I’m Cameron, I’m a BA Product Design student at Nottingham Trent University.

Art and design has always been a part of my life, I enjoy being creative and visually representing my ideas.

I can then bring these illustrations to life through constructing prototypes.

A key part of my working is having a clear design process which flows throughout.

My Art. I have always loved art from a young age, this started in school but I have carried this in my spare time where I draw and paint, my most recent piece is a representation of a snowy owl in memory of my late grandad.

I also enjoy going to art galleries, my favourite artist is Anselm Kiefer.

Project 1: Narrate POM is a compact storage bag for valuable items when travelling. The inspiration came from my first hand experience of how difficult it can be to keep your valuable items safe. I wanted this design to have the comfort of a pillow, because I felt that would be the best way to keep my valuable safe when sleeping. My project was driven by feedback from fellow travellers who express concern about safety. Planning the trip was a big part of the experience, I wanted everything to be structured and well thought out. I wanted it to be functional piece that reflected my experience.

DIRECTION

The best way to describe my personality is creative, driven and motivated to go and experience everything I can. There have been two big things I’ve taken from my childhood, the first is travelling and the second is memories of being in my Uncles art studio.

Travelling has been a big part of my life, going on holiday with my family was just the start of my journey. I have carried this interest on by going backpacking alone around Europe last summer, this experience was the inspiration for this design project.

MODEL MAKING Model making during this project was a key part of this project, from testing my product anc also creating smaller scaler models to demonstrate the aesthetics of the travel bag.

I developed a new skill of sewing to create a small pillow which would represent the pouch. I then experimented with various strap combination.

INNOVATING Looking at various straps and shapes of pouch was something I enjoyed doing when making the models.

It allowed me to show my ideas in a more phyical way. It shows my ideas in a clear fashion with good scale from the straps and leather pouch.

I was designing for a young family who lived in the Barbican estate which is know for its unique style.

Project 2:

BLOX To design a functional yet decrative homeware proudct from sheet metal.

The product must suit the lifestyle of the persona yet also provide a unique design aethetic which matches the enviroment.

U The focus of the project was to get teh user to think more about how they use their living space. With an adaptable piece of furniture, that can fit into any space.

I looked into De stijl and Memphis style as it was evident in their home. I looked into bright colours to match this.

IDEATION Experimenting with the shape and ergonomics was essential so the table maximises space efficiency & style through different shapes.

The simplest designs were sometimes the best when it came to style.

U Model making was my second process a clear visualisation of the design with scale involved. Both these ways of designing help to create a clearer product.

Sketching was the first part of my process to visualising a design. It is my favourite part of the process and enjoy experimenting with different shapes, to advance my designs.

This drawing shows the Blox to scale against a sofa, as this piece of furniture can be put into different configurations. This design is simple so it can suit any type of room.

These are digital drawings showing the simple structure with the natural finish on the outside and the powder coated inside coloured finish. This also shows the piece of furniture in use with books being stored in the centre piece.

The black and white close up drawings are showing the joints and small flaps which hold the sheet metal together.

BLOX

I was designing for a single young professional who lived in Central London with a busy lifestyle, and looking for more efficient ways of keeping her dog healthy.

Project 3:

Brand Communication was a key process showing the Tails.com values as a company.

Tails are all about high quality dog food with a unique recipe for very individual customer.

The product must suit the lifestyle of the persona yet also provide a unique design aethetic which matches Tails.

The focus of the project was to get the user to think more about how she looks after her dog. With an wearable health product for her dog which links with her own smart devices.

I looked into how Tails.com communicate their brand which allowed me to create a product which represents the values and visuals of the brand.

IDEATION Primary Research and Model making are two key parts of the design process which influenced my design for this project. This gave me a lot of information to create a better user experience.

Group Project

Project 4 x This was a Group project with a team of 5 people, working closely with Matter a design consultancy. This project was all about the future of covid and products which help with this tough time during the pandemic.

DIRECTION The Team_

The direction our group took was for large public gatherings, with the main focus on how to enhance the cinematic experiance during covid, in a safe way. Looking at new ways of redesigning the cinema and thinking at how it can be made safer while having a more immercive experience.

Model making was a large part of our development process and we started by using simple basic models to demonstrate shape and scale. Cardboard is an efficient and most readily available during Covid lockdown.

Using models in a group project was a great way of communicating a persons designs in a 3D form, which can sometimes be alot clearer then skeches.

The basic shape quickly developed into a seat with features which will both enhance the cinematic experience and safety features which will minimise people from spreading corona virus. Using phyical models helps with testing features such as screens and headrests.
