Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Senior School House Music Competition
There is much talk and concern about the spreading of Coronavirus and we are monitoring this carefully. The best and most up to date source of information about the virus and how we can best prevent its spread can be found at The Victorian Government’s DHHS site: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/victorian-public-coronavirus-disease-covid-19 and at the Commonwealth Government’s Department of Health site: https://www.health.gov.au/news/health-alerts/novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov-health-alert. We have placed hand sanitising lotion throughout the School and are encouraging our students to practice good hygiene and hand-washing practices, which is the best way to protect against all viruses. I am very grateful to all students and their families who observed a period of self-quarantine at the beginning of the year. With the Easter vacation approaching, I encourage all families who may be travelling through that period to follow Government advice and to be aware that further periods of quarantine may be required on your return to Australia. I believe that many travel insurance companies are also limiting their liability with regards to the virus, so it would be prudent to check with them about possible exposure. The Australian Government is currently recommending against travelling to the following countries who are at a higher risk of COVID-19: Mainland China, Iran, Italy and South Korea. They have also announced that coronavirus travel restrictions have been extended to people travelling to Australia from Iran and South Korea. If a student intends travelling through these countries during the coming Term holidays, then upon returning to Australia parents must ensure that their sons self-isolate for 14 days after leaving these countries before returning to School. I do thank and appreciate your support and understanding in helping to ensure as much as possible, that everyone in our community remains safe and healthy until this outbreak is contained.

Senior School House Music Competition Congratulations once again to all Houses for their performances last week. The House Music competition is an amazing event, and the standard of the music on the night was very high. Each House featured at least once in each of the top three performances over each of the three items – demonstrating how close the competition was. Most impressive is the participation and commitment of all students, who had worked hard over a four week period to present their songs. Their passion and enthusiasm was manifest. I also find it quite moving, when the entire School, united again after intense competition, join together to sing the Anthem from Chess. Congratulations to all House leaders, conductors, arrangers and musicians who prepared and performed. It was a memorable evening. I was pleased to present the Captain of Steven, Finnegan Weston the Shield at yesterday’s Assembly.
Haircuts High standards of dress and appearance are part of our overall commitment to excellence in everything we do, and I do thank all parents for the strong support they give to the school in ensuring that our student’s appearance is neat, tidy and appropriate at all times. A number of our students at present, however, need to take some action in this regard, and some of you may be contacted to seek your assistance in encouraging your sons to have an appropriate haircut. I am grateful for your support in helping us to ensure our students are looking their best at all times.
AGSV Table Tennis Premiership Cup The Captain of Table Tennis, Nathan Shi, was proud to present the AGSV Table Tennis Premiership Cup to the School at our Assembly on Thursday. Nathan has been in the team since he was in Year 7 and has not lost a rubber in all of that time – an extraordinary achievement! Congratulations to the team on an outstanding season. Nathan also won the School Table Tennis Championship last week, and I was pleased to present him with the Shield at the Assembly.
