shifting?
By making movement a daily ritual, you invite clarity, energy, and ease in both body and mind.
Engaging in something purely for pleasure without the pressure of productivity helps clear mental space and boost your mood Creativity doesn’t have to be an accomplishment; it’s simply a way to reconnect with your inner spark.
Dosomethingpurelyforjoy. Choose an activity drawing, baking, or gardening that isn’t goal-oriented Let go of any pressure to be productive or perfect Makea"happylist." List activities or places that make you feel inspired and energized Let it serve as a reminder of what brings you joy
When was the last time I felt fully present and joyful? How can I welcome more of that into my life, even in small moments?
By reclaiming time for creative, joyful pursuits, you open up space for mental clarity and emotional ease, helping you feel more aligned with your purpose and peace.
Mental clarity isn’t a one-time reset it’s a practice of ongoing intentionality. It’s about regularly returning to the habits, rituals, and mindset shifts that help you feel grounded and present. Today is about reinforcing the progress you've made and setting intentions to carry that clarity forward into your daily life.
Reflectonthepastweek.Take a moment to review your journey. What changes felt most impactful? Which habits supported your clarity? Chooseoneclarity-boostinghabitto continuebeyondthisreset. Whether it’s your morning ritual, movement practice, or digital detox, select one habit that supports your mental clarity and commit to making it a regular part of your routine Writea"mentalclaritymantra."Create an affirmation to repeat when life feels overwhelming or cluttered This mantra will help center you and remind you of the calm, focused energy you’ve cultivated throughout the week
What does mental clarity feel like for me? How can I cultivate it daily, even on the busiest days?
As you continue this journey, these small shifts will become lasting habits an intentional foundation for a life that feels lighter, clearer, and more aligned.

When was the last time you took a bath? For most of us, jumping in the shower is something we treat as a chore, not something we look forward to. But bathing can be something else entirely. If you approach it with intentionality, taking a bath can become an elevated ritual that gives you space to unwind both physically and mentally. Not everyone is into meditating but anyone can run a hot bath and use it as an opportunity to reset, turn off your brain, and nourish yourself.

If you don’t identify as a bath person (or maybe you consider yourself “bath curious”), Shannon Davenport, founder of Esker, is on a mission to get more people into bathing “You don’t know what you’re missing,” she says With a background in trend
trend forecasting, aromatherapy, and natural beauty, Shannon is well-versed in how sensory experiences can promote self-care. After spending years in the hustle and bustle of New York City, she treasured the small moments she had to herself and realized that a bath made all the difference to her mood and wellbeing.
Bathing, she says, is an ancient practice from Japanese onsens to Turkish hammams and Roman bathhouses The act of bathing isn’t just about getting clean, but about creating intentional space for yourself To get the most out of a bathing ritual, it’s not just about running a hot bath and sitting in it It’s about learning the feeling of being still in your body, all while receiving intentional nourishments.
“Immersing your body in warm water for as little as 20 minutes has all of these health benefits,” says Shannon. “You fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer or sleep more solidly. It's good for hair growth. It's good for your brain, for serotonin levels. It promotes circulation. You can actually burn up to 120 calories in the bath from sweating.”
And that’s before you add anything to your bath water or embrace anything else as part of your bath ritual! While I love a good sauna-cold plunge, Shannon reminds us that we don’t have to go to extremes to get the benefits of temperature therapy Just immersing yourself in a hot bath can do the trick
By founding Esker, Shannon sought to create products that enhance and support the art of bathing Below, she provides inspiring tips on creating your own bathing ritual to make it mentally and physically restorative
According to Shannon, a bathing ritual can be as simple or elaborate as you like. As long as you go into it with intentionality, an open mind, and a closed door (no distractions!), you can tailor your bathing ritual to what you need.
