HEALTH, SAFETY, AND SUCCESS PARTNERSHIP

HOUSTON METHODIST HOSPITAL Houston Methodist performed an assessment of the EHS campus, our processes and protocols, and provided recommendations on clinical best practices to promote the safest learning environments and reduce the risk of disease transmission on the EHS campus. A professional team of health experts took a period of 3 weeks to complete this assessment and they have provided EHS with specific guidance regarding the best practices for safely returning to campus and classrooms.

Houston Methodist will provide ongoing recommendations as part of our partnership, along with guidelines for how we prepare for back-to-school activities.

Additionally, Houston Methodist will be engaged in the development of recommendations for: Infectious Disease Control & Prevention Teams Physicians & Professional Guidance Institutional Health Solutions Project Managing S1-S4 Consulting on Related Topics Safely Returning to Campus

Classroom Life: Plans for Health, Safety, & Success The entire campus has been prepared to keep us better connected and socially distant. In classes where occupancy capacities are met, students will rotate into auxiliary learning spaces. Students who have a free period will also work quietly in these remote spaces, which include Scurlock Gym, USC, and other large rooms around campus.

1. We start every day in Advisory. Relationships matter most, so you'll connect here and get important daily updates!

2. Every learning space has hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes. Restrooms have posted capacities, and faucets are 100% automated.

3. The attendance desk, help desk, and other high-traffic areas have plexiglass partitions, and we've added time for passing for the safety and comfort of all.

4. There are signs to direct you to around campus, reminders for wearing masks, and other helpful tips and information!

4 PLANS We have created 4 weekly scenarios that will provide instructional continuity, help us maintain community culture, and ensure that we follow the guidelines set forth by our health consultants, local authorities, and the CDC.

TEACHING AND LEARNING PHILOSOPHY This method of learning and instruction involves self-discipline, maturity, patience, flexibility, and a high level of responsibility.

With the cooperation and focus of all involved, we will have productive and engaging classes, with strong degrees of participation as if we were on campus! Our faculty is excited to give life to your ideas and to help you realize your goals. To understand what is expected of you, here are some guidelines.

STANDING OUT SINCE 1983

Students should check EHS email at the start of the school day.

An email will be posted each morning that will provide the day’s schedule and announcements.

Attendance will be taken at the start of class and during advisory, Chapel, and class meetings. Students should remain available during class, though teachers may not require students to actively participate in a meeting for the entirety of the class period.

Participate in Chapel, advisory, extracurricular, and grade level meetings.

Appropriate clothing should be worn at all times, especially whatever may be visible in video conferencing.

During class, students should be seated in an appropriate workplace.

During class, teachers will check in with students periodically.

Students should remain available for chat or video conferencing and respond as quickly as possible when prompted.

Abide by the EHS Honor Code and Code of Conduct at all times, especially with regard to appropriate computer use and cybersecurity.

At the start of class, sign into Microsoft Teams and join our class “meeting� (video conference) for attendance and receive instructions for class that day.

The teacher may request that your camera be turned on or off.

He/she may ask that you turn your camera on at different points in the class or to share your screen so that we may collaborate.

Your microphone should be muted and remain muted during class, except when you are actively talking (i.e. asking or answering a question).

Throughout class your teacher will periodically check in with you and will be available for direct chat or video conference to ask questions.

CLASS EXPECTATIONS

Stepping away during class: It is best to take care of your needs outside of class time, but if you must step away, please choose an appropriate time to do so and change your availability status.

Create a dedicated workspace, like a desk or the kitchen table. (your bed is meant for sleeping, not for school

).

Ask for help! No question is too small, and we are here for you.

Make a schedule & stick to it! It’s important to keep your routine.

Get dressed. No PJ’s allowed, even on virtual days.

Keep your camera on during class unless instructed to mute it.

Stay hydrated. Have a water bottle in your work space.

Exercise every day. Run, walk, jump rope, dance... keep your energy up! Exercise improves your mood, your performance, your sleep. It relieves stress, and helps your brain develop.

Stay healthy! Social distance, wear a mask, wash your hands, and help everyone by doing your part. (This applies to the weekends, too).

DAILY CHAPEL When we are socially distancing on campus this year, each grade will have a designated day when they will be in the Chapel for the service, and all other grades will be in their advisory classrooms to livestream the service together. One day each week, each advisory will have a “House Church” day, when designated students from the advisory will lead them in their own small-group Chapel experience.
