Congratulations! Following a successful season, it is my pleasure to invite you to continue training with Cambridge United and offer you a place within the Goalkeeper Regional Development Centres for the 2016/2017 season. We believe that you have the potential to progress through our Youth Development Pyramid.

Cambridge United’s Youth Development Programme will give you a professional environment and a platform to help accelerate your development and become the best that you can be.

The Goalkeeper Regional Development Centre now sits above our Community Football Programme and feeds into our Shadow Academy and Academy. Please see the diagram of our Youth Development pyramid below which outlines the structure of our programme:

The Goalkeeper Regional Development Centre Training 4 Regional Development Centres Cambridge United run a total of 4 Goalkeeper Regional Development Centres, all within a 50 mile radius of The Cambs Glass Abbey Stadium. Our regionalised centres give players the chance to attend a state of the art facility that is accessible to them.

30 Training Sessions The Goalkeeper Regional Development Centre Programme delivers 30 training sessions on a week to week basis over the course of the season. The 60 minute training sessions will cover a vast curriculum of Goalkeeping techniques, helping players accelerate their development in pursuit of progress through the Development Pyramid.

Academy Syllabus The Goalkeeper RDC training syllabus mirrors that of our Academy, allowing our players the opportunity to receive top quality Academy style training. The training syllabus will help players develop their technical, physical, social and physiological attributes on the pitch.

Reviews Places are reviewed on a season to season basis. Throughout the season the players will receive updates, feedback and reports on how they are developing with Cambridge United Football Club.

The Goalkeeper Gifted & Talented All players (U6 – U16) that are offered a place within the Goalkeeper RDC have been identified as highly talented individuals and are seen to have fantastic potential to develop as a Goalkeeper.

Current Club Players who train in our Goalkeeper RDCs can continue to participate for their local Saturday/Sunday league teams. Cambridge United encourage players to challenge themselves and compete at the highest level and league possible.

Development Cambridge United not only develop our goalkeepers as players, but as young individuals, helping instil important values helping them become respectful, hardworking and professional. Our programme will give goalkeepers the opportunity to develop new skills and master existing techniques. b

The Opportunity Training Aids The RDCs offer a perfect environment for Goalkeepers to develop and progress. We offer a number of training aids and tasks that players can use and practise outside of their training hours, giving them the best opportunity to develop.

Reviews Players are continually assessed by their coaches and CUFC Shadow/Academy staff and can progress to a higher level at any time in the season. Keepers will receive reports, reviews and feedback throughout the season so they are aware of what they can do to improve and progress through the system.

Reward Top Goalkeeper RDC performers will be given the opportunity to attend additional reward sessions free of charge. The reward sessions may include: reward RDC matches and Shadow Academy matches.

Half Term Players will have the chance to register for matches in school holidays against other professional clubs. Regional Development Centre Goalkeepers will also be offered the opportunity to attend our renowned European Tours which take place in Easter & May half term.

Progression Currently over 75% of our Academy Goalkeepers started their time at Cambridge United within a Goalkeeper Regional Development Centre.

For the Keepers that progress through our Youth Development pyramid from our Goalkeeper RDCs into our Shadow Academy and The Academy, the end result could be a scholarship and professional contract with the Club. For others that reach their U16 season, a Shadow Scholarship / Futsal Scholarship may be offered to them (more information at www.cambridge-united.co.uk)

The Coaches The Goalkeeper Regional Development Centre Programme is led and coached by the Lead Goalkeeper Youth Development Coach, Ben Watson. Ben currently hold his FA Level 2 Outfield & Goalkeeper qualification as well as his Youth Module 1 award and is DBS checked. Ben is currently working toward his UEFA B license and FA Youth Module Awards 2&3.

What’s New In 2016-17?

We have lots of new exciting additions to the Goalkeeper Regional Development Centre programme in 2016-17.

Kit 2016-17 brings a new kit and an exciting new kit sponsor, Incorporated London, Inc. You may have previously seen the Inc. logo on the first team tracksuit, however the branding and marketing company have also decided to support the future U’s and the Regional Development Centres.

Individual Learning Objectives To ensure our Development Centre Programme caters for all our Goalkeepers as individuals, we will be rolling out Individual Learning Objectives to our Keeper, just like we do in our Academy. These learning objectives will help give you specific focus to improve both inside and outside of Cambridge’s training programme. More information will be sent out to registered players in July.

New Syllabus A new Academy syllabus will be rolled out in our Goalkeeper RDCs. Sessions will become even more advanced to help further players learning and make progressions even faster.

One, Full Time Youth Development Coach All Goalkeeper RDC sessions will be led by Lead Goalkeeper Youth Development Coach, Ben Watson. This will enable Ben to have a fantastic relationship with all of our Goalkeepers.

Additional Training Aids The Goalkeeper RDCs will offer home challenges and tasks to give our players even more resources to aid their development. Cambridge United RDC tests will give players a fantastic opportunity to assess their performances and measure their successes.

Weekly Videos 2016-17 brings exciting weekly videos featuring new skills, tough challenges and CUFC footage. This will allow players, parents and coaches to interact and engage with one another and Cambridge United.

The Venues We have a total of 4 RDC training venues to make it as easy as possible for Goalkeepers and parents to attend a local venue to them. Please note that certain venues do not cater for all age groups. Goalkeepers will be grouped age appropriately dependant on age of goalkeepers in each session.