With Esker, she provides products and tools that help create structure and ritual for those who want them but they’re not necessary, she says. “I think really nice body care and tools just give you some steps and get you into the zone of: ‘Okay, I'm doing this for myself.’ But all you really need is an intention,” she says “You could also have a lovely bath with just water in it You don't need to have products, but go in the tub with an intention ”
So now you have your intention an affirmation or just a timer set and the resolve to chill out now what? Here’s what Shannon recommends for the most restorative bathing ritual
1. Set the Atmosphere
Your surroundings impact your ability to unwind Dim the lights, light candles, or use soft lighting to create a warm and inviting ambiance. Don’t overthink it. You don’t want to make it so complex you avoid doing it. Make it something to look forward to, like your own relaxing spa.
Shannon’s first foray into wellness was a certification in aromatherapy, which she anchors in its ancient roots. It’s a “time tested way of caring for yourself,” she says. “It’s just another way of working with plants.” Essential oils are a good way to incorporate aromatherapy into your ritual. Lavender promotes relaxation, eucalyptus clears the sinuses and refreshes the senses, and rosemary helps improve circulation and mental clarity
3. Bring a Beverage
This is Shannon’s favorite tip “I always say, bring a beverage tubside preferably water or ice water You could also, if you want to, have tea or even wine bringing something to sip on is really helpful ” Hydration is key And bringing in a drink is another thing to look forward to in the bath
4. Prepare Your Skin
Dry brushing before bathing stimulates circulation and exfoliates dead skin cells, making it an excellent step for improving skin health. A gentle scrub or body oil postbath will lock in moisture.
Elevate your bath routine with nourishing products like body oils, bath salts, or botanical-infused bath milks. These add therapeutic properties to your experience, while also having benefits for your skin.
“Maybe some people don’t like baths because they aren’t used to spending time with themselves,” says Shannon. If you don’t make the time to connect with yourself, your life will feel out of alignment. Take the time in the bath to look within, or do something that’s just for you. Read a book, watch the latest TV show everyone is raving about, scroll on Pinterest, read the Substacks you’ve been saving for later Let yourself sit in the bath for as long as you need, and create a ritual that lets you connect with yourself and be present
Seal moisture with a hydrating body oil or lotion Also consider using a tool to maximize the lymphatic drainage and skin benefits like exfoliation
Bathing might seem indulgent or inconvenient, but by cultivating a bathing ritual, you can use it as a wellness tool that reconnects you with your body while boosting your health Whether you soak in hot water for 20 minutes, or luxuriate in a bath full of oils and essential oils for hours, taking the time to intentionally immerse yourself in warm water grants permission to put yourself first
For those new to bathing as a ritual, start small. Draw a bath, set an intention, and allow yourself to be fully present in the moment. With each bath, you’ll discover new ways to enhance the experience and create a practice that is uniquely yours.
Some things just make you shine a little brighter. Say hello to our favorite products that nourish your body, mind, and spirit. From beauty to wellness and everything in between, these picks will leave you feeling refreshed, vibrant, and effortlessly radiant.

Simple Styling Tips For a Serene, Sun-Drenched Home
I will never forget the year my husband and I lived in a home with minimal natural light. We were in a temporary living situation and the home was situated amidst trees that blocked the sun. The main living areas were almost always cast in shadows, and we always had to be careful of ice as we left the house in the winter No sun on the front door meant the ice took longer to melt so we gingerly walked around frozen patches of concrete well into March
As the year progressed, I questioned why my mood was down more than usual The darkness had taken its toll on my mental health As we eventually searched for new apartments, natural light was the first priority. I thank my lucky stars every
every day that I now live in a home drenched in sunlight.
Our homes should make us happy, and sunshine is known for boosting serotonin and lifting moods. There’s no better feeling than walking into a room with sunlight streaming through the windows, casting soft shadows and illuminating cozy corners A room bathed in light is bright and inviting There’s a reason our beloved pets find the small patches of light to curl up under
Whether you live in a sun-soaked home or are looking for ways to brighten up a dim space, bringing in light can transform your interiors. From sheer curtains to soft palettes and an abundance of plants, here’s how to style a sun-drenched interior.
