MY

Animal portraits has been an on going passion of mine for a while, starting in 2020 with a shared love of birds with my late Granddad. This grew into a larger collection of animals with commission pieces and spontaneous ideas that turned into happy accidents.

They are drawn freehand in Procreate on my iPad.

Context & Research

Design Brief

Life can be stressful. More and more adults are turning to playing with childhood toys as a way to de-stress and escape screens. These activities are a way to improve cognitive skills and allows the practice of mindfulness.

I am looking to design a piece of furniture that will improve the user ability to complete their chosen activity of play, while effectively storing these activities.

Key Research

– Storage Solution for ‘Kidults’ to store games and their hobbies.

– A growing adult toy market with companies like Lego and Build a Bear.

– From Primary research it was clear storage was a clear issue with people who took part in these activities like painting by numbers and knitting.

– A storage solution that can fit seamlessly into an adults home and moved around the house but also sat at to complete activities on the top work surfaces.

Minor Project

Context & Research

Design Brief

To design a ambient light which can help the user with relaxing activities such as reading. I will look to create a calming and cosy environment.

Key Research

• To design a functional lighting piece for the home, located in a living area. It should give out an ambient light creating a natural glow.

• The light should be made using natural materials that can fit into the users interior design style.

• I am looking to create a nostalgic feel to this light which hints at design styles from the past. I have taken great influence from Isamu Noguchi, with his calming design style.

• My target user is someone in there 30’s, they’re looking for a lighting piece which will suit the current interior design market.
