CAMBA Legal Services’ team of experienced and caring lawyers provide free, expert legal counsel and representation to eligible low-income and working poor residents of Brooklyn and Staten Island.

CAMBA provides legal services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking. The program provides integrated legal services, including:

CAMBA provides immigration counseling, application assistance and representation to individuals and families in need of the following services: QQ Citizenship/naturalization QQ Family-based petitions QQ Asylum applications QQ Battered-spouse petitions/U Visas QQ Other immigration matters

We help clients who are facing a wide range of legal issues, including: QQ Consumer Matters QQ Domestic Violence QQ Foreclosure/Mortgage Delinquency QQ Housing Issues QQ Immigration matters In addition to legal services, CAMBA offers more than 150 different programs, enabling us to provide holistic services to help our clients and their families overcome both short- and long-term barriers to self-sufficiency.

Established in 1993, CAMBA Legal Services is the legal arm of CAMBA.

Consumer Law CAMBA, in collaboration with its partner agencies in the Legal Services for the Working Poor Coalition, provides legal assistance to existing clients in consumer matters, including: QQ Resolution of consumer debt issues QQ Representation in debt collection proceedings QQ Assistance with consumer fraud issues.

QQ Consumer, housing and immigration law (including identity theft) ELIGIBILITY: Brooklyn resident and must meet income guidelines

Foreclosure Prevention CAMBA provides foreclosure prevention/ mortgage counseling to homeowners in owner-occupied homes.

In addition, CAMBA provides legal advice, advocacy and representation to homeowners in owner-occupied one- to four-family properties involved in a foreclosure action.

ELIGIBILITY: Brooklyn homeowner at risk of foreclosure

Housing CAMBA provides representation in Housing Court and related proceedings, as well as legal advice and counsel to families who are at risk of eviction.

The Housing Unit represents clients in the following types of cases: QQ Non-payment/Holdover cases QQ HP actions (repairs) QQ Administrative hearings (NYCHA, etc.)

QQ DHCR overcharge complaints, etc.

Special Initiatives Legal Services for the Working Poor Since 2004, CAMBA has provided no-cost legal services in housing, immigration and consumer matters to working poor individuals and families (defined as people living below the self-sufficiency standard for Brooklyn).

CAMBA is one of the only programs in New York City that does not use the poverty standard to determine eligibility for services, which makes services available to a wider range of people.

Welfare and NYCHA Fair Hearings CAMBA provides representation for individuals and families in both welfare and NYCHA fair hearings when housing stability is at risk. Issues include: QQ Improper termination of benefit or subsidy QQ Improper sanctions QQ Chronic rent delinquency