Sheer European Flax Linen Curtain WEST ELM
A room without curtains can feel unfinished, like something is missing A window with curtains makes a space look more polished, intentional, and cohesive. And of course, curtains dictate how natural light enters a room. Think of curtains as the final layer that ties everything together, like accessories for an outfit.
If you want to let natural light into your space instead of shielding it, sheer curtains filter light softly. Light linen or gauzy cotton panels will create an airy, ethereal feel and the texture will help soften hard surfaces like wood floors and furniture. The right curtains can transform a room from stark and sterile to warm and inviting in an instant.
One of my prized possessions is a fiddle leaf fig I’ve had since 2019. She brings so much beauty to my sunny home office. Fiddle leaf figs are notoriously temperamental, so I’m especially proud of how much she’s grown over the years. They love the sun, and make a perfect addition to a well-lit room
A sun soaked room practically begs for plants. Plants breathe life into a space, add color, and even improve air quality. A room doesn’t feel complete without greenery, especially one with great light. Just be sure that the plants you add to your room love direct sunlight and not be overwhelmed by it If needed, get strategic and place them in a corner where the light is indirect
Statement plants like fiddle leaf figs and olive trees look beautiful in living room corners, and they both love lots of light Pothos and snake plants are heartier and are great for beginners Planters are a chance to add color and texture to a space pick ones that you find beautiful and compliment the room (and the plant!).
D E C O R A T E W I T H P L A N T S
A sunlit home shines even brighter with colors that reflect and enhance natural light. While darker colors absorb the light instead of reflecting it, warm neutrals will make a space feel open and inviting even as the sun moves throughout the day
Sunlit rooms will naturally feel calm, but colors like creams, taupes and beiges will just enhance those feel-good feelings Color also doesn’t have to be entirely off the table muted pastels like blush, sage or light blue will work well while keeping the palette soft. Warm White Boucle Swivel Chair CB2
Entering a room filled with decor and tchotchkes can feel overstuffed and cluttered. There’s no need to pack a sunlit room with decor let nature do the talking A room with natural light will automatically make a room feel open and airy
Stick to a few high quality pieces of decor that bring you joy and keep clutter to a minimum A stylish coffee table book, a candle, framed photos of loved ones or a vase of flowers are perfect. Your plants also count as decor!

Styling mantels can be a fun design challenge, and my favorite way to style them is with a large mirror. Mirrors on a mantel not only make a beautiful focal point, but they can also double the amount of light in a room by reflecting sunlight This will make your space feel even larger than it is, as well as brighter A win-win! Place a mirror opposite or adjacent to a window for optimal brightness
If your space doesn’t have a mantels, or a spot for a large mirror any reflective surface will help bounce the light Opt for mirrored trays, or an acrylic coffee table to keep the space feeling bright and balanced.
Texture is everything, especially in a room full of neutrals, so opt for organic materials like linen or cotton and pair them with woven accents like wicker, cane, or jute. These materials lean into the calm, serene ambience a well-lit room naturally brings. Bulky furniture will feel heavy in an otherwise light and fresh feeling space lighter wood and woven accents are best.

There’s something magical about a home that truly reflects its owner a space that feels deeply personal, rooted in memory, and in harmony with its surroundings. That’s exactly the feeling you get stepping into Lily Riesenfeld’s thoughtfully curated home, featured in Sense of Place, a stunning book by Caitlin Flemming and her mother, Julie Goebel. Together, they’ve built a body of work that celebrates the art of creating spaces infused with meaning As we anticipate Caitlin and Julie’s next book, The Essentials (out this September), step inside a special home that proves: Our surroundings have the power to inspire, comfort, and connect us more deeply to what matters
When you meet Lily Riesenfeld, you can't help but notice that she seems tethered to the earth with mighty roots.
An advocate for environmentally-friendly living, Lily seems deeply comfortable in her surroundings Her 1921 black shingled home with mahogany doors and trim sits in harmony with the surrounding mighty redwood trees, and hiking trails meet the backyard Lily and her family chose this home because it is located near the trails of Mount Tamalpais, with San Francisco Bay inlets to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west.
