From the Headmaster
Thank you to all staff, parents and students who are helping us to keep everyone safe at this time and to reduce the risk of illness in our School. We are being particularly cautious with students displaying symptoms of cold or flu, and have sent a number of students home this week. Fortunately, none of these cases have proven to be COVID-19. We are offering testing for many of our staff again next week, and this should help to give us all some peace of mind as we head into the holiday break. Recent increases of cases across Victoria remind us all that we are not through this pandemic yet. More positively, restrictions have now been eased for sport for students under the age of 18 and, all things being equal, our mini Sport season at the start of next Term is all set to go with other AGSV Schools. This is particularly pleasing for our Year 12 students, who will have the chance to represent their School in Winter Sport in their final year. Our production of Urinetown (great musical with a terrible name!) is also looking like it will be able to be performed in mid-September (with as large an audience as we can have at that time). Music rehearsals are also set to resume early in Term 3 with a view to having some performances later in the year. Bit by bit we are getting back to the full life of the School.
2020 VCE Results We have now received notification from VCAA that the Year 12 results this year will be released at 7.00am on Wednesday 30 December. This is in keeping with our Government’s promise to release the results before the end of the year, but it remains unclear how the Change of Preference and submission of final course selections will operate. We will keep you informed as we receive more information.
Camberwell Grammar DEEDs App and Website From the beginning of Term 3, our new DEEDs app and website with its live news stream, will replace the Weekly Bulletin. The app will target news to each group of parents and will become the way we will communicate with parents, to complete forms and to share information. If you have not already done so, please download this free app – search for Camberwell Grammar DEEDs – in the App Store or on Google Play. Our School IT systems will be unavailable later this afternoon, so that we can install a new firewall system. The systems will be down between 5.00pm and 11.00pm. Our Website, intranet and the DEEDS system will not be accessible during this time, but the new system will provide us with better security and management of network traffic. Confirmation of this shut down will be sent to all parents by SMS this afternoon (partly to test out the capabilities of DEEDs).
Year 12 – Flu Injections Iris Family Medicine have generously offered to administer flu injections for our Year 12 students free of charge. The consultation is bulk billed, and the vaccine cost borne by the Medical practice. The injections will take place at School next Thursday 25 June at 12.30pm. If you are interested in having your son vaccinated for the flu, please click here for a Registration Form or for further information please contact our Coordinator of School Health Services/Student Health Coordinator, Mrs Rhonda Nicholson at shc@cgs.vic.edu.au for a Registration Form.

Each year the Australian Defence Force (ADF) seeks nominations for the Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork Awards, an initiative of the Australian Government to foster the development of youth in terms of behaviours and attributes considered essential in Australia’s future leaders. Participation in the awards program is open to all Australian schools with students enrolled in Year 10 and/or Year 12. To be successful in these awards, students must demonstrate leadership and teamwork within the school or the broader community whilst also displaying strong values such as respect for others, striving for their best and “mateship”. Further information about the program can be found at www.adflongtanawards.gov.au/portal or by contacting our Youth Leadership Teamwork Awards Co-ordinator, Mr David Rayner at djr@cgs.vic.edu.au.