Lily grew up in Berkeley, California. When she was eight years old, her family bought a ranch in Healdsburg, a short drive from their home.
"Watching my mom and dad develop a vision for the ranch was special," states Lily. Over the years, the family planted several hundred trees, built a ranch home, restored a redwood barn from the 1850s, and eventually planted one hundred acres of French varietal grapes. Her family developed
developed the ranch with the idea for animals, the vineyard, and natural habitats to coexist. Lily's favorite part of going to the ranch is sharing it with people who come to visit
Along with the ranch in Healdsburg where they spent most summers, the family also went to visit various family homes for two weeks every summer in Maine As a child, Maine was somewhere she could be wild and free The furniture on the porch, as well as the porch itself, in the home belonging to her great-grandparents was painted in a celadon green that the family called "Gamby green," after her great-grandmother. Gamby loved the shade so much, she even had a set of Wedgwood china made in the color. Many of the choices Lily has made in her home were inspired by her grandmother's home in Maine, the family home in Berkeley, and the ranch in Healdsburg.
During her early adult years, Lily began her work with a focus on personal wellness and launched her first entrepreneurial endeavor, The Lily Pad, located in Malibu.
systems. She is fundraising for a regeneratively-built Center for Food and Agriculture, which will offer a permanent farmers' market by the Marin Civic Center. "The building we have plans to erect will be drawing down more carbon and energy than it uses."
Lily designed her Larkspur home with guidance from Caitlin Flemming. "Caitlin was a huge inspiration and the reason my home came together in the most synchronistic way possible."
vintage transferware in varying shades of green, along with pieces from her great-grandmother's green Wedgwood.
If there is a heart to this home, it would unquestionably be the kitchen, where homemade tortillas sit wrapped in a linen towel by the stove and slow-simmering pinto beans are ready for anyone who is hungry. It's a place to be nourished, and Lily is ready to welcome those in need of its healing power.

REPRINTED FROM FRENCH AT HEART: RECIPES THAT BRING FRANCE HOME BY MARJORIE TAYLOR AND KENDALL SMITH FRANCHINI WITH JESS THOMSON PHOTOGRAPHY © 2025 BY ANSOM SMART PUBLISHED BY ABRAMS INTRODUCTION BY
Imagine realizing your long-held dream of moving to France, falling in love, and starting a cooking school in a renovated atelier. Then, imagine your life-long support system who has watched your passion take root, your mother, moving abroad to do it with you. You’d find yourself inside the story of French at Heart, the second cookbook from Kendall Smith Franchini and Marjorie Taylor.
Based in Beaune, France, this mother-daughter duo shares with candor how they’ve transplanted their Arizona upbringing to a bucolic existence in Burgundy, all the while creating a business that invites others to share in the experience. Portrayed through its stunning recipes, French at Heart is an homage to what it means to let time have its way. From the slow nurturing of impossible dreams to the relationships we tend to, again and again, there’s something beautiful to be created and savored in the everyday spaces right in front of us.
When we cook and when we eat, even if it’s just a simple meal, we think it’s crucial to find joy in as many moments as possible. Some of the fun is natural and unavoidable; delicious food provides a most basic pleasure, and we love to laugh together around the table. But making space for joy in everyday life tasks not just in the special moments doesn’t just happen It requires intent and a little bit of effort, and usually, a bit of time. At The Cook’s Atelier and in our regular lives at home, we’ve made it a habit to create space for the beautiful things that bring us happiness.
We have been collecting useful dishes and objects we can’t live without for decades, mostly at brocantes and antiques shops We buy things we’re drawn to knowing they fit our general color scheme we buy lots of white and cream ceramics, plenty of French linens, zinc buckets, and copper kitchenware. Over the years, we incorporate the things that we appreciate into our homes Balancing peaches on a stunning white pedestal shows off the beauty of both the produce and the object; using vintage mise en place bowls makes us enjoy even the most boring kitchen tasks. We have a collection of Mary figurines, paintings, and old lithographs that hide in the nooks and crannies of our kitchens. They give us a little frisson of pleasure as we stack clean dishes or take down a platter for a meal Our hope is that every step we take in our kitchens has a positive visual impact on our family and on our guests.
It’s also important to us to use the things we collect. A lionhead-handled porcelain tureen might look pretty on a shelf, but we get more joy from actually
actually filling it with soup. Ditto for the antique butter pats we’ve always collected, which we use for everything from lemon slices to caviar. If cooking is an act of love, then serving the food you make on dishes that make you happy is a sort of visual corollary We tend to remember the thrill of hunting for each thing we serve on, whether we found it at the yearly local brocante or at the Beaune Saturday market. Displaying only the things we really use also streamlines our collection, so our kitchens’ styles feel effortless and clean
We’ve also internalized the French mindset of incorporating natural elements into our meals. At the table inside, this usually means flowers and light. Setting a table with a beautiful bouquet from the market or clippings from our garden feels like an expression of care for the others at the table We use candles and music to create a feeling of intimacy that gives even the simplest family meals importance Of course, when the weather’s nice, we move everything outdoors and into nature.
Every connection with French culture entrenched the concept that meals are a time to focus on sharing good food with other people. As we traveled, we began absorbing the habits of French meals We learned about their distinct rhythm, always starting with the apéro, which is usually a drink and a savory bite (drinks always come with food in France), but also a conscious ending of the work day. It may sound small, but reminding yourself to fully commit to dinner can make a huge difference in how much you enjoy the food and the company around you. Without distractions
distractions like cell phones, conversation flows better, and the meal and the memories it creates last longer.
One of the things we have always loved about France is the coursing of French meals In general, people eat in multiple courses after the apéro, with each dish complementing the next one The goal is enjoying a full meal thoroughly, not racing to the meal’s end. While these days we may have the traditional starter or entrée, such as a soup or salad, plus a main (plat), cheese, and dessert course, on weekends, on weeknights, we often have a simpler meal, keeping the heart of the process intact: After the main course, we always have a bite of cheese, and maybe just a piece of fruit or simple dessert. We take our time, focusing on old-fashioned conversation something the French are very good at, but that you can do anywhere, no matter what you’re eating. The ritual of our mealtimes, no matter how simple they are, is just as important as what’s on the plate
The dinner table has always felt like the richest place in our lives. On weeknights, the kids know it’s their duty to set the table, and for more leisurely meals on the weekends, they each have their roles: Luc does the glassware and plates and helps Lou as she learns to arrange the napkins and silverware Manon usually does flowers, picking posies if they’re available in the garden and arranging them in pretty glass vases on the table. For about half the year, we eat outside on the barn’s terrace, with the warmth of a fire pit on cool evenings. But whether we’re indoors or out, one thing remains the same: For every meal (even breakfast), we set the table, like we did in Phoenix when it was just the two of us Selecting pretty dishware and linens reminds us that the time we spend together always deserves special attention.
We feel beets are underrated. They’re sweet, earthy, beautiful, and incredibly versatile in the kitchen. At home, we often pickle them or roast them as a side dish, serve them as a cold soup, or pile them into a colorful first-course salad like this one Here, we first roast the beets with herbs and olive oil, then we gently peel off the skins and cut them into wedges, and finally dress them lightly with a vinaigrette made with red wine vinegar and a bit of orange zest Bits of Marinated Goat Cheese (Recipe Below), fresh herbs, and lightly toasted walnuts add great contrasting colors and a bit of texture When using a variety of colored beets, be sure to dress the red beets separately so you don’t dye the rest of the beets red.
12 small red, yellow, or other beets (2 pounds/ 910 g total), washed and trimmed
2 fresh bay leaves
6 thyme sprigs
Extra-virgin olive oil, for drizzling
Fleur de sel and freshly ground black pepper

Grated zest of 1 orange
1 round Marinated Goat Cheese (Recipe Below) or 3 ounces (85 g) artisanal goat cheese
